The Fast and Furious craze...

RICER MADNESS! So me and my from head to our local mall to see fast and furious. When we arrive, we see HUNDREDS of ricers. One stuck out from the crowd, it was an eclipse that was decked out just like the one from The Fast and Furious, same paint job and everything. Ok, so we walk into the mall after checking out some cars, and come to find out the damn movie is SOLD OUT. Alright, so we walk around the mall some, and everywhere you look are rice-boys. HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF THEM. I am sure you people think that I am exaggerating, but I am so not. At least a hundred cars out in the parking lot, under car lighting glaring off the blacktop from every other car. A few cars, like the eclipse, IMO were truly nice. I was talking to my dad, and he said that the every cop in the area will be patrolling tonight, because I can gaurantee there will be street races everywhere after the final showing of The Fast and the Furious gets out. Maybe I will go for a little latenight ride around midnight...

Is this happening everywhere? Or just around me

Noone is immitating anything. Street racing has been popular in the underground scene forever. And yes, it does go on everywhere. It has just never been put on the big screen until now...

I am not a ricer, but I want too see this movie, and am going to once it isn't sold out...

Why? Because I like fast cars, and there is no other adrenaline booster like street racing.

My friend has another friend who owns the local Paramount cinema, so he saw the movie yesterday with the volume higher than usual... he said it was unbelivable... now I want to kill myself because I went to the prom party instead yesterday (I didn't knew he was going to watch the movie... and for free)

I doubt it can come anywhere close to pulling in $80million in a single weekend. I bet it does less than Boob Raider.

Sold out means jack. Shrek still sells out during the day in my area(DFW) and its been out for four or so weeks. I bet it gets less than $30million. Its not a movie everyone will go see, its marketed to a small market, it might have a $100million run, which wont be bad for a very small budget film. But it won't pull in Mummy Return or Shrek numbers. The only movie that stands a chance to break any type of opening weekend record is AI. AI will probably pull in numbers similar to the Mummy Returns opening weeked(which was around $75million for Fri-Sun), if not more.

Dreamworks has stolen the summer box office. Its going to have 2

lol all the ricers will be out in full force tonight in California. Anyone live by the Puente Hills mall? every weekend is Ricer weekend there at the AMC 20 ...go figure though its an asian community

personally i'd prefer to spend my hard earned money on cooler stuff like computer parts in the FS/FT forum

SJ, you are underestimating the amount of people that want to see this movie. Every person I know outside of these forums, wants to see this movie. And that is not region specific. This movie defines what todays culture is all about. And that is not stereotyping, because it is true. The cars in this movie are not ricers, they are professionally modified race cars. And by definition, NOT ricers...

AND MARK MY WORDS, THIS WILL BE A NEW RECORD IN THE BOX OFFICE

to the common person, people who don't really know what the movie is about or its origins, it looks like &quot;Pinocchio 2000&quot; (that's what hit me the first time i saw the trailers that don't tell you crap about the movie)

They ARE by definition ricers because they are japanese imports.

If you knew the etiology of the word you would understand that. It comes from Harley riders' dispariging remarks about Japanese bikes burning rice for fuel. ANYTHING japanese is rice.

You're overestimating. The Mummy Returns, and Shrek both sold out all showings on their opening weekend at the movie theater I go to. And as I said, Shrek still sells out. Box office numbers for today should be out in a few hours, unless it pulls in around $30-40million theres no chance it will come close to any box office record.

About AI. Everyone thats seen screenings of it(thats has commented most are under NDAs) have said its one of the best, if not the best Spielberg movie to date. It will do well, atleast better than Pearl Harbor, and Pearl Harbor will ends its run at around $190million. Shrek will end its run around $250million putting all Disney animated movies to shame.

If I remember correctly, Titanic is in the top list, if not the #1 for sales.

Now, take a look at the amount of people:
Titanic: Females, especially under 21, generally accompanied by a boyfriend who wants to get some.
Fast and the Furious: Ricers of America.

Ricers are a big group, but they don't make up a large majority of the population.

Anyway, I just got back from two theatres. Both were sold out, and my friend while watching his show, the reel somehow got messed up so he didn't get to finish it.

By the way, at one of the theatres, there was an accident, seems like a domestic 'ricer wannabe' with an old Mustang, 60's?, tried to pull a stunt. The car was wrecked... was on a flatbed when I pulled up next to it.

Hehehe, weird thing, I also saw a Rolls Royce pulling out of the parking lot. LOL, it's so weird thinking people who own a Rolls Royce would take it to the theatres.
