<< << Oh no say it isn't true.Look at the bright side though,I'm sure a few will be killed trying to imitate the movie. >>
Noone is immitating anything. Street racing has been popular in the underground scene forever. And yes, it does go on everywhere. It has just never been put on the big screen until now... >>
I have to agree with Beast. In Calgary street racing is so popular they built a racing arena. There's a 2.5 mile road course, a 1 mile oval and a drag strip with proper timing lights and what not. Late at night you can go out there and just let it all rip.
I'm sure it doesn't stop all the street racing on the regular streets, but street racing is popular enough that the city built this facility.
All sorts of crazy bets go on there. I'm not sure you are "allowed" to bet on the races, but people do.
Street racing has been around as long as cars have. This movie may produce a bunch of stupid posers, just like the big "I'm-a-skater" crap, and anything else. But there always have been real street racers, and there always will be.
As for the big ricer thing....I'm not sure how you define ricer...I think that traditionally it meant any japanese import. But usually today people use it when dumb kids put stickers and big exhaust tips on their Civics, so they "look fast" but don't actually have any performance mods.
From what I can tell there are some nice cars in this show with professional mods. Japanese or not, I don't consider those ricers.
Besides there's a big ass green mopar in the movie to. By no possible defenition is that a ricer. That's about as far from a ricer as you can possibly be.
