hmm...

Ricer it is.. I went and saw that movie yesterday.. and holy crap... (I live in the CA Bay Area..) I mean.. normally AMC20 usually have it's share of ricers no matter what.. but today I saw like 4-5 times as many! Like some of them just wanna make me laugh..

I drive a lightly modified Jetta VR6.. so that movie sorta connect to me w/ that Jetta in the movie... my friend is a writer for streetracing.org, and yesterday was his 3rd time seeing it. LOL

I have my share or ricer friends.. the above mentioned friend who write for streetracing.org drives a Turboed vtec Prelude.. and no his car is not all show and no go... believe me it's fast and can kick my VR6 anyday.

I like the movie.. although it reinforced a lot of the sterotype of street racers that are not exactly true.

It will definatley fuel more street racing. May they all learn their lesson the legal way and not teh accident way. Luckily most of 'em don't go all that fast to start with

Also, about Titanic, yes it is number one (at $600 million) with Star Wars in second with $460 million. But that $460 million is with the 1977 dollar. Convert that to the 1997 dollar and it would probably be well over a billion

Really you have to keep that in mind with any older movie.

Does that figure include the re-release in 96?

Heh wonder if they'll have tons of ricers at Crossgates Mall today.
As for Ricers... I have nothing against the ones that do something with their engine.
A tricked out 100hp honda civic does nothing for me. Now a tricked out 300hp Acura Integra.... *drool*

I have no clue. I just took the numbers from the list at Yahoo, and it doesn't specify.

I did some searching, and I think it does include the re-release. The special edition grossed $138 million, leaving the original release doing rougly 330 million. I put that through an inflation calculator and it comes out to $900 million.

<< << Oh no say it isn't true.Look at the bright side though,I'm sure a few will be killed trying to imitate the movie. >>

Noone is immitating anything. Street racing has been popular in the underground scene forever. And yes, it does go on everywhere. It has just never been put on the big screen until now...
>>

I have to agree with Beast. In Calgary street racing is so popular they built a racing arena. There's a 2.5 mile road course, a 1 mile oval and a drag strip with proper timing lights and what not. Late at night you can go out there and just let it all rip.

I'm sure it doesn't stop all the street racing on the regular streets, but street racing is popular enough that the city built this facility.

All sorts of crazy bets go on there. I'm not sure you are "allowed" to bet on the races, but people do.

Street racing has been around as long as cars have. This movie may produce a bunch of stupid posers, just like the big "I'm-a-skater" crap, and anything else. But there always have been real street racers, and there always will be.

As for the big ricer thing....I'm not sure how you define ricer...I think that traditionally it meant any japanese import. But usually today people use it when dumb kids put stickers and big exhaust tips on their Civics, so they "look fast" but don't actually have any performance mods.

From what I can tell there are some nice cars in this show with professional mods. Japanese or not, I don't consider those ricers.

Besides there's a big ass green mopar in the movie to. By no possible defenition is that a ricer. That's about as far from a ricer as you can possibly be.

I wanted to see this movie so badly last night, but I got off work like 10 minutes after the late show, so I didn't go.

I personally LOVE to race. However, I do so at a track, where there are rules and regulations. Street racing CAN be very dangerous. A lot of people around my age (17), think they're hot sh!t and just drag race on the street. Anyone can drive fast in a straight line. Try going thru a slalom course, or something like that.

It was pretty unreal. I think the Supra count ended at 35 but, maybe it was more. Most of them were modified as well.

And yeah, ricer's are people who pimp out their imports to impress their friends and to fit an image. I pimp out my car to both improve its performance, and it truly is a hobby of mine.

So, you can call me a ricer if you want, however, I have different motives for "ricing it up" than most people. And, I'm not asian.

yup i was at AMC mercado last nite also. ricers galore. *rolls her eyes*

when we drove up there were two lines outside. one of all young guys. i knew it was the fast and the furious line. that movie, when i got there at 730pm, was sold out until 115 am. i was like "crap"

my friend and i, because we were bored and the parking lot was so crowded we couldn't leave yet anyways, we started counting the riced out cars.

<< The Block at Orange >>

--love it; should be moving back there this year.

Anyway, a buddy went out trolling for races last night, but apparently everybody was at the theater watching this movie...

The Fast And the Furious is going to do better than most anaylsts expected but, its going to end up with 30-40million this week, a far cry from breaking any record. $30-40million would be a good pull for a move that cost $30million to make. If it continues to do well Sunday it will do end up on the upper end of the $40million. Needs to get all the money it can because it will miss the top 10 in two weeks.

oh the days of street racing in South Miami,
How I loved "smoking" the punk with the " Greddy" stickers all over his eclipse with my Paxton supercharged Mustang GT. Although there have been a couple of twin turbos supras and rx-7's that smoked me. it was fun, but I grew up, and don't hang out on the streets anymore.

Dr. 2 8.0

Looks like at least $55 mill

Just saw the movie.

WOW

I was impressed. I wasn't bored with it at all. Very worth my 8 bucks.

Things I found interesting about the riced out cars. The people. Just take notice of the people. Tt didn't matter what race, color, or sex. They all had a common interest. I found that very cool.

Yep, I went to see it, though I was disappointed in the chicks department! Where the friggin are they?!! And Ja Rule in an Integra? That's stretching it. I doubt blacks are into the import scene??

All I can say is: ahhhh yeah..

I didn't hate it but I didn't love it

The part where Vin said something like:

"Yeah, I did a background check on you. YOu can find out anything on the net."

*roll eyes

that was pathetic script.

$48million tops. Last week Boob Raider pulled in $17.7million(on Friday) on over 3000 screens it ended up raking in a hair over $48million. The Fast and the Furious will be around $42-44million if its box office takings are strong today.

It will pull in a tidy profit as it took $30million to make, but it might barely break $100million, it has a 50/50 chance to. You have to remember most movies see atleast a 50%(sometimes up to 75%) drop in ticket sales the following week, as new movies come out. So if it pull out $44million it will end up pulling around $20million next weekend and the week after that will be shoved out of the top ten. The movie will have no staying power when newer movies come out over the next 11 days(Next Friday and 4th of July)...
