Do you want that annoying alarm on your TV going off, just to have them say that there's a new security flaw in Software X and people are trying to exploit it?

It is clear to me this is nothing more than government joining forces with corporations. You think this is benign, but I see this growing government enforcing its control further in the private sector in the unlikely event of something disastrous.

If the shit hits the fan, and the gov't tries to force people / companies to give them information, I don't think membership in this is going to matter.

Less important messages could be distributed by local TV or various news agencies. There is no need for more government backing or created entities. Too much government. Period. The same thing can be done by using the existing laws or agencies.

As for protecting your property I agree, but its support only for "businesses", not for common folk.

As someone who knows just a little about the telecomm we all take for granted, it's both shocking and infuriating to see the armchair quarterbacks involved...

Hypothetical:

The government creates an agency whose job is to help prepare the country's infrastructure in case of nuclear attack, invasion, whatever. This agency simply organizes the private companies and tells them what each one is responsible for depending on the location and nature of the disaster.

You have a problem with that? In the event of a catastrophe, I'd like SOMEONE to have done some planning on how we should recover and, honestly, who else is going to do it other than the government?
