....and that bit about you being just slightly smarter than a middle-of-the-bell-curve bowl of bran flakes.

One day your little world is going to come crashing down.

Because one day, your mom is going to tell you to get a job.

Yes, I think our greed holds society back.

I never said it was easy.

You know most major advances happen in university settings, yes?
The researchers don't take funding and pocket it, asking for more and only producing minimal work.

And most of the vaccines and cures you dream of, like we all do, will reap significant rewards for whichever company can get them to market. They don't care if they destroy a market for an unrelated company that peddles the small OTC "make it slightly less worse" meds - if they can strike into the market and make hundreds of millions, they'd do so in a heartbeat. But they can't, not until they actually have a product to produce, which takes figuring out what to actually put into said product.

In short, as was stated on numerous occasions in this thread: you are willfully ignorant, delusional, and paranoid. You see conspiracy where none exists. Sorry, it's just not there.

The easiest and most likely conclusion tends to be reality: we simply haven't figured out nearly enough to get these things done.

Are there certain conspiracy-like issues that we need to be mindful of, to hold a healthy skepticism? Sure. But this is not the case here.

Well spoken.

Thanks, you clued me into a typo of sorts.

And I imagine you think that, as opposed to what I said, that said researchers actually DO just that.
But it doesn't happen, it just can't. Not in the university setting. Maybe once a decade you hear of one department head misallocating grant funds or whatever, but it's rare enough to say it just doesn't happen.
The researchers in the university settings, if they are even paid a true salary (as opposed to it acting essentially like a scholarship with college-student-level living expenses paid for), only really get money set aside to purchase necessary lab items and bio materials (in this case).

I don't think I've ever had the flu, but since my employer provides vaccination at work on paid time, I get vaccinated as my contribution to herd immunity.

My employer provides the flu shot as well. I got mine months ago and it didn't cost me a cent.

For someone to be filled with so much hate, something must have gone terribly wrong in your life.
If "something gone wrong" = "filled with hate", you would be Texas' Grand Dragon.

No, I'm actually a pretty happy guy, I just have a problem with people like you and Jenny McCarthy. Spouting ignorance in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary is irksome.

The flu is very dangerous, the truth is the treat of an avian flu pandemic is not hype. The danger is very real and even with are advancements the death will be well over 100 million.

I wonder what the anti-vaccine-conspiracy nutters will say if (when) a devastating pandemic does actually hit. I wonder how many will follow some sort of Contagion-style conspiracy figure head to their graves.

Anyway, I propose all flu/vaccine threads be removed from consideration for PoTY. They're too goddamn predictable.

So you just take your frustrations out on the internets?

Ignorance because I ask a question and voice my own opinion? So people should never speak out on anything? If that is the case, lets just close the internet.

Never have I said vaccines are bad. I wish I live long enough to see a cure for HIV and other viral infections. But until that day comes all we have are vaccines.

If we had more people like Jonas Salk, the world would be a better place.

Just on you, Corky.

No, ignorant because you ignore everything you don't already believe, whatever the veracity. People here have typed reams of information about immunology (and evolution for that matter) and you ignore it. All of it. Thus, you remain ignorant.

That is where you are the ignorant one.

I do read what people post. But as with anything else in life, I try to form my own opinion from the presented evidence.

Just because someone post something, should it be taken as absolute fact? No, it should not.

Who knows what will be discovered next week? Why should we take something as fact, when all it is is accepted opinions?

I have never, ever seen you change or even modify your opinion here no matter what is posted by people who are vastly more knowledgeable than yourself. There's a reason the phrase "willfully ignorant" is constantly tossed around in threads like this.
