The Gainward Ti550 Kicks Butt

Not only does this thing have really good 2D image quality (MUCH better than my Hercules GF2Pro), it overclocks like a mad man. I've got this thing as high as 265/602 with no artifacts looping 3DMark2001. 270 core made it freeze, though, but core clock isn't nearly as important as the memory clock. And 602 Mhz is amazing.

Yah man, Gainward boards definitely are underappreciated/underrated. I stumbled upon mine totally by chance but I would definitely buy Gainward again over any other board out there. Can't say that about too many other components in my system. I got a good 50-60% overclock out of my Ti450 putting it well within Ti500 range for $170.

I've gotten my Gainward GF3 Ti200 @ 245/560.. it might go higher but I'm too chicken to take it higher too Besides.. don't really need to anyway..

I got 8353 with my Athlon XP 1700+ @ 1.6ghz and the 23.12 drivers

That really great I have a Gainward Ti 550 on the way but my only reason for really getting it is for the DVI out I have a LCD diplay. Iread article on DVI and the editor freaked me out with the fact that the geforce2 and 3 original versions did not work. Has anyone tried the DVI on the Ti550.

Nope, not yet. I've been looking at LCDs, but their limitations right now just don't thrill me (I'm a gamer). Though, I might get a small one for my second box, just to save space.

I have a gainward Geforce3 Ti200, and i think there *might* be something wrong with it.
I was able to easily OC it to something around 220/460 (its not that high, but wouldn't go higher without locking up). After a week of being OCed, i noticed that in windows, my text was 'jiggling' back and forth. It wasn't just text, but it was the easiest to see it there. I thought my monitor might be dying, but i had it replaced and it still did it.
Finally one day i put my card back to standard settings, and the jiggling went away!
I now leave my card at standard timings, cause clear text is a lot more imporant to me than an extra 5fps.

Seriously though, i am dissapointed, cause this was supposed to be a 'golden sample' thats meant to be OCed.

I got 5500 in 2k1 with my Gainward Ti450. I simply do not understand how you guys got those scores. When I overclocked mine, it locked up at 520 memory. I also tried overclocking a little under that, but it didn't do a damn thing to my 3dmark2k1 score!!

I'm sending it back tomarrow. guess I'll wait until GF4

Get it replaced then. The Golden Sample cards are guaranteed to overclock to the enhanced setting.

It did OC to the enchanced setting. However soon after my text started jiggling (i thought my eyes were going!!).
I've had it for a few months already so returning it isn't much of an option, except directly to Gainward, and they service is... lacking.

Besides, i'd rather not have to wait a few weeks to get a replacement. The only spare vid card i have lying around is a banshee <shudders>

I'm running nVidia's reference drivers. I never loaded Gainward's drivers. Just what is the "enhanced" setting for the Ti550?

The reference drivers default to 240/500.

Overclockability with video cards is the luck of the draw. This is the FIRST video card I've owned that overclocked like this. My previous video cards NEVER O/Ced like the one's I saw reviewed online. I was just lucky this time.

I've had it to 2.4. Right now I'm focusing on the video. My score without the CPU O/Ced has already beat all 2.2s out there, and is within striking distance of all O/Ced 2.4s.

My next focus is the CPU agian. One day at a time...

the 'golden sample' cards are guaranteed to overclock to their enhanced speed setting, which is in the ExpertTools. It is even covered under warranty. I would guess the TI 450 is guaranteed to 200/450, but that is just my guess
