Inspiring engineering at it's best.

A bridge just outside Da Nang in Vietnam is wowing visitors with its elegant design – seemingly being held aloft by two huge stone hands.

Known as the Golden Bridge, it stands 4,500 feet above sea level above the Ban Na hills, offering stunning views of the majestic countryside. The gold-colored walkway is lined with purple Lobelia Chrysanthemums and is almost 150 meters long, curving around in an elegant design. However, it is the aforementioned stone hands that give the bridge its true wow factor.
The design for this bridge comes from a company called TA Landscape Architecture, and while the hands look like they have been carved from stone, they are actually not. A representative from the company said that “we designed the skeleton of the hands and covered them with steel mesh. Then we finished with fiberglass and added the theming on it. The entire construction of the bridge took about a year.”
Vietnam has experienced a tourism boom as more and more people hear about the beauty of this remarkable country, and this structure is part of a $2 billion investment to bring even more than the 1.5 million visitors the area receives each year. Scroll down and take a closer look at this stunning bridge!

I was there a month ago.

It's kinda stupid.

Packed with people shoulder to shoulder. The hands are just spray painted to look like rock and are hollow - the actual supporting beams are steel pylons that they don't even bother to hide. And it's not even that high off the ground - you certainly don't get the feeling of walking over the sky like you'd get at a glass bridge sky walk at the Grand Canyon or something.

Ba Na Hills in general is just an amusement park. It's impressive that they built a massive medieval castle village on top of a hill but up close everything is fake, hollow, and painted over.

Since China basically runs that country now, it's not surprising.

I was going to complain that the hands aren't holding anything really and it just has all those obvious structural support pillars....but thank god someone else got in here and jerked it up before me.

Not exactly. China and Vietnam aren't the best of friends. They don't even allow Chinese passport holders to enter their islands since the South China Sea is contested. The islands are covered with a military presence to ward off the Chinese. They get a lot of Chinese tourists, as well as tourists from other Asian nations, but in general they're not too fond of the Chinese.

It's there to make extraterrestrial invaders think twice about attacking.
