I had something similar: http://techreport.com/articles.x/8308/1

That was one of the finest video cards I've ever used. For a long time I had it in a crappy case with bad airflow, and it was still rock solid.

I'm still using an old x800xl to in my basement computer to: 1) browse and 2) maintain an typical WinXP machine (from the XP heyday). I still go back to it frequenty to fire up old software and/or hardware (e.g., camcorders and vhs-to-mp3 converters). I'll try to keep the card running as long as it will go. I've already baked it once.

I remember 2004-2007 as the time when graphics cards were probably at their most expensive for what you got. Plus, the 6-series and x800 cards were probably an all time low point for availability and paper launches for ATI and NVIDIA.

I think you get way more for your money now, and for the most part cards are not hard to find. Sorry to rain on your nostalgia parade, but I don't miss those days at all.

Yeah i remember my X1900XT, it was a noisey POS that died after a few months, no doubt i was simply unlucky but it still sucked. I expect my 5850 to last a lot longer now both physically and performance wise.

I had an X850XT Platinum Edition.
It was pretty good card, didn't seem too noisy or get hot at all with a Zalman cooler on it.
I thought the X800XT PE was better in fact.Having had both and watched how long they lasted I'd give the nod to the X800XT PE.That thing had just great image quality.

Had a 1950 pro AGP which lasted me for about a week or so before it realized it was powered by an old 220W PSU and went up in flames.

Naturally I was dumb enough to tell the store I bought it from my entire rig's specs, including the psu, so they new it was my fault the think broke down, which meant the warranty was void...

...First video card I ever bought too ...

My first bought was a voodoo I card... lateron got a voodoo II... then went with Rivia Tnt card.

I remember back when duke nuke'em was all the rage at lan parties, back when 2d speeds where more important than 3d. Back when a 166mhz cpu was insanely quick... and ATIs onboard 3d support was a odity. Back before 3dfx was around.

I have an X850 Pro AGP that I flashed to an X850 XT using the information in a thread at tech Power Up! forums. I installed an Arctic Cooling Silencer 5 on it to handle the extra heat. It was my first "project" card with the BIOS flashing and aftermarket cooler. Its in my backup PC (Athlon64 3700+) that has WoW installed on it with some other games from around 2004 to 2006. At 1280x1024 it still plays them fine.

I'm still running a pci-e x850xt in my 2nd PC, which is slowly morphing into a HTPC/network storage hybrid right now. It might get replaced by a low end 6 series though now that I got a decent receiver for the tv setp (tx-608)

There was a 1900XTX that was rare to find, ...ended up getting one

When was this card ever rare... I bought one the day it came out...

honestly I don't think I'd ever want to spend 600 dollars on any single card again..

The only reason I got it originally was because I was about to also purchase a 3007wfp.. I was one of the original 4megapix gamers. MY FRAME RATES SUCKEDDDDDD,,, until the 4870

x1900xtx had Terribly inadequate cooling, I had to get an HR03GT for it which came out WAY later than the card.. I had a zalman 900 something which didnt' do shit before the hr03gt...

The card is a BEAST with the hr03 though.. no crashes EVER,, and it OCed like a champ.. even with volt mods the card was still relatively cool..

I still have a X850XT PE and a 6800 Ultra. I recently sold mt 6800 GT, 1800XT 512 CE, 7800 GTX 256 x 2 (SLI), 7900 GS. I have to say i was the most impressed by the X1800XT 512-- Yes it was loud-- But it still can play today's games @ 1280. I have owned over 30 video cards over the years -- 4870X2 + GTX 280 and GTX 295 -- to many to keep up with.

I forgot to mentioned before i have x850xt agp. I used 6600 by gigabyte, even then the graphics are awesome.

I'm just blown away with PC graphics and I'm excited the GPU advances in a few years.

I remember buying up 3 built-by-ATI X800XL's in 2006 for $149 each. Boy were they nice cards. One of them replaced a 9500 pro. Quiet and powerful. It was sweeet gaming with a 2007FP @ 16x12.

I think back then I used a 6600GT AGP. the names on the ATI side of that era still confuses me, couldn't really remember, X800s X1800s X1650s they really had an explosion of names.

I remember upgrading from my 386 DX-40 & Trident 8900 ISA to a 486 DX2-66 that had an amazing 16(!) MB ram & scorching fast Tseng Labs ET4000 Vesa local bus video card. Boy did that make a difference on X-wing. (picture below is at native resolution)

Second reality was smooth as silk on that 15 inch monitor. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtCW-axRJV8
That all set me back close to $3,000 because I wanted the 400MB hard drive. What a luxury.

The sad part was I was completely bind sided by the need for a 2d accelerator & had to upgrade to a Mach 32 before the year was out so I could use a GUI without too much pain.

I tell you what though. That card was so fast that it could scroll the text in a window faster than a 14.4K modem could deliver it.

Those were the days--

I still have my x850xt in a box in the garage. I think I got it for around $250 or something during a sale in 2005. That card powered my BF2 play for about 2 years.

I still have an AGP machine with an X850Pro in it. I also used to have a Mach64 VLB 2MB card. Payed a pretty penny for it, I think I paid $200 or $300 for it, used. The list price on it back then was like $600!
