My vote goes to the Founding Fathers as the greatest generation of the US (for reasons that should be painfully obvious). No one has ever fought for this country like they did.

Yes...if you were a white male, preferably Protestant. The civil atrocities committed against other races and even against women well into the second half of the century disprove such a broad generalization that it was 'the greatest generation'

You could also say that that same generation at least started to address many of those issues.

Honestly, I think that I would have to agree, despite all of the shortcomings that go with it. It doesn't hurt that they had some great leaders and thinkers to go along with it.

or
the Jews who survived the Exodus to make it to the eastern side of the Jordan
or
the Romans who rose to empire under Julius Caesar

second place would go to the American colonists who beat England to gain freedom

then the WWII generation.

Don't get me wrong on this one, my grandfathers are both WWII vets and in fact I went to the WWII dedication at D.C. on Memorial Day for the dedication of the WWII memorial at the National Mall, it was very moving and a great experience to see all the men and women that gave and lost sooooo much for this country, that was a huge eye opener, I've heard the stories from both grandfathers my whole life but never was it as clear to me as that week I was there, to see my grandfather, a WWII vet and very strong man break down in tears while there, that is something that I will NEVER forget for the rest of my life, still chokes me up to even think about..

Exactly. It was the veterans of WWII and that generation who ended Jim Crow and broght about the Civil Rights Movement.

Those were a mistake. Adequate reparations were never made for lost property either, that should have been handled much better than it was.

Up to now, they are the US's greatest generation. Could they be surpassed in the future? Sure. But as it stands, they are/were the greatest.

Didn't they at first oppose US intervention in WW2?
