Don't just copy the kext to the extensions folder- that won't work because the permissions won't be correct.

Use kext Helper.

Is there any way to rick leopard into recognizing a PCI device. I know it "sees" them. I managed to get a PCI wireless networking card to work, right now I'm looking for a workaround for a P2 card reader.

I know that upgrading the system software is a no-no (i.e. do not upgrade the system software), but could I upgrade the JAVA, iPhoto, iTunes, etc applications? BTW- Kaido, this thread is great.

Meh.
I love tekzilla- but there was a lot of outdated info in that. EFI-X is pretty cool, but really, in my experience the Boot-132 method works pretty damned good, and it's free. Having built many a Hack without touching a command line, I have to call BS on their assertion that it's a requirement. Ditto that you can't use Software Update with Boot-132 and other methods. Bullony.

And the EFI-X is $240?? I thought the price was literally half that. $120 or so didn't seem so bad to pay for convenience, but twice that... errr...

Personally I say use Boot-132/the right hardware/a good guide, and sink the $240 into better components.

Oh yeah, and impossible not to mention: Veronica Belmont looks smokin' hot in that episode.

no idea, i don't actually follow hackintosh stuff that closely.
so boot-123 is updatable?

anyways yes belmont is cute.

i got the tranny vibe from the hackintosh girl though, which is a shame since she seems like such a geeky girl.

Original message deleted...

I was having problems with my SATA drives being detected during initial GA-G31M-ES2L install using Kaido's guide. The BIOS settings in the es2l_slytherine "package" has the old/wrong settings. The updated BIOS settings file is on his website separately. The revision is the following:

On-Chip Primary PCI IDE: [Enabled]
On-Chip Secondary PCI IDE: [Enabled]

The version in the "package" has the above settings as being disabled, which causes the ES2L to not recognize the SATA connections (did I say that correctly?).

On to the MemTest and then my first hackintosh!

Kaido...thanks for all of your hard work!

I used the kext helpler and it said it installed ok, but I don't know how to test if it has loaded.

The network is working but I still have a MAC address of 00:00:00:00

Any other ideas?

Thanks.

Do you mean IP address? The MAC address should be tied to the hardware and unchangeable.

If IP address, are you using DHCP, or manual? Does your connection point to your correct router address and (if needed) DNS server?

UPGRADE QUESTION:

I have a perfectly good working 10.5.2 Kalaway install but I want to upgrade to 10.5.7.

I have backed up the system HDD to an external using Carbon Copy and I have also backed up my extensions and kernal using OSX86 Tools.

I am a little nervous to just choose software update as I don't want to brick my system.

I have read every article in this post, some give me hope, some give me fear.

I also read about the iDeneb updater... maybe this is what I need.

My Kalaway 10.5.2 install went smooth, I can't remember if I installed anything special with it, just the Nvidia options I think.

What would be the safesty way for me to proceed?

Thanks for any advice.

@filthyphil: post your system details?
You'll have a better chance of updating to 10.5.7 by using up to date components: Intel CPU & chipset, SATA HD & optical drive, USB mouse & keyboard, etc.

Quick question with background info...

Is it possible to determine if I overclocked my CPU in hackintosh?

I am running an Intel E5200 and a GA-G31M-ES2L and have everything running smoothly via Kaido's guide. The E5200 runs @ 2.5 GHz stock and I am trying to OC it to 3.0 GHz. I have changed my BIOS settings to run @ 3.0 (see settings below) and everything boots up and Leopard loads properly. I have noticed no problems. My question is, how do I know that the E5200 is successfully running at 3.0 GHz in Leopard? I have even gone to the lengths of installing VMware Fusion and running CPU-Z to get info and it says the E5200 is running @ 2.5 GHz. Also, I have read that the E5200 is very easy to OC.

Here are my BIOS settings:
Robust Graphics Booster - [Auto]
CPU Clock Ratio - [12X]
Fine CPU Clock Ratio - [+0.5]

CPU Frequency 3.00 GHz (240x12.5)

CPU Host Clock Control - [Enabled]
CPU Host Frequency - [240]
PCI Express Frequency - [Auto]
Performance Enhance - [Standard]
System Memory Multiplier (SPD) - [3.33]

Memory Frequency 800 800

System Voltage Control - [Manual]
DDR2 OverVoltage Control - [Normal]
FSB OverVoltage Control - [Normal]
CPU Voltage Control - [1.18125V]

Normal CPU Vcore 1.27500V

Thanks for any suggestions!

I keep getting the Time Machine error. I've installed a realtek 8139 ethernet card, but I still get the time machine error (built-in network interface cannot be found). I've disabled LAN 0 and 1 via the BIOS. Should I try anything else (other than getting a different ethernet card)?

Thanks.

Just installed vanilla OSX 10.5.6 (iPC_OSx86) (C2Q, 8800gts640, asus rampage) all is well but cant get dual boot to work.

I can get into Win7 or OSx by changing my boot order (F8 at startup) but it would be nice to do it with a boot loader.

Anyone had any luck?

Got my netbook, got my retail DVD of snow leopard, got a 8GB usb drive. THEN I finally read the part that you need a MAC on the side to create a bootable USB image from the DVD. /sigh....
