Any running 10.5.x Leopard Hackintosh system will also work. I recommend iDeneb 10.5.8 installed onto a blank HD & a compatible Intel chipset & CPU machine.

I can get into Win7 or OSx by changing my boot order (F8 at startup) but it would be nice to do it with a boot loader.

Anyone had any luck?

Have you tried EasyBCD?

I just found out that I now need a mac to Jailbreak my iPhone. As this would be my only purpose, I thought I'd give this a try, and setup a dual boot. I found this guide, but notice it's for Leopard, and not the new Snow Leopard. If I manage to get this working, would I be able to buy the Snow Leopard disk, and upgrade?

Where can I find a list of motherboards that are compatible with this Hackintosh thing?

Can't do an in-place upgrade from OSX 10.5 to 10.6 SL very well on a Hackintosh, since you're going from 32-bit drivers to 64-bit. Best to do a fresh install of SL. Or: fresh install SL on a spare blank HD partition.
Use Chameleon to dual-boot Leopard & Snow Leopard; keep Windows on a separate HD.

http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

Simply put: fairly recent model Intel chipset & CPU, USB mouse & keyboard, SATA-only drives.
Using a non-Intel chipset, AMD CPU, PS/2 mouse or keyboard, or IDE drives can be somewhat trickier to get OSX working.
If buying a new board, I'd suggest the Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R (or -UD3P) board as a good place to start looking.

Thanks for the info! I haven't found a guide that shows how to do a fresh install on a Hackintosh, without have a Mac of some kind to do it with. Sadly, the only person I know who has one is 6 hours away.

I found out the hard way, that I need a SATA DVD drive to get the install to work. I planned to get that & Snow Leopard today at Microcenter, but left work too late to beat the traffic. I might run out tonight, but now I don't know if I should get SL.

Try iDeneb 10.5.8 (Google search). It's a Hackintosh bootable disc that's fairly easy to get installed.
Partition the SATA hard drive into 3 parts, reserving the first partition for Snow Leopard.
Install Leopard 10.5.8 on the 2nd partition.
Format the 3rd partition in FAT32, for easy read/write with Windows data.
This guide describes how to install SL while using an IDE optical drive:

Picked up a SATA DVD drive, and a copy of SL. Since I had already burned a copy of Kalyway, I gave it another shot. After 2 or so hours of messing around, I finally got it working & dual booting with Windows 7.

I cried about an hour after trying to upgrade my phone, because I needed to upgrade Safari in order access itunes. No biggie I thought, and off to Apple I went to get the latest version. I had installed 10.5.2, and so I needed to upgrade. Just like that, the stupid upgrade thingie popped up. Cool, I thought, and hit the button to let it do it's thing. It wasn't long after that that I saw Apple's version of the BSOD.

Starting over as I type.:frown: This time though, I'm going to try to go to SL.

Just an update. I ended up taking your advice, and going with iDeneb. I couldn't find 10.5.8 that wasn't loaded with virii, so I installed 10.5.7, then went to 10.5.8 with a combo pack. My only issue is getting sound, but I haven't spent much time trying to fix it.

For the life of me, I couldn't get SL to boot. Does SL need to be in the first partition?

This one works for me:
"iDeneb v1.6 10.5.8 Lite Edition" @ at the bay of pirates.

Re: "Does SL need to be in the first partition?"
From what I've read on the insanelymac.com forums: yes, Snow Leopard does require, whereas 10.5 Leopard does not.
http://www.insanelymac.com/for...ndex.php?showforum=178
But, can't confirm that's necessarily true: haven't yet successfully installed Snow Leopard. Still using 10.5.8, presently.
What motherboard are you working with on the installation of SL?

I'm using the Abit IP35. That SL first partition thing blows. I could install it on my second hard drive, but I'm currently using it for my Win7 data, so it's in NTFS. Thinking about it, I could try gparted on that drive...

I'm thinking about building a hackintosh for my gf for Christmas since I already have some leftover parts after a recent upgrade.
-Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R
-Intel e5200
-Corsair 4GB DDR2

The only component I really need to buy is a video card. She won't be gaming or doing anything high end (but I'd still like for all the Apple OS X eye candy to work), so I'd like to spend $50 or less on the video card if possible. Any recommendations? I've seen some old threads recommend the 7300GS, but these threads/posts are usually a year old. I'm fine with buying a used vid card.

Thanks!

I don't have that card but I believe that card is still pretty good.

From experience most NV 8x series and 9x series work great. I have an Asus 9600 GSO 384mb that seems to be working fine (Just installed SL, so still unsure). Used 8800 series should be great too. Although I think they're one in the same.

There's a lot more info in other hackintosh thread in this forum.

A new 8400GS card can be found for under $30, and still supports DX10 when booting to Windows. ATI cards can be more difficult to use under OSX, so probably best to only use nVidia 8000 or 9000 series cards.

You don't need a mac to jailbreak your phone. You can easily download the programs for windows from blog.iphone-dev.org

alright folks, I need some help from the Hackintosh experts. I read a few guides and followed them step by step irregardless of the version of OS X I am trying to install. I am able to get the OS installed correctly, however upon reboot I get the "still waiting for root device" message over and over no matter what changes I make.

This is all on a stock Asus Eee PC 1008HA which I had thought was pretty easy to get OS X up and running (minus ethernet and wifi). I have already tried Ideneb 1.4 and Ideneb 1.6 and get the same error message on both.

Can anyone help?

Does anyone have the MD5 sum for iDeneb v 1.6 SL 10.58? I found an iso on TPB and can't find a valid Md5 to compare it with.

I am thinking of building a hackintosh and I have all the main parts picked out and I was wondering if anyone knew if they would work and if they do work, what anyones thoughts are as to any changes that i should make that would be beneficial, that would be greatly appreciated!
Here are the specs and parts that I am planning on using:
-Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor
-ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard
-XFX HD-489X-ZSFC Radeon HD 4890 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card
-Kingston 8GB (4 x 2GB) DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) ECC Memory For Apple
-Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB 7200 RPM SATA x2 (I am planning on running them in a RAID 0 for video editing)
-COOLER MASTER ATCS 840 RC-840-KKN1-GP Black Aluminum ATX Full Tower Computer Case
-CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power
-LG 8X Blu-ray Burner
-LG 22X DVD Burner
-Snow Leopard and Windows 7
This is the first time i’ve built my own computer so I’m not sure if my parts are compatible or if there are newer better parts and these are old. I’ve done some research but am still trying to figure out how the whole PC building goes as well as trying to figure out how to build a Hackintosh. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Installed 10.5 today, I cannot get the sound to work, it's Realtek 885 chipset, I found a thread on insanemac with a txt to import using AppleHDAPatcher, I tried 3 different versions. They all seemed to work, but when I reboot I still have no output sound device. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong here? I also have a Razer Barracuda which uses the C-Media 8858 chipset, apparently some people have gotten Asus Xonar(sp?) cards to work in 10.5.x and that card has the same chipset that my Razer done.

Google isn't helping me for either card

Ok, I got sound and video working, well mostly I get a kernel panic when I shut down, reboot or it goes into power safe mode. Here's my question, I found a Snow Leopard bootloader, and BB has the upgrade disc for $30 bucks. How fesable would an upgrade from 10.5.6 to 10.6 be? I'm assuming *hoping* if I did it, all my drivers would stay in tact. I have read some 10.6 Hackintosh guides, but they seem overly complex. With this Boot123 SL supported loader would I be able to pop the disc in and let it do it's thing?
Also, I only have 1 HD, I have tons of free space, but every tutorial says to use a 2nd, clean HD. I'm looking to get to 10.6 and ditch 10.5. If someone with OSX brains can fill me in here, I can decide weather to run to Best Buy and pick up the disc today or not

Confused here, I have an LG GH22LS40 burner, system profiler say it has burn support (generic driver) I tried 2 different burning programs, LiquidCD and uhh some other one (don't remember the name) when I put a CD in neither detect it. When I put a DL DVD in, both show it as burnable. Disk Utility is showing the drive as unsupported for burning. I know not all DVD drives work with OSX for burning. But any idea why it would detect a DL disc and not a CD? I have no regular DVD's to test it out with. Not sure if it's going to finish, but I'm currently burning a 7 gig DMG to a DL disc and so far it's working.

Any idea why I can't get this sucker to detect CD's?

*EDIT*
too weird, it burned the DL DVD, and I put the same blank CD back in and it detected it and let me burn an ISO. I think I had this same problem in Ubuntu, it must be a Unix issue with my burner or hardware

Well I finally got around to getting iDeneb 1.6 running on my HP 8530P. I have everything working except WiFi, Dual Monitors and some type of battery/power management. If any of you have suggestions for the power management that would be awesome! From my reading I am SOL on the wifi and dual screens.

Found VooDooBattery and VooDooPower, they seem to be working great. Now if Only I could get WiFi and dual display working so I can use this laptop docked with my monitor I will be a very happy boy.
