Sorry, it sounded like there was a dispute as to that fact ("the Apps store says I used a different Apple ID to purchase them ('09 version).")

So the problem is that your original AppleID is tied to a dead e-mail address and Apple won't help you change the address?

How would they know that you (current, new e-mail address) are "you" (old, dead e-mail address)?

MotionMan

I supplied the address I originally used, but as I said, I gave up after 2-3 hours of the gear turning on the website trying to send the email. BTW, these items were purchased directly from Apple, this was long before the App store existed. I just assume the address I used at that time is one that I used for a lot of online stuff which I purchased. I have since changed most to the newer address.

If it helps, you're not missing much. I upgraded my copy of iWork to the latest, and all I can say is... meh. If anything, they've just dumbed these apps down quite a bit.

I got them working, silly me, I put them in the same iWork folder as my old ones that is what messed everything up. I re-downloaded into the app folder and they work just fine. Have not really tried them out yet, but at least I still have my old versions if they are not an improvement.

I just did a clean install of Mavericks on my desktop using Unibeast/Multibeast. For the first time in over five years of running hackintoshes, I didn't have any complications with the installation.

Isn't it amazing how far the technology has progressed?

Now tell me that there's a way to get my 6970 working reliably, and I'll buy you a beer. I would love to get OS X back onto my desktop.

Looking at TonyMac's guides he doesn't cover laptops at all. Is there a guide on running OSx86 on a laptop anywhere and which laptops are best?

I have an issue that one of you guys can help with. Every time I wake my hack with Maverick, it has to verify the keyboard. It drives my crazy, but there just has to be a fix. I have the same motherboard as Zaap, a Z68X-UD3H-B3 .

^ Sometimes my rMBP does the exact same thing. A legit Apple laptop. It somehow thinks its keyboard is something new, and has to 'verify' it, and I have to go through the silly z-key, ?-key routine.

In my case, I think it has to do with plugging in my Microsoft Wireless Mouse. Something about it can trigger the keyboard thing. But it only happens like once every 20 or so restarts.

I'm using Microsoft Intellipoint Drivers- the latest version that still lists ML support but not Mavericks. (It did the same thing in ML as well.)

Any chance it could also be a wireless mouse or driver you're using? (Maybe one that hasn't been updated for Mavericks yet?)

As for my sig Hack- no such issues unless I plug in a new keyboard, but it's still running ML.

I didn't have the issue with ML, it came with Mavericks. I do have a wireless mouse, a Logitech. I'll have to see it they have drivers for Mavericks then.

Thanks!

EDIT: Logitech did have a new driver, but it did nothing for the issue. Maybe I'll just stop using sleep.

Laptops are generally terrible with Hackintosh because of a lack of driver support. I think the only one with great success has been the HP ProBook 4530s, which isn't made anymore. There is a sub-forum on the Tonymac website dedicated to laptops:

http://www.tonymacx86.com/laptops/

Check out Tonymac's readme on laptops:

http://www.tonymacx86.com/laptop-compatibility/71991-laptop-users-read-first.html

Especially this point:

5) Installing on a non-Apple laptop is a science experiment. You will most likely have issues with things like graphics, networking (wired and/or wireless), power management, sleep, integrated cameras, battery status, etc.

I have had decent success with the higher-end Sager laptops, because they basically use desktop parts, and one or two other random laptops, but I never got everything 100% working. If you're looking for a "cheap Hackintosh laptop", it doesn't really exist. Maybe if you can score a good deal on a used ProBook, but you'd be better off just buying a used Macbook for the price. Unfortunately, Hackintosh is primarily oriented to DIY desktop systems using very specific parts (Intel chips, certain video cards, etc.). Like, there's no support for Intel HD Graphics on the non-Mac laptops, nor is there support for Optimus switching graphics in Hackintosh. So there are quite a few limitations due to driver issues.

Yeah, I was extremely happy with my Probook 4530s. I edited an entire season of a show on mine. As Hackintosh laptops go, that was the gold standard. Everything worked on it, but I had to replace the built in wifi/BT chip with a very specific model that's compatible. Even then BT was flaky and I needed a 4.0 dongle to really make that work.

With a 1080p screen update and dual ssds it was a sweet OSX laptop. I'd still be using it except I sold it to a friend who's still using it on 10.8.5.

Even though the Probook was awesome I refuse to do laptop projects for anyone else. Desktops all day every day but no laptops. OSx86 is for desktops IMO. A laptop that works well is the rare exception, and a model that gets as much community support as the Probooks is downright rare.

Yeah I kinda wish I had jumped on the bandwagon at the time. I did go for like a 13" Acer something or other, did a quad-core upgrade, etc. and it worked pretty decently. The Sager was my road warrior for awhile as well (12 pounds + 3 pound A/C adapter haha!). I still really enjoy Hackintosh, just wish I had more free time to devote to it! Plus it's so easy now - Unibeast, Multibeast, and the new Guide system, it's hardly a challenge provided you get the right parts & have the ability to follow directions Mad props to Tonymac for making an awesome system over there!

Haha, yeah eventually it will be fun to find another laptop to hack, just for the fun of it.

Check it out, just got one of these:

http://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/bluetooth-illuminated-keyboard-k810

Logitech k810 illuminated BT keyboard. I mainly needed something small with backlit keys to fit the articulating tray under my desk.

Nice thing about the k810 is the Mac layout, and with the push of a button I can instantly assign it to any of my devices, Hack, MacBook Pro, Android tablet or Android Phone. (It says its for OSX and iOS devices but it works just fine with Windows and Android as well.)

On my sig Hack, using the standby IOGEAR GBU521 USB BT dongle, with my Apple trackpad attached as well.

I have the Windows version of that keyboard, I got it off of a trader here for a GREAT price, and it works like a charm.

Wow, that's pretty sharp looking! Do the new ones let you into the BIOS or do you still need a regular keyboard for that?

Used this guide to install Mavericks, on current system (see sig).
http://www.tonymacx86.com/374-unibeast-install-os-x-mavericks-any-supported-intel-based-pc.html

But every time I used MultiBeast 6.0.1 for post-install somehow manages to make the HDD drive non-bootable.

boot0 :GPT
boot0 :GPT
boot0 :GPT
boot0 :error

Currently using the USB stick to get to desktop with flags -v GraphicsEnabler=Yes ncpi=0x3000. So far it works like a charm, but would be nice if I can boot without the USB stick and flags.

Ethernet works, display at 2560x1440. Audio through a USB speaker.
I'm researching further for similar installs.

GeekBench 3.0 (64-bit) result = http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench3/212985/ - at 3.2GHz.

Nope, no BIOS support, but then I figured that going in. It seems to me, that unless BT support is built into the motherboard, then I don't see how it would work, since I'm using a BT dongle that needs OS-level drivers to function.

But for me, that's no biggie. I still have my old wireless in a drawer for the rare occasions I may need to access the BIOS.

Since you can boot with those flags, have you tried adding those flags to your boot.plist when booting strictly from the hard drive?

Also, are you using UEFI? Or do you still need a dsdt.aml?

I'm completely unfamiliar with any socket 2011 system; my guess is you'll probably need to find a specific Mavericks guide for your exact motherboard.
