Patrick McCaughey III, "who used a stolen riot shield to crush a police officer in a doorframe during the U.S. Capitol insurrection was sentenced on Friday to more than seven years in prison for his role in one of the most violent episodes of the Jan. 6 attack."

The prosecutors had asked for 15 yrs 8 months but the sentence handed down is one of the longest ones so far. He had a bench trial and the judge convicted him of nine counts, including felony assault charges.

He was definitely one of the worst ones so I am glad to see he is getting one of the longest sentences so far, even if it is shorter than I would like.

Better punishment is to allow the victim to inflict the same pain on the convict.

To some, perhaps.

Pretty sure most victims do not prefer some primitive barbaric vengeance-based "justice", but I could be mistaken.

I bet Hodges would love to place him in a door and push as hard as possible. Also Fanone would taser his convict traitor.

Texas Jan 6 rioter who was going to be charged with 4 misdemeanors now in a whole lotta trouble after firing at deputies at his home. Intelligence is not exactly a strong point with these folks.

He fired shots close enough for one deputy to say “...came in so close proximity to myself that I could hear the distinct whistling sound as the bullet traveled by me and then strike a metal object to my right side,” but isn't being charged with attempted murder of a police officer but rather just for possessing a firearm as a felon. Pays to be white while in Texas apparently.

Here's one arrest from yesterday I would like to see turn into a heavy sentence.

Jared Wise, FBI agent/supervisory agent from 2004 to 2017. He entered the Capitol, “clapped his hands and raised his arms in triumph.” He left and went to the Capitol’s Upper West Terrace where he confronted the police. “You guys are disgusting. I’m former—I’m former law enforcement,” Wise allegedly told the officers during the interaction, which was captured on body worn cameras. “You’re disgusting. You are the Nazi. You are the Gestapo. You can’t see it. … Shame on you! Shame on you! Shame on you!”

He also encouraged other rioters who were attacking the police by shouting “Kill ‘em! Kill ‘em! Kill ‘em!”

He faces 4 federal charges, including illegally entering and remaining in the Capitol building.

Latest scumbag to get picked up:

Authorities say Ball, 38, "worked with other rioters to violently push against fully uniformed police officers attempting to keep individuals out of the Capitol Building" and then "threw an explosive device into the entranceway."

Several officers suffered effects from the explosion, the FBI said. One described “hearing impairment lasting months”; another described the pain of his ears ringing as a 10/10 on the pain scale and said that he temporarily lost his hearing and that his hearing was affected for at least two days. Another officer reported ringing in the ears for nearly three hours, while another said the ringing lasted far into the next day, according to the FBI.

Maybe some sort of homemade stun grenade, like a flashbang without the flash?

Ah yes. The tried and tested "if I shoot at the police they'll go away and leave me alone" tactic!

All law enforcement or military personal should have their pension yanked along with jail time.

Hey look. This is what "hoisted with own petard" looks like.

Jurors have reached verdicts in the trial of 5 Proud Boys and their roles in the Jan 6 attack on the Capitol. Ethan Nordean, Joseph Biggs, Zachary Rehl, Enrique Tarrio and Dominic Pezzola were tried for three separate conspiracy charges, obstructing the Electoral College vote and tampering with evidence.  All five were convicted of conspiracy to obstruct officials from discharging duties and destruction of government property, aiding and abetting .Verdict have not yet been announced.

Oops. While I was composing some of the verdicts were being posted. I have added them above and below.

Four members of the far-right Proud Boys have been found guilty of seditious conspiracy. They failed to reach a verdict on that charge for Pezzola.

Some of the other charges they failed to reach verdicts on and apparently have been instructed to go back and try again.

The seditious conspiracy is the most serious charge they faced.

So what’s the punishment? 3 months of community service?/eyeroll

So far Joseph Hackett, Roberto Minuta, David Moerschel, Edward Vallejo, Elmer Stewart Rhodes III, and Kelly Meggs, in addition to today's 4 have been convicted of seditious conspiracy. As far as I know, none have been sentenced. From what I read the max for that is 20 yrs. A couple of them are due to be sentenced this month, so we shall see what they get. I would hope for more years than the 10 or 7 some others have gotten.

Is this yet another lie exposed that Jan 6 wasn't just a "normal tourist event?

Think that will stop the propaganda coming from the right wing media on this? Lemmings will still believe the likes of Fox, Newsmax, OAN.

Peter Schwartz was convicted last December of 10 charges during a jury trial, including four felony charges of assaulting, resisting or impeding officers using a dangerous weapon. Schwartz’s prior criminal history of 38 felony convictions dating to 1991 was a significant factor behind his sentence.

Today he was sentenced to 14 years. 👍
