Someone I am friends with on Facebook posted a thing about a woman who was "arrested for praying on January 6". Any subsequent reading beyond the headline of this link showed she entered the Capitol with the rest of the insurrectionists. Of course she deserves to be arrested. Not for praying mind you, but for partaking in the insurrection.

A California man with a history of political violence was sentenced on Friday to 20 years in prison for repeatedly attacking police with flagpoles and other makeshift weapons during the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.

David Nicholas Dempsey's sentence is among the longest among hundreds of Capitol riot prosecutions. Prosecutors described him as one of the most violent members of the mob of former President Donald Trump supporters that attacked the Capitol as lawmakers met to certify President Joe Biden's 2020 election victory.


Dempsey repeatedly stomped on police officers' heads. He swung poles at officers defending a tunnel, struck an officer in the head with a metal crutch and attacked police with pepper spray and broken pieces of furniture.

And he climbed atop other rioters, using them like “human scaffolding” to reach officers guarding a tunnel entrance, prosecutors said. He injured at least two police officers, prosecutors said.

The way I read that is she pled guilty to obstructing federal investigators and being present on Capitol grounds during the riot. She is supposed to be sentenced in January to up to one year (not enough IMO).

Is there such a thing as federal disbarment? (beyond being disbarred from all federal courts) I always thought that was a state thing.

I could be wrong, but I was under the impression any judge may refer a misbehaving lawyer to the bar for disciplinary review. So while technically, I don't believe there is a federal disbarment, if a lawyer was behaving unethically, the judge could send a review to whatever the local state bar was for that lawyer.

That's the thing...in many MAGA states, I really doubt the state bar would take action.

Michael Sparks , the first one to enter the Capitol after someone else broke the window, was convicted of all six charges that he faced, including two felonies. Charges were four misdemeanor counts, including trespassing and disorderly conduct, and 2 felony charges of civil disorder and obstruction of an official proceeding. Sentencing Jul 9. The other rioter who was charged with him pled guilty and was already sentenced to 4 years 2 months.
