This actually makes UT3 worth owning IMO, it's like Killing Floor, Left4Dead, and Painkiller rolled into one.

I guess I am stupid but where is the game located once its installed? I have the steam version of UT3 and it said it was successfully installed but when i click on the shortcut it just goes to regular UT3 game. I looked all around but I didnt see the mod or maps while within the UT3 game...

It should put an icon on your desktop for the mod. If not, you can start it by creating shortcut, setting the target to 'x:\xxx\Steam\Steam.exe -applaunch 13210 -mod=..\HauntedGame -solomod' and the Start In directory as x:\xxx\Steam (x:\xxx\ is obviously the path to your Steam directory, mine's on my I: drive).

It asks you during install if you want to create a desktop shortcut tho, pretty sure it's checked by default.

It's actually pretty fun, it's just you on whatever map fighting hordes of monsters, pretty challenging.

Definitely a challenge in SP. I can do the easiest setting, and will now have to try to step up. I found a nice camping spot in Canyon that should do nicely...

yeah I have the icon. I said that when I click on it it just goes to the regular game.

mine are:

so when you launch the game from the desktop shortcut does it go right to mod?

yeah I picked the Steam install. I cant figure this out but it has to be something simple.

One guy fixed it by downloading through Steam. Kind of a PITA, but that might be something to try.

well I already have the game installed through Steam so that wont help...

I thought you could get it from Steam itself. It doesn't even look like it's available from them :^/

well I installed the retail version of UT3 and then installed the mod and it worked. I have no idea why it would not work through Steam though.


anyway its kinda fun but the weapons are horrible sounding.

I'm glad you got it working. I haven't spent a lot of time with it yet. I still need to get my controls tweaked and everything. I've already had more fun with this than I have UT3 :^D

yeah thanks for trying to help. so do your weapons sound really bad or is it just me?? I had to check my audio settings and even fire up some other games just to make sure it wasnt my x-fi soundcard.

That's one of the problems I've had. I haven't been able to shoot a gun yet :^D I've done everything with the knife and chainsaw. The chainsaw's very satisfying to use.

The guys making it plan to add combat chatter and dialogue for the characters in the 3.0 version. Hopefully they'll be able to throw another map into the mix as well, although the ones in it now are excellent, some of the best designs I've ever seen in a mod.
