Also, I now need to build a nice speaker system to go around this new TV. I want to save some and get it right from the beginning (i.e. buying a matched component set, not a HTITB), but until then I need an immediate answer for a speaker system. So for the time being I need a HTITB system for around $500'ish. I've already got a good reciever (to be upgraded later), so are there any sets with just speakers?

I checked out the various HTITHB systems at circuit city tonight (and yes Pellinor, I got the hot chick at the registers phone number tonight too) and liked the Samsung, Panasonic, and LG sets, but could really use all the info I can get before buying.

This is what I recently picked up to replace my cheapo Magnavox HTIB. These are the best I've heard for anywhere near the price.

Check the rest of their site for even better (but more expensive) options. For my smaller livingroom the Tykes work perfectly. Look very classy too!

As far as HDMI goes, it's definately something to look for when buying a DVD player (if you plan on using it with a nice TV like this). But if you already plan on getting the new Xbox, then that should be good enough. I know that lots of people had issues with using their PS2 as a dvd player, but by now that should not be a problem on the new consoles.

I regularly play Marvel VS Capcom 2, and Street Fighter 3 on my 30" CRT HDTV and experience no lag. The only time I have even heard of such an issue is with some DLP sets.

How dows Capcom fighting games look on HDTV? I have my DC hook up on Dell 2005FPW thru S-Video. Have to tell you it looks crap compare to 27" Sony Wega. Capcom 2D fighting games does not work well with HDTV. I think it's optimized for 320X240 resolution. Other 3D games look great however.

I'm sad to say that DC is probably the last great vg system for 2D fighters.

So far the only drawback with the games on an HDTV is the reduction or lack of the "built-in" anti-aliasing most TVs provide. Other than that, the games look great and this is on an RCA connection (YMMV). I'm currently looking into purchasing a VGA cable and an adapter to plug it into my TV's HDMI port.

Man, if I had seen that the other night I would have probably ordered those Rockets. However, it seems I found another hot deal at Target (not sure yet since I haven't hooked em' up) on the RCA DVD Home Theater System - RTD218 for $164.98.

The cheapest online for them seems to be Newegg for $299.00

The Target SKU is: 057110216

They seem to have decent reviews, and the cheapest I've found them anywhere online seems to be Newegg in the above link.

These will do great until I can find something better on a component level. I really want one of those new JVC recievers with the Faroudja (sp?) upconverting chip, ethernet, usb and HDMI switching for $800. Despite Pelinor's belief that I bathe in cash, right now there are other priorities over home theater I'm afraid .

To johnnqq:

I've only found one flaw in my set so far, and that's a "pulsing effect" when it's left in it's "Vivid mode" that is default. When I switch to "Normal" or "Cinema" modes it turns the color temps down and reduces that effect. Actually, out of a few people I seem to be the only one seeing that effect in vivid mode, so I could just be crazy, that possibility cannot be ruled out .

I'm sure after I sit down this weekend and fine tune everything it will no longer be an issue.

Other than that, get one if you're wanting one and can.

To Glendor: Is that TurboGrafx16 w/ or w/o the optional 1x CD-Rom attatchment?? :Q

To jimmyjam: See my above mention post to johnnqq and tell me what you think. Other than that, how are you liking it?

To lokiju: I'm sad I missed out on those deals now. I'll have to keep my eye on Jokersmoker . Hope he doesn't mind a little voyerism! BTW, were you able to go back when they opened and get one?

Any others able to get in on this deal, please report.

Why do you care? The majority of people will be using the box from their cable company. The ony reason you would need one is if you wanted to invest in an OTA antenna, and most of us would need a rooftop mounted antenna to pick up OTA signals anyway.

If you are able to pick up OTA signals with a set top antenna then go buy yourself an HDTV with integrated tuner already.

Most HDTV's do not have a built in tuner. It's Just a pet peeve of mine that somebody always has to point it out like it's some HUGE deal breaker.

Built in tuner would be a bit of a requirement where I am.. cox coes not broadcast 2 out of 4 of the local popular channels ... and those 2 happen to be the ones football games are on.... Funny how that works huh ?

So far so good. I haven't had time to adjust any settings, so everything is still on default. I haven't noticed any pulsing at all. What kind of input are you using? I am using S-video for my dish network, component for my DVD player and RCA for Xbox. My DVD player is only 480p, but still looks pretty good. Dish Network is bringing my new HD receiver on Friday, so hopefully next weekend I'll get to some fine-tuning of the settings.

So far I am very pleased with the quality of the TV. The picture looks great, it has a ton of features, and the price was perfect. No complaints yet, except that I have to buy some new equipment to make it look even better.
