I, surprisingly, didn't see this posted yet but the house has passed two gun control bills.

They appear to be minor changes and I can't imagine anyone who wouldn't support this (except for right wingers and gun nuts) including responsible gun owners.

There's exceptions for some things:

(2) Paragraph (1) shall not apply to—

“(A) a law enforcement agency or any law enforcement officer, armed private security professional, or member of the armed forces, to the extent the officer, professional, or member is acting within the course and scope of employment and official duties;

“(B) a transfer that is a loan or bona fide gift between spouses, between domestic partners, between parents and their children, between siblings, between aunts or uncles and their nieces or nephews, or between grandparents and their grandchildren;

“(C) a transfer to an executor, administrator, trustee, or personal representative of an estate or a trust that occurs by operation of law upon the death of another person;

“(D) a temporary transfer that is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm, if the possession by the transferee lasts only as long as immediately necessary to prevent the imminent death or great bodily harm;

Other than that, private sales will require it.

Let's just say that I don't have any feelings about what happens to my fellow humans and would have absolutely no issues with causing them harm. My doctors and psych doctors know this about me because I am very open about it with them. I get asked almost every time I go in if there is any status update as far as gun ownership goes. If I ever buy one they will be the first to know and will voice their concerns to the local authorities.

How about some kind of stricter background check that grants someone a license to purchase for a few years? This could be a win for all sides:

1) Gun control advocates get the (stronger and more universal) background checks they want
2) Gun control opponents get a far more efficient system. Once you've got a license, you can now purchase a gun at will with no more checks until license renewal time. Maybe waiting periods could even be reduced.
