I haven't heard any hating on slumdog millionaire. I've never seen it but I don't think I've heard from anyone that they didn't like it.

I'll argue your "hate the popular" view though. I think why that may seem the case is because when people watch a shitty movie and it sucks, they don't bitch about it. But when people watch a movie that is supposed to be great, and it sucks, there is a stronger backlash.

I really don't understand how people can say that the movie was realistic. The bomb guy ignoring what everyone is telling him, taking off his gear, going rogue into the streets trying to track down a kid, bomb experts going off randomly into the night to try to find the bombers...not going to even bother with the sniping scene. come on now. if the movie wasn't trying to play itself as some realstic movie, based on on scene reporters etc etc, the crazy shit would be ok. but don't tell me that the movie is realistic...

I wasn't gaga over slumdog millionaire, if that makes you happy.

How about this:

The Hurt Locker >>> Crash >>>>>> Slumdog Millionaire.

Sure I liked District 9 too, even once the protagonist started to be able to understand an alien language fluently in a matter of hours, but that's beside the point.

He was already aware of the language, was he not? Or at least, being the local human "expert" on alien behavior, had a rudimentary understanding of it going into the plot time of the film. (Assumed back story)

It's been a while, and I only watched it once. I actually own it...

I liked it, though I had hoped for more. :\

For me, The Hurt Locker was the obvious winner of the bunch. I would have liked to see Inglorious Bastards win as well. Such a fantastic piece of film-making that is.

Inglorious Basterds had what's that called...oh yeah...A PLOT!

The Hurt Locker, while enjoyable, was nowhere near the movie that IB was.

I didn't have a problem with the movie being unrealistic (which it was). I simply didn't think it was all that good. I gave it 7/10 on imdb. For reference, here are what I gave some of the other best picture nominees:

Inglorious Bastards: 8/10
District 9: 9/10
Avatar: 10/10 (mainly for the ground breaking visuals)
Up in the Air: 8/10
A Serious Man: 8/10
The Blind Side: 7/10 (saw it in a distracting enviro, may need to revise upwards)

I liked Slumdog Millionaire quite a bit more than Crash, for the direction if nothing else, though I did not hate Crash. I actually accidentally purchased 2 copies of Slumdog on Blu-ray; anyone want a free copy?

My sentiments. While I didn't dislike or hate the movie, I remember everyone wouldn't STFU about how great it was- internet, newspapers, & TV.
.

i say the same thing about movies like, Spiderman/Batman/Ironman. so hyped and boring as shit Even that lame movie Avatar looks stupid (tho have not seen it) just the fact its been hyped so much it is probably stupid.

as for Hurt Locker. saw it and enjoyed it. its like real war, 90% boring and 10% scare the shit out of you intense.
