I went down the rabbit hold of wanting a weather station in my backyard. As long as I am going to get one I want one that is fairly decent. Holy Crap there are some weather nerds out there. Anyway ended up with the David Vantage Pro 2. I did not get the $200 add on fan that pulls air past the thermometer for a more accurate reading.

I want to be able to look at my phone and see the weather at my house. If I need to register it there then I will. That is all I really want, to see how much rain we got(live is SoCal do very little) and to see how windy it is.

Please provide a review after using it for a few months. I’m in the market for a weather station.

I just bought a heavy wool long coat. It is ~60s vintage, in perfect condition, and the fit is also perfect. I’ve never owned one before. I tried it on in the store and wife took one look and said, “buy it.”

I had a 50s vintage Hudson’s Bay hand-me-down short wool waist jacket that I liked. It was my dad’s from when he was in high school. I outgrew it pretty quickly and my sister took it. I think she still has it.

I sprang for a Hexclad 10" frying pan. Most expensive pan I have ever bought. I tried browning ground beef and I made eggs this morning. The eggs didn't slide around like my kitchen was in a zero gravity environment, but the pan wiped out with a paper towel and I called it good.

No promises. I will try to do that, but will probably forget.

This site seemed to be where a lot of weather geeks gather. There is also a section title "What weather station should I buy"

Lucky. I am 5' 8", so as a comedian once said. Anytime I wear something like that I just look like the Hamburgler.

What happened to the pair that you bought not that long ago?
This was a very worthwhile exchange. The Campfire Trifecta were a great set of IEM that I would want in my collection - but not at the TOTL price of $3,200 clams. That's an IEM I would value at around 800-999 bucks. It does some amazing things with just a beautiful analog bombastic and fun-leaning sound. Sounds like you got a small set of speakers on your head. I auditioned them before at CanJam and loved them, but those 30 minutes were apparently not enough. They could sound messy and poor with quite a few recordings - a bit of a mid-bass bloat - again on certain recordings. When the track was recorded well for the Trifecta, they were amazing. But at that price point I don't want nor can afford a bit player, a situational IEM that is good for less than half the time I'm listening to just any ole playlist.

The Vision Ears EXT Mk II are excellent. These are organic sounding with great technicalities - a sound on the warmer/fun tip but absolutely done with restraint and with very high level resolution and separation. Soundstage is good but not great. Wider than tall. I always prefer DD bass in IEM over anything Balanced Armature. Though some combo BA and Bone Conduction units have piqued my interest, but not ready for those yet. I definitely would prefer the timbre of good DD mids over good BA mids - and the EXT Mk II do not dissapoint with their 6mm DD for the mids, while having a large 9.2mm DD for the lows. These are the kind of mids I love - it's not a night and day difference between good BA and good DD mids, but it is definitely noticeable to these late forties eardrums. The highs are pretty damn good utilizing four electrostatic drivers - which could have probably done with two, but what do I know.

Time to list my other TOTL money IEM and recoup some funds.

I upped the genset game at the house build.

7.5 KW light plant with a 30 A 14-30P 240V plug plus a 20 A for a couple of outlets on the side.
30 gallon capacity, 60 hours run time at 6KW. We use much less, so it will go ~100 hours on a tank.

Entering the world of merino wool socks. Ordered some Darn Tough Tactical pairs. Figured I'm going to be breaking in some boots, might as well try some good socks that won't make my feet sweat and blister up while breaking them in. $29/pair is outlandish, but I guess they have a lifetime warranty so we'll see.
Let me introduce you to Farm to Feet. Best damned wool socks I’ve ever worn.

Bought my first pairs at small local shop…they never re-stocked, so off to Amazon I went.

Those look nice. I'll keep them in mind. I usually get my socks from the thrihtshop, or places like Marshalls, and I have a good supply of quality socks, but secondary channels may one day dry up.

Anyone near Marshalls should stop in and see what they have. They get a lot of good socks(and a lot of junk) that are priced decently *now*. Where it gets interesting is next year when they're trying to get rid of them, and the prices go through the floor. They may or may not last on the shelf that long, but it's worth keeping an eye on. Some of the premium brands are seconds from the mill, but I've yet to find a problem with any of the seconds I've bought from them. I couldn't point to even a minor flaw. I have no idea what made them seconds.

Oh, and wool for sure is the only way to go. Summer, winter, boots, or shoes; nothing beats good wool socks.

My sister loves Warrior Alpaca wool socks because she is always cold and has tried a decent amount of brands, though I don't know the list. I ordered her a pair for christmas and grabbed myself one too

I bought flowers for my wife’s birthday. We don’t have a single vase in the house and have always used a ceramic pitcher as a vase. At some point in the past few months we got rid of the pitcher. Now I’m scrambling to find something that will work for a vase. I might go buy a can of Pringles.

I have to remount some crown molding due to foundation settling. I found this Porter-Cable air nailer on sale for $29 at Home Depot. I also bought a Werner 6' aluminum ladder for $40 from them a few weeks ago - x-mas present.

Bought a mitre saw to do some simple construction in the basement. I also had to pick up some concrete drill bits. I thought I had the right ones, asked two old guys working the store and got a loud "Wrong!" followed by all the help I needed. God bless competence, it seems increasingly lacking in the world.

The Remarkable 2 e-ink reader is pretty nice, but man I wish it had a backlight. It's cool that they're 100% on board with you SSHing in to do things like add fonts though.
