Big fat cushy office chair. My last one finally broke and I replaced it with a stiff unpleasant office chair. Finally decided to get another plush cloth one.
Oh, and big rubber casters that dont leave marks or make noise.

Figured it was time to get a proper bench power supply. Got it used on Ebay.

Below is what my old one was... yep just an old computer PSU, and yes, that's just copper prongs sticking out, so I can clip crocodile clips to. Now I need to get proper banana clips for the new power supply.

It also came with a cat bed:

And a free cat . Miss our cats :-(

Edit: I miss Midnight; Jesse was a bit psychotic.

your dog food bill must be huge 😱
costco FTW. about 12 cups a day for the pack.

Maybe they can snack on the sheep!

the pyrs and one heeler like the, uh, extras?? like the bunny heads on processing day. turkey parts without bones. etc.

Henry the pyr takes the whole bunny head and throws it in the air in delight and then eats it. feet and tail go to the dogs too.

one of our heelers refuses to touch them, because we are barbarians that eat our pets and they were his friends.

Got this desktop firepit because I never use the one outside except once or twice per year and then mostly viewed from the monitors.

But I don't like candles or incense since there's a lot of particulate residue. Most probably gets caught (eventually) in the fairly dense, accordion style furnace filter but it's not technically true HEPA. Note, I have my reasons for not using HEPA but let's skip that.

Unfortunately, my OCD still has issues with fire indoors. So I'm not sure how much this is going to be used but I so love the concept.

edit: It uses ethanol denatured with methanol so at least in theory, using almost 200 proof ethanol should allow it to burn cleanly.

Not sure if I can do follow ups as one might be inclined.

Finally got around to setting this up. At first it looked like this might just be pricier can of catering sterno. But even with 190 proof (=99.5%?) denatured ethanol it does give you a decent flame. Not quite campfire worthy, but considering there aren't any other trade offs, I still like it. The existence or not of yellow flame though, at this point at least, is a bit of a mystery. I've only burned it for a couple of hours off and on (long story) so I might come back to update that. But based on my truly random sampling so far, I'm going to say it seems to be present to an acceptable extent . . . . mostly.

edit: ah, there's a metal tab sticking into the flame that is the "full" marker, but I suspect that it also determines when the flame turns yellow. Flickering blue hits the tab, more or less yellow, otherwise, sterno.

Maybe add some impurities to the alcohol for a yellow flame. Alcohol burns too clean and hot I think for a good visible flame.

edit:
Maybe a bit of salt?

Thank you. Reminds me of HS chem. Sodium looks like it could be a winner if I get a similar result with NaCl (table salt). Potassium Chloride (KCl? Also sold as table salt IIRC) is another option.

I'm getting a corked beaker so I don't have to juggle the gallon jug and the tiny reservoir.

I want to experiment a bit first. I think the tab interrupts combustion so not everything burns cleanly. So I'm going try some different metals at varying distances from the flame. The additive idea is very attractive though so I guess we'll see how curious I am.

general note: I understand I can probably find what I want online and might end up doing that. But there's thing called "fun" and I'm easily entertained.

Being the embarrassingly lazy POS that I am. I headed straight for the salt and OMFG, fantastic. I was a little heavy handed with the salt but the flame burned with a perfect golden flame for about 2 hours. It was still going when I used the big ass, flat bottom candle snuffer they give you. Works instantly. But you could see the top of the cotton stuffing just slightly smoldering between flicker of the dying flame.

I wonder if lithium salt would be toxic. I've taken lithium carbonate before and had no issues. I might still have some from like 20 years ago. Pretty sure it does not "go bad." But there are also other excipients. Meh. It's a 4 bedroom home with basement that I keep fairly warm for the cats since they like to snuggle up to the garage door and outside next to the windows and cinderblock foundation.

The point is that there's a lot of interior space to dilute anything that's only marginally toxic.

Just got 2 Archipleago-brand candles. Thx to whomever it was here that turned me on to those.

I'm feeling less tight-assed that usual about airborne contaminants. My anxiety didn't really make any sense given the fact that my radon levels hover around 6.5 picocuries per liter and the you're supposed to remediate above 4.1. Eh. Whatever.

I'm hoping the combo of pot/hash oil smoking plus other particulates will force my lungs to do proper housekeeping

It seems that the salt degrades the cotton turning it, very literally, into a fine dust. It also seems accelerate combustion.

I've moved this to the bedroom. I have 2 moving, kaleidoscopic night lights that paint these lovely, fluid images on the ceiling. So the addition of a quite large flickering yellow flame is very nice. At least until I fall asleep, the alcohol burns out [so true on so many levels], and I wake to the "scent" of burning cotton dust.

Side note: I think I'm becoming more behaviorally adapted to being stoned than straight. Way, way, way back when I was a serious pothead and nearly flunked out of law school [had to take a semester off, learned to drive a bus, chaos ensued], I read or was told that some of the chemicals in pot, either as-is or after being metabolized, accumulate in your synapses and interfere with communication.

Unless things might have changed since my pot smoking days, and they now include in cocaine/meth in the weed, I never once felt motivated to clean my house when stoned........ever.

And sometime Fentanyl... that garbage is no joke.

Thank goodness for regulated legal and safe/clean weed in CT.

Just bought more masks. Finally lost most of the cloth ones I bought in 2020. Time to restock. Pandemic isn't going away soon.
