If I get to a point that I'm lonely, which could very well happen later on in life especially once my family is gone, then I'd figure something out, either look for a partner or even just a friend who wants to live that lifestyle.
Well, I think it's great that you've really given this some thought. Too many people just let life happen to them. And sure, there's a place for that but only if you have a stable base to launch from.

On a lighter note, I suspect that there will always be a good crop of Asian, south Asian and Eastern European mail order brides. And if things don't work out, since you're out in the boonies, well, people go missing all the time. Pumas, bears, junkies, who can say.

It sort of worries me that my mind tends to like to curl up in these dark places. Hehe.

Got tired of managing the fire on my cheapish offset. It made good food but it was a hassle to keep at temp. Decided at this stage in my life I want a bit more on the ease of use department so I went with a digital electric. Pork ribs and pulled beef chuck roast today to break it in.

I just bought one of the 60v dual motor ones for myself and a 48V dual motor for the wife. I've put about 60 kms (35 miles) on mine so far. Great little bike Safer on trails than a regular bike imo because you don't have to cannonball down every hill to give you momentum for the inevitable uphill bits. Nice low step over height and low center of gravity. No wipeouts so far but gotta think before you turn on the front motor. If I had found out when I was 8 years old that such a thing would someday exist I'd have been wetting myself all these years just waiting for it.

Nice! Lot of people seem to like those. What made you decide to go electric vs pellet?

I looked at pellets, I also looked at the gravity charcoal ones. Ultimately I decided that I have a perfectly cromulent grill so I didn't need the higher heat and searing of a gravity and I didn't need the extra expense and machinery of a pellet. With 4 racks this Masterbilt has lots of cook space, more than most entry and mid level pellets, and only cost a touch over $200 with a cover. It's hard to find a decent pellet for less than $400 and the good ones can be $1200 or more. I also didn't want to pay for wifi, which is standard on a lot of newer pellets, because I already have a Meater.

Definitely can respect that. I got lucky and scored Pit Boss Copperhead 5 pellet smoker from Walmart on clearance for $100 which I've been happily using for the last couple of years. I bought it because I was curious about pellets but I love it so much that I rarely use my Kamado Big Joe and Weber Smokey Mountain to smoke. It's way easier to use, have lot more space, and produces better tasting smoked food IMO. Over the years, I've become very picky about clean tasting smoke and pellet smoker produces taste that's closest to clean burning offset smoker.

20 neodymium 8x5mm. I've been driving hob nails with humongous heads that are (by my manual measurements) 13mm or about 0.5 inches. With the magnets attached, I can hang anything that has at least some ferrous material. Pliiers, medium size knives . . . and those are conservative examples. Vertically or laterally both hold roughly the same loads.

Hatch Restore alarm clock. They have it at BuyBuyBaby which will take Bed Bath & Beyond coupons, so I saved 20%.

I already have insomnia, and having the phone right next to bed has just made it worse. So I decided to start leaving/charging my phone overnight in a different room. The Restore acts as a reading light, then with a tap it will play some nice water sounds, also has other options, for a specified amount of time as I doze off. It will wake you slowly or quickly, whatever you prefer. The app is pretty decent. The reading light is bright enough, I used it to read a book until I tapped for the sleeping sound and then I dozed off.

For the first time since I got a cell phone, last night there was no phone in the bedroom I slept in. Going to try to get into this routine every night

Got a $100 Home Depot card for my birthday so figured I'd buy myself something. I have a lot of Ryobi batteries so I started to look through Ryobi stuff, was originally going to buy a work light which I often find myself needing when doing electrical but figured an inverter would let me plug in a regular 120v lamp, among many other things, so went that route. Also has USB outlets so it basically acts like a power bank too. Going to be useful for camping too. Also has a built in light which would actually be enough light when camping.

Testing it out now with my lamp in my office while I work from home, just to get an idea of run time on a standard 2ah battery. I figure about an hour with this fixture since it has a CFL and LED in a Y adapter so it pulls 27w. That is plenty for most situations as I'd be using the bigger batteries and have a few on hand. For bigger loads I'd be plugging into the main solar inverter anyway.

more playing cards with badass art from Peter Mohrbacher. I have loved his Angelarium stuff for some time now, and am pretty excited about having these.

Makita sub-compact drill/impact driver kit. My old Dewalt cordless was dead, and new batteries cost almost as much as a new kit .

Greenworks 80v lawnmower.

Told myself I'd slow down on big purchases but I wanted 2 more of the 80v batteries and I do want to move everything to electric anyway so figured why not. Snowblower is next thing on the list but will wait that one out more. Hoping Greenworks comes up with a 2 stage one.

It's raining now so can't use it but I tried it real quick in some really wet tall grass and it works well so I don't doubt I'll have issues. I have a small yard so probably easily do the whole yard on one charge.

Gas one works fine so I will probably sell it and try to get like $100 for it.

Finally invested in a mini food processor. Way more than I wanted to pay, but it will make up for the cost by the ingredient savings of being able to do smaller batches:

I've been experimenting a lot lately with new recipes & variations, especially pico & salsas (air-fried veggies FTW!), which usually means small batches to try stuff out. This is perfect for not wasting ingredients while I work through the iterations!

Went to the I-80 Flea market (Tinley Park, IL-Sundays 7am) May 29th, $2 entrance fee.
Ended buying 2 3D Blu-ray movies ($ 1 each) and a 14 year old Canon XSi with a Tamron 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 (Piezo Drive); dead battery and charger ($30).
Bought a replacement LP-E5 (2000 mAh) from Amazon ($10.96 after tax) and got it Monday 12:30pm; charged it and SLR works. Put in a new 32GB SDHC card, kept the original 8GB SDHC and will view contents (if any) ASAP.
