I just bought an Amazon Smart Plug for $0.99. Some accounts can use the "PLUG" promo code for $24 off.

I wonder what would happen if I plugged my Echo into it...

"Echo, turn yourself off."
"I'm sorry snoopy7548, I'm afraid I can't do that."

I just bought a few things:

M2 Macbook Pro 13" with 512gb SSD and 16gb RAM. I know the "air is better" but I don't give a crap. I want more thickness and prefer the older design and this thing is docked 95% of the time. Don't care about the webcam, the screen is perfectly fine, no notch, i don't care about tiny bezels or any of that shit. To me, the "dated" design of the 13" MBP is perfect and I prefer it to the newer ones. So far, great machine.

Microsoft Ocean Plastic mouse. I am saving the planet with this thing, so that's awesome. The packaging is actually great and it was nice not having any plastic waste to throw out. Well, there is a tiny sliver of plastic to cover the battery terminal. But everything else went into the compost bin. Decent MS mouse with the quality you'd expect. Feels good in the hand, scroll wheel is nice. Clicks are a little loud, but it's fine. Bluetooth is good. I recommend it. It was on sale and I redeemed a few MS rewards points so this had no cost.

Logitech Crayon - got one for my 7 y/o who is a budding digital artist and realized that I wanted one for myself. Had an apple pencil for taking notes on my ipad but it died and seeing her use the pen prompted me to decide it was time to start doing that again. Order placed. It's a decent pen and works great for simple drawing and note taking. Much prefer the feel of it in the hand over the slippery 1st gen Apple Pencil. Don't need pressure sensitivity and i believe that's the only shortcoming with the Logitech vs. Apple pens.

Walgreens had a sale on playing cards, so I got some more decks:

Pretty standard looking face cards, but the art on the pip cards is really nice.

from the tuck case art, i thought there were going to look really neato, but only the face cards are different. they are skull faces, and thats kind of it. a little disappointing.

i almost didnt get these but i am glad i did, these are really awesome. all cards have art of architecturally notable structures in a vaguely blueprint style. i REALLY like these a lot.

They make "large" and small cylinders of ice. The small ones are the same profile but are different densities. The S size probably make aircicles whereas the L size is solid.

prime day worked out good, got the 14TB red with the amex $25 off using points and the 5900X processor using the discover $30 off and the prime day $12.50 promo credit. not going to see that thing for $290 again. also got some cheapass noise cancelling headphones for the office.
might be the easiest processor upgrade i've ever done. might have been done in under 10 minutes if i'd been speedy about it, including upgrading the bios.

I nearly cut loose for a 5950x myself on Prime day but bottom line is that in games the performance gains would be small to non-existent over my current 5800x especially in lightly threaded titles where it's lower boost-clock speed might actually reduce my frame-rates somewhat.

I more seriously considered the 5800X3D which would significantly increase FPS in MOST games but even that seemed like a stretch for $450 since I game @ 1440p/165hz or 4k/144hz w/DSR and thus am mostly GPU-limited.

this replaced my 1700X in my server running VMs and recodes and stuff.

my server, once again, has a faster processor than my gaming computer. and this might be the most stark difference yet (3800X). but as you said, i'm probably graphics limited anyway.

In THAT case this upgrade must feel like engaging warp-drive!

As for the 3800x, remember Zen 3 was actually a huge upgrade over 2 in gaming performance but not nearly as much for productivity stuff. (a 5600 non-X will outperform even the 3900x/3950x in most AAA game titles)

I very likely would have thrown the 3800x in the server instead myself and gone with a 5800X3D for the gaming rig.

EDIT: I just noticed that you have nearly 102 THOUSAND posts ?!?

Do you ever sleep ?!? (and that HAS to be the current #1 no?)

I'll probably do a couple of updates on this.

I've always been a little curious about ice makers. This one seems to work by having 2 rows of what I'll call 4 shiny metal "teats." Apparently these get dipped into a very shallow plastic tray that fills with water. I'm guessing that the coolant is circulated thru these but I think they might use 2 or more temp settings during the freezing process. One seems to give you the air/ice "cubes," while the other gives you what looks like mostly solid cubes.

Note: all of the so-called cubes are actually hollow cylinders. When a new set of cubes is ready, the machine seems to use air to dislodge them one by one. It's actually sort of fun to watch, but as I have said many times, I'm easily amused.

The air cubes are probably chewable but I haven't tried yet. These transfer all of their chill to a room temp liquid very, very quickly and then just disappear. The more solid ones tend to last a while.

The main diff I see between these petite little cubes and the ones from the freezer is that the latter come out much colder. The freezer is set between 0 and 5 degrees F. So these tend to be much colder than what you get from the machine and therefore say, 8 freezer cubes seem to last about the same amount of time as a couple small scoops (comes with dainty scooper)from the machine.

I should also mention that the body of the machine does not appear to be refrigerated. It is insulated though. Even so, if you leave several batches in the machine, they tend to melt and stick.

Another important observation is that, aside from turning it off, what will happen is that either the basket will fill with ice and the machine then stop or it runs out of water. In either instance, the ice basket will let the ice melt and then drip down into the reservoir underneath the basket. As the basket becomes lighter (or as the bottom fills with melt water), the machine will keep going through these cycles until you turn it off.

The AI bot posts are the rational ones.

well, I'm still just rocking the 2700X...so you beat me there.

As for my most furious posting pace: it was achieved, I want to say....2010-2017, or so. (this is based off of work time during that era, minimal effort required, troll concentration on the boards, etc)

...It's older and needed a few small parts, but the bike itself was only $20 from my neighbor. Now I just have to fight the temptation to upgrade things that don't really need replacing, heh.
So much for fighting that temptation...$1433 in parts and related tools later...

Looks the same at a glance, but most of the parts were swapped out. New fork, crankset, bottom bracket, chain, pedals, front and rear derailleurs and shifters, wheelset, cassette, tubes and tires, locking axle skewers, hydraulic calipers, levers, rotors, grips...I think that covers it...edit: and the seat LOL

Went from a 9 speed rear end to 10 speed, but lost a ring up front. I like the gear selection so I won't miss the 7 gear ratios that I lost.

edited to swap to cat-infused photo

Been kind of thinking of getting a bike myself. I have a foot related illness that stops me from being able to walk so been spending all summer sitting around the house. I should be able to bike as pedaling is not putting weight on the ball of the foot which is the part that's affected so at least it would let me get out more and get sun/exercise.
