Ordered this big Zojirushi vacuum insulated traveler, i.e. 20oz. This has the Slick-Steel interior, not the non-stick interior coating (which most of the Zojirushi travel mugs appear to have) which customers say has 30% less thermal insulation properties.

Good choice.... I much prefer straight-stainless (or glass) to anything with a nasty non-stick coating to potentially leach carcinogens into my food/drink.

Replacing as many batteries as it makes sense to with Lithium Ion rechargables. Went with the Tenavolt brand.

Definitely on the pricey side (~$35 for 4) but they're holding up incredibly well and seem to follow a really solid power curve (more like traditional alkaline where they hold voltage for a long time and then quickly die as opposed to NI-MH and NICAD which have a sloped voltage curve and get kinda wonky in a lot of devices at the middle of the curve).

Will stick with rechargables for durable items like remotes, flashlights, xbox controllers, etc and disposables for kids toys and such where if something breaks and is haphazardly tossed it won't be much of a loss.

That is my instinct. I don't buy anything with non-stick coating. I cook with cast iron or stainless steel. I do have a few aluminum pots but use them very sparingly.

I love my 16oz Zojirushi slick-steel interior vacuum travel mug. Used it yesterday and after 12 hours the coffee in it was as warm as the coffee would be in my 16oz Contigo after 4 hours.

Today I went on a spending spree (rare for me) for shoes. I have had problems buying shoes for years because I need 4E. Most all of my shoes have been New Balance because 4E New Balance have been easy to find and New Balance 4E size 11 Men consistently fit fine. But they have been getting harder to find. They used to make golf shoes, but evidently don't anymore. Couldn't find them last time I looked, so bought Footjoy IIRC, got a tip they make a wide golf shoe.

@Captante posted in a thread I started a few weeks ago asking for quality basketball shoes I can use as quad skate uppers (the New Balance 11 4E 902 shoes on my skates are pretty beat up now):

He said:
The brands with the most size/width-options tend to be ASICS, New Balance and (believe it or not) Skechers.

Skechers have never been on my radar, but I looked into them. I opted not to buy because the shoes I was looking at have their insoles glued in:

After Burn Memory Fit - Geardo Black/Charcoal Style #: 50120-BKCC

I bought Fitville instead

FitVille Men's Extra Wide Basketball Shoes with Wide Toe Box Comfortable High-top Sneakers for Flat Feet

They cost more than 2x as much as the Skechers. When they finally came (from Asia!) I was really disappointed. Not only didn't they seem very robust and tough, the exterior was largely blue suede! Um, blue suede basketball shoes? Are you kidding me!?!

Well, searching I came upon a YT video of an old skinny white southern guy who showed how he removed the glued-in insoles from Skechers Memory Foam shoes. Took 10 minutes to do it, the guy was just way too southern laid back for me, but I realized that if he could remove the insoles, I could too. I ordered that Geardo Skechers pair and received them yesterday. This morning I rip out the insoles. A bit messy job but it worked out. I put in Superfeet insoles instead and walked a few blocks. I was really impressed and figured buy another pair. The price was right (~$55), hard to beat and they seem like good hiking shoes. I had never bought a pair of hiking shoes in my life!!! So, I notice an email today from Skechers (I joined the other day) offering a 20% discount [code SUMMER20 ]. I decide to get that 2nd pair. Their website is pretty great. They offered similar (but better, more expensive shoes) also having Extra-Wide (4E) option. I found two styles I liked, decided I want two pairs of all three styles I was looking at! Came to almost $500 after discounts and tax. I notice an email from Skechers tonight asking me to call them to confirm the order! It was 7 minutes after they closed for the night, so I'll call them in the morning. Don't remember having to do that when ordering online (I am small fry!). I suppose it looked like it could be a fraud, who orders 6 pairs of shoes? I DO! I spent days over the last month looking for shoes for my skates, drove 60 miles last week, visited 4 BIG stores stocking lots of shoes, one of them a Skechers Warehouse Outlet, and could not find a single pair of shoes that remotely looked appropriate for me. I am pretty confident I will love these Skechers!

The guy at the Skechers Warehouse Outlet told me that their Memory Foam Fit insoles are glued in because if they weren't they would have many shoplifted out of stores. I posted a question at their website today about the shoes I just ordered (4 pairs of those weren't Memory Foam insoled) asking if the insoles are glued in or not and got a professional answer saying they are lightly held in place but easily replaced.

Glad to hear it worked out.... whatever fits your foot comfortably is the "best" shoe so there's no substitute for going to the store ALONE and trying on a whole bunch of shoes!

I've never actually ended up buying Skechers sneakers although I've come very close. They always seem a bit "stiff/hard" to me although they do fit very well otherwise. (I have a pair of skechers but they're slip-on "docksider" style casual shoes)

I hate trying on shoes in stores because they hardly ever fit me. I have found over the years that New Balance 114E fit me fine, invariably, so I haven't hesitated buying them online from any source at all including Ebay. Kohl's around here had terrific prices on them compared to sporting goods stores, so I bought a bunch there. Last week I go into Kohl's and they had nothing in a New Balance basketball shoe. Neither did Dick's, which was a disappointment because two shoe salesmen told me they were the place to go for them. They had 4 pairs of 4E athletic shoes, all low tops (New Balance and Nike). I had all but given up and figured I'd have to use those Fitville for my skates until I unboxed the Skechers I received yesterday. They are light years better. At less than 1/2 the price too!

Funny .... I take that EXACT size/width in a NB.

They're one of the very few sneaker brands where size is consistent between different models... some brands have size issues between pairs of the SAME model! (looking @ you Adidas and Nike)

Point being New Balance is pretty close to the only shoe brand I'll buy without trying on first. (even then I ALWAYS prefer to try shoes on!)

Been trying to spend less money lately, trying to pay off the credit line, but I did buy more silver. Some copper too for fun. I focus more on the silver though. Maybe gold at some point too but even 1 oz is a lot of money.

I am now officially at 100oz of silver total.

Yup, I don't remember having a fit issue with any New Balance 114E and I have bought probably dozens now! Sad I can't get a basketball or golf shoe from them now.

So nice to know it will fit straightaway. I never feel like I'm breaking them in! OK, they do feel better after wearing a little, but don't feel like they don't fit.

Edit: Reviews of Skechers I've read (quite a few now) indicate the sizing is pretty standard. One person complained his 4E were too narrow, however. The pair I wore today did not feel too narrow.

I believe they have an additional 10% discount for picking them up personally but some of the shoes I just ordered aren't stocked at their warehouse outlet store locally. I think the pair I got yesterday came Fedex. When I talk to Skechers tomorrow I will ask about shipping to Walgreens instead of my house. Walgreens has a contract with Fedex supporting that, but not with UPS or USPS.

I've owned 3 pairs of Skechers and all 3 were similar to the slip-ons I have now.... the only complaint I might have is the soles wore a bit faster than expected.

HOWEVER my first pair had a problem with a bulge that popped up in the interior of the left toe area which was an obvious defect but it was too long after purchase to return to the store.

I emailed Skechers support and within 24 hours I had a return-label + a credit for the full amount I paid @ the online store. (I did have to email a pic of the issue & receipt)

Can't recall wearing out the soles on shoes since I had to give up running. I used to build them up with Shoe Goo, which was probably what caused my plantar fasciitis... soles too stiff from putting that stuff on thick.

Does your house look like my house now? This guy's too haha:

I am not like that but I do have too many cups. Was always in search of the perfect coffee mug. I have a bunch of ceramic mugs I've liked (I'm hard to please... first requirement is it's pretty big) but I've settled on Yeti 14oz for the thermal advantage. Plus easily maintained.

Skechers are made in China, but from what I've seen they are pretty darn good. I just hope that the people making them aren't working 70 hour weeks!

I went to Contigo's website a couple weeks ago and filled out the form indicating my issue with the lid on one of my 16oz travel mugs. I uploaded a JPG of the lid showing where a piece had broken out resulting in the mug leaking badly. I had seen that they have a lifetime warranty. I had seen that Contigo is scheduled to go out of business as of November, so I doubted I'd get relief. I saw some info that people, some people had great difficulty getting the warranty honored. When I filled out the form it said it could take 2-3 weeks before I heard back from them. It was actually 2-3 days and they said they were sending me a new contigo mug and I got it a few days later! I doesn't hold a candle to the Zojirushi's for thermal retention, but will work OK for taking in the car. The Zoji's are so insulating that it can be a problem if your coffee is too hot. It can stay that way for hours unless you pop the lid for a while.

I bought a quality walker with a seat that’s constructed for tall people, it folds up neatly & is fairly light weight. Also got a rather snazzy cane & a toilet bowl riser called “ queen of thrones” 😂 & 3M N95 masks.

3M N95 masks are AFAIK the gold standard. They are the only ones I wear. I like the 9210+. Great fit and elastic around the head straps. More effort to put on and remove but the seal is super, which is the main thing. I reuse mine until they won't seal well anymore or look too funky.

I like the duck bill masks but the 3M 8210 fit my face more snugly so I go with those.

Oh, I've never tried 8210 style 3M. Just the 9210+ style, but I've also ordered a couple of other 3M N95 models, but they were similar to the 9210+. One has a ventilation valve, which is a no no for covid... I skate the streets in those because

1. contagion isn't an issue skating the streets
2. the ventilation valve presumably helps my breathing, which is a big issue in aerobic exercise

The other 3M N95 I have seems just like the 9210+, doesn't have a ventilation valve, but it had rubber straps, which wear out and snap, sometimes at the worst time... I replaced the straps on all of those with elastic, quite a job but they were all I had in the early days of the pandemic. Prices went way up for 3M early on in the pandemic, but have come back down the last 6 months or so.

I was bummed Voyager was over, and bought my first game in ages to try to continue the experience. The graphics are... Something... :^D Kind of forgot what things used to look like. In the day, I'd have considered them amazing. Plays great on my Dell refurb with integrated graphics. Also seems to work in wine on debian. Had some weird graphics issues on first load, and had to twiddle some options in the config file(s) to get it going, but it seems to be good. It might even be fun. I got through the training mission in the holo borg cube, and just got to the main playing field. I'll fool with it more this week. Hoping I can dig up something good from the Janeway or Seven sound files to use as a ring tone.
