Technically not an item, but recently did a purchase which totaled to $10,994.60.

Got a road built and a section of land cleared. I did buy a culvert, so guess that counts as an item I bought.

$8,650 for the land clearing and culvert, and $2,344.60 for 3 gravel loads.

The best part of all this is I stayed more or less within my 10k budget, it took 4 days instead of the original 2 I planed for but there was a lot of extra work that I did not anticipate in the original plan, but it just made sense to do it while they had the equipment out there. The ground was very rocky which made it difficult to flatten it as is or to even dig much, so had to bring in material from another part of the property that was not as rocky. I kinda got lucky that material was there and easily accessible. They must have moved like 50 dump trailer loads of it so that would have cost a lot if I had to buy it.

Due to the ground the outhouse and especially septic is going to be a challenge though, but I will figure that out at another time. There are options for doing a raised septic system and can do a compost outhouse as a temp measure.

Wow a steel culvert must have set you back some. Way better in the long run than a plastic one. Anyway, your property looks beautiful.

Very worse case scenario though I'll just do a mound setup. When I build my cabin I plan to do multi storey so I will just put all the plumbing on 2nd floor so there's enough height to flow to the septic.

That's a silly idea, and it wouldn't work. Unless you want frozen pipes, the drain needs to leave the building below the frost line. Usually with a mound system you just use a pump, it's quite common.

Of course all pipes would need to be insulated/heated. Water supply lines would also need a re-circulation system. But even with an underground septic I would want to find a way to heat that. It would eventually freeze if I don't do anything. Even in the city they get water main breaks all the time due to lines freezing. I used to take the calls for the emergency cable locates and get a couple each day first thing in the morning.

Pretty much can't have any form of water stuff exposed to elements unless it's insulated and actively heated.

I finally bought retro stair treads for my stairs. 5 return treads, 7 closed treads, and a landing tread, all prefinished red oak. $811 including shipping, which isn't bad. I'll buy 1/4" birch plywood from Home Depot or Lowe's and cut/paint it myself for the risers, which should save me ~$100 over buying prefinished risers.

20'x30' heavy duty tarp and some yellow rope from Tooltown. Tarp was a little over half off, so I couldn't resist.

I'll use it to build a temporary shed on my newly cleared land so I can have some dry storage. Nothing fancy or super durable but enough to store some stuff inside like firewood, building materials for my actual build, etc. I don't plan to put too much more money this year into the property but I do want to at minimum have dry storage setup at least. I am kinda toying with a sea can too for more security but they are so expensive, and if someone really wants to break in, they will. A cutting torch will have that open in about 5 minutes.

Order came up to $73 total. Going to be shipped to local store here so no shipping cost. I often forget about that store, it's actually a nice gem for this sort of random stuff. The hardware stores do sell tarps but not big like this.

I use harborfreight tarps like that to cover my truck bed. Specs are pretty similar. They hold up well. I go through about 2 tarps/year. They're still usable when I retire them, but are starting to let a little moisture in. I use the old ones for other stuff.

@Red Squirrel I'm sure you know this, but at 8 mil, I'm guessing it's not breathable. That should be fine for your purposes just beware of condensation.

Yeah that is fine as it will be used for a shelter and not to fully cover things with. I may add ventilation to the shelter if I find it necessary. Hopefully I get at least a few years out of it as by then I should have a more solid shed/cabin built and this one would get converted over into a wood shed. I would add some metal roofing panels and leave the sides mostly open. The metal roof would also be a good way to collect rain water too.

A couple Imacasa's. Nothing fancy. Don't even come with a working edge, just the primary grind. Should show up at the house any minute now.

Just ordered some bulk storage.

If you open it up you'll probably find a 32MB USB thumb drive and a bunch of bolts.

I'd be interested in hearing what you think of the D handle blade. I'm using one from Ontario knife that I like a lot.
k. Well, so far I have only removed adhesive from the blade.
First impressions:

It's pretty thin. Tapered blade is 2.1 mm thick 1075 carbon steel, tapering to 1.44mm at the tip end. Thinner than Cold Steel's usual, and for sure thinner than Ontario. It's lightweight and flexy somewhat, not floppy. 22" overall. Manufacturer logo is engraved into blade.
The plastic handle is surprisingly comfortable, with a smooth, lightly textured finish. It's a good circumference, so I can almost just wrap my hand entirely around it, and I have big hands. Can't tuck my fingertips under my palm. Plenty of room for hand within the D. Good knuckle clearance too.
I'd characterize the machete as a thin slicer (when sharpened), not a sturdy hacker - more for softer foliage than woody stuff.

Oh yeah, swedge there above the tip is sharpened too. So it is double-edged! I cut open an envelope. lol

It was $24.

Just picked up a bottle of Don Julio 1942. I'm not the biggest tequila fan but it was on sale and I couldn't pass it up.

I'll put it downstairs in the collection with the other bottles of tequila that aren't opened yet.
