Don't know if I will do apple again, slicing into 1/4" slices, dipping in a DIY sauce. It's the slicing that's tedious. Bananas don't need the sauce, they're easier to slice too, plus bananas go bad 20x as fast as apples, they beckon me, "do something with me or I'll wind up in the compost pile." I took the procedures from the recipe book included with the Cosori dehydrator, it recommends 145F for all fruit. I run the thing until the chips are crisp. The bananas come out more crisp than the apples but I run it longer, 24 hours, actually.

I'm just starting with this. Can be used to make fruit leathers. I bought special trays to make those, haven't used them yet.

I have a couple plum trees and have made jam, sauces with them and canned them for decades. I'm going to experiment with the plums in the Cosori. I figure it will make prunes! In my experience, prunes keep really well, never noticed any deterioration over time and unrefrigerated.

For unreliable apples, AutumnGlory and LadyAlice are damned good. When you get a good one, they're amazing. When they aren't good, they're still fine, but nothing special.

AutumnGlory has hints of caramel and pear flavor, while LadyAlice tastes like cherry and amaretto.

Haven't seen those, but will try them if I do. For some reason the range of apples on offer in supermarkets has shrunk to just a handful - Braeburn, Jazz and the ones I mentioned before. And I don't care for any of those.

Love russets above all, but they just disappeared from the shops a few years ago. As did pippins. Annoying. I assume it must be a lowest-common-denominator taste thing.

There is a species of apple here in the states that are uncommon and hard to find. I've only ever known them as "Russet apples", and I've only ever found them at a tiny apple specialty market in Green Bay ("The Apple Store", been there for decades).

They'll get them in around November (obviously a late harvest) and they're gone immediately. You can reserve one or two small bags (or use to be able to, anyway) and that was the only way to get them. They were a limited harvest and always sold out right away.

I was introduced to these as a small child. They were the only apples my grandfather would eat, and he called them, "pig apples". I can remember sitting on his lap while he'd cut one up and share it with me. They have a unique flavor. Been many years since I've had one now.

I made the mistake of planting a honeycrisp tree in my front yard. Can confirm, huge POS that can barely survive on its own. My granny smith tree is way healthier and simpler. We’ll see if it comes back this year .. already had to replace it once because it got too cold for it last winter (-15 for a couple nights)

Yep I agree! A little over 5 years ago I went on a fruit planting spree in my yard. I planted a little bit of everything from apples, pears, cherries, grapes, plums and by far the worst performing tree has been the stupid HC apple tree. It's at the point were if it doesn't perform well this year I'm going to replace it with a better performing variety of apple because I'm just over it.

Used to really like pippins, but haven't seen any in many years. Granny Smith is similar but IIRC, they don't have as tart a bite as pippins. I have seen a limited selection, particularly at Costco and Trader Joe's. I should take a closer look at The Berkeley Bowl, being an independent market.

I've both read this, and heard it from a medical nutritionist. The number of and amount of pesticides used on apples tends to be greater than most fruit. Even with a good washing, the chemicals are still in the fruit.

That is why I stick to chocolate chip cookies. I am not going to chance someone mixing up the organic and non organic apples.

One last note on apples from me...the ONLY kind I don't care for? Delicious. They are too dry and fibrous. Any other kind, I'll eat it down to the exposed seeds hehe.

RedDelicious are fucking awful. Terrible flavor, terrible texture, and a bitter skin that's thick like leather. The only good use of those trees is firewood. If I owned a grocery, they wouldn't be sold there.

The lever on the float for my toilet broke so bought a whole new setup. Going to install it later. I've done many repairs on the existing one but figured it was time to just replace it at this point.

Cell phone case is exactly the same as my old one, but OD instead of tan. Different brand, and the new case has a brand tag on it, but it looks like it came from the same Chinese factory. My old one was wearing out after two years, but still has some life in it, so it went on my climbing saddle.

amish country is generally considered to be one of the top 3 or 4 brands as far as quality according to the popcorn snob forums. nearly everything in the supermarkets is supposedly the lowest grade bulk corn.

if you want to try something interesting, look for mushroom popcorn. they pop into more spherical kernels and are used in candy coated and other flavored popcorn.

500ft of direct-bury cat6 cable. I need to run a line from the house to our exterior building. Home wifi ain't penetrating a steel building.

Got everything installed over the past couple of days. Spray foam is a PITA when it comes to getting into the attic from the eaves, but luckily I had an outlet that was never going to be used. Uninstalled the outlet, attached the cat6 to the romex and pulled it through. Disconnected the romex from the junction and pulled the cat6 across the house. I ran pvc conduit coming out of the house, trenched about 75', and more conduit up the side of the exterior building, and some additional conduit inside the building with a single gang box. By the grace of god, all of my terminations (keystone, rj45s) worked the first time just a little more cable management and it will be done.

Ended up having to buy another part for my toilet, the fill valve is working nice now, but the flush valve started to leak so there's always water going in the bowl. It was probably on the verge of failing and I may have bumped it just enough to trigger the failure.

So ordered a new flush valve. Also ordered just the seal as that is the most likely part that failed, will try replacing only that first.

My toilet is getting more part upgrades than my PC this year.

The Logi G915 X TKL started double typing letters. Their quality has indeed gone down the shitter. And their CS sucks mostly, so I returned it. I ended up trying the ASUS ROG Azoth 75 at Microcenter and the typing feel is indeed as fucking amazing as the reviews say. Love this keyboard.

Yes the ASUS software does suck as all the reviews say, but just make a profile, save it onboard, and you don't need it anymore. The customization works for me - I programmed the 'Ins' key to be print screen, and customized the scroll key to work the way I want for media.

The buiild quality is also as good as the reviews say. I FUCKING LOVE TYPING MORE THAN EVERY NOW.
