I used to make smoothies with the following:

Cultured coconut milk (like yogurt)
Frozen blueberries
Fresh strawberries
Coconut milk (to make it less thick)

Which nut allergies do you have?

Thanks, I might give that a try (even though I also hate coconut). I have seen a lot of coconut products as substitutes for dairy, but I really can't stand the taste. I'd be willing to give them a shot if the flavor wasn't that strong though. I did buy coconut milk ice cream last night but I've yet to give it a try

There are a few things made with coconut that I really like (all filipino stuff):
Bigingka
Biko
Bilo Bilo

Almonds, black walnuts, cashews, english walnuts, hazelnuts, and pecans are what I know I'm allergic to.

I do still eat dairy products fairly often. I take lactaid ultra and these dairy digest complete pills. Unfortunately the pills don't always help when the food has a lot of dairy.

So Delicious brand does not taste very coconutty at all, IMO. They have Original, Unsweetened and Vanilla flavors for the milk.

Awesome. I'll give them a try. That might even be the brand of ice cream I bought last night.

Thanks again

Lactose intolerant. If I eat something with dairy (and I don't take my pills), I have diarrhea within 10-30 minutes, depending on the dairy content. The pills don't always help. Sometimes they just seem to delay the reaction.

And yeah it sucks to have nut allergies because I hear almond milk is a great substitute. There are also nuts in plenty of cookies/candies/pastries/etc (and dairy as well). I am not a huge fan of sweets, but every once in awhile I do get a craving.

My GI system sucks and I have bad allergies. It's lame.

how does this taste

smelled some uncooked kale and it smelled horrible and weird

Kale shouldn't really have a noticeable smell as far as I know. Maybe you got a bad batch?

The kale affects the consistency more than the taste. I have a halfway decent blender (Ninja) but if you don't blend thoroughly, it'll leave small kale bits that might bother you. I blend in a large jar and then again in a smaller single size jar to get the kale pureed enough so I don't notice it.

Have you tried Lactaid milk? It's regular milk without lactose, and it works for me, though I only have minor lactose intolerance. How about soy milk?

meaning you are lactose allergic? most of the world are lactose intolerant. that means a upset stomach from the lactose might occur and well as digestive problems or bathroom problems. but that depends on quantity. if you get diarrhea from having even a small amount of milk then that is likely a medical condition. lactose tolerance is not the regular trait lactose intolerance is.

Add a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to your smoothy to aid digestion.

This is mine, I usually do half before working out and half after. Tastes OK, but sometimes I put in a squirt of Mio to sweeten it up a bit.

Ends up being ~400 calories with 40g of protein:

- 2 cups soy milk (unsweetened)
- 3/4 cup greek yogurt (plain, non-fat)
- 1 tbsp peanut butter
- 100g spinach (1 handful)

Tried So Delicious vanilla ice cream today. Still had a very strong coconut taste. Gonna give the rest of it away

Lactaid milk is just milk with lactase enzyme (the lactaid pills) added to it. I generally still get an upset stomach from that. Soy milk is ok, but I don't want to drink that much of it.

If I had a milk allergy, the pills wouldn't work at all, right? I dunno. I've never had a test for that done. Just self diagnosed.

I use my morning smoothie as an easy way to get a bunch of nutrients into my body, besides the usual suspects (whey, kale, blueberries, yogurt), I also throw in garlic cloves, tomato paste, turmeric, ginger root powder, and psyllium husks for fiber. As you can see, I definitely don't make smoothies for the taste, I do it for health, however it doesn't taste that nasty as a cup of blueberries has a way of neutralizing everything. If I read of a study showing a particular natural food item could be beneficial to my health, I'll consider adding it to my shake.

Natural sugar is not inherently bad. Don't make it seem so. The fiber is sufficient. Also, have you checked the caloric density of fruit? Typically pretty low. It's not like eating a bowl of pasta. Low sodium salt makes it very easy to overdose yourself with potassium. It's silly and unnecessary. You're right about the other vitamins/minerals being present in other things. However, they're not typically as palatable. Honestly, even if this were an every day thing, the OP would be healthier than most. Especially if he's exercising in addition to that, his insulin sensitivity will be pretty good. No need to condemn fruit, of all things.

OPs stated aim - reduce sugar/carbs while eating more fruits/veggies. Avocados are richer source of Potassium than banana, while containing much lesser sugar.

Its extremely difficult to overdose on Potassium from low sodium salt.

Yes, OP will be much healthier than most even if he had the banana.

I did not condemn bananas. Avocado is also a fruit.

Edit : Juicing fruits does increase the glycemic index compared to raw fruit.

Two large spoons of refined sugar? Is that really necessary? Just substitute frozen fruits.

Uh no. two large spoons of peanut butter.
As I said, two large spoons of sugar and salt free peanut butter. In other words, peanut butter that contains no sugar or salt. Just the carbs found in peanuts themselves.

Sorry, I was referring to the milk. I've never tried the ice cream. The milk comes in original, unsweetened and vanilla.
