Edit-Looks like either the Onkyo receiver or remote is going bad. Or the ghost is becoming more active...

I'm getting sudden volume increases now in several different types of media. TV, radio, etc.

It seems to be tied in with the remote, it will light up during volume changes as if its being pressed, sometimes after 10 minutes, sometimes 1-2 hours. But its just sitting there. I'll clean it and see if it helps.

Its not a stuck button, as with Onkyo remotes, the button only lights if its pressed. If you hold a button down, the light stays on. The light is off when I look at it, but lights up when I hear the volume increasing.

You're suggesting that the DVD was somehow able to communicate with your remote control to turn the volume up?

I would suggest that either the button on your remote is flaky, or you were on excessive amounts of controlled substances at the time.

I've been searching various movie forums to see if this is an "undocumented" feature to tie in with the illusionist part/magic trick for the movie. Nothing.

Ok, How about anyone have an Onkyo receiver that suddenly went full volume on an error in the decoder???? I can't duplicate it.

To realize the significance of this situation, I don't scare easily or believe in conspiracy theories. I wasn't near the remote. I saw the button light up and the volume started to increase. I grabbed the remote and pressed the volume down button, no response. Still max volume. I had to turn it off and reset to get the volume control back.

I gave away my bible a long time ago, now I wish I had it.

I kind of expected these responses, in fact, if someone else posted this, I probably would have said the same thing. But to have something like this happen, so suddenly without warning, its very disturbing. I want to believe its an electronic glitch, somthing rational.

So... if you play that part on the DVD again, will your remote turn the volume up again too?

The volume increase was timed with a crescendo in the music, so I though this was a Dolby trick part of the movie, but I wasn't able to get it to duplicate when I rewinded and played it again.

I have never seen ghosts or anything supernatural, but this was completely insane. The remote was 2-3 feet away, no one near it. Anyone have this thing happen before?

Something similar happened to me back in high school. At that time Limp Bizkit's Nookie just hit the airwaves and my friend was talking about it. I decided to listen to it, and I thought it was a pretty good song, but the only thing that bothered me was the lady humming in the background. I thought to myself: "This would have been better if they take out the lady humming in the background."

Well, I played the song again immediately after it was done playing. Lo and behold, there was no lady humming in the background. I did not suspect any foul tricks from anyone because I was the only one home at that time. I even posted here to ask about it, but all I got was funny remarks.

As long as these experiences cannot be replicated, they remain simple curiosities, unfortunately... regardless of the questions you might have about what happened.

Nope, I was at my parents' house at that time. Unfortunately, I did not live like the 'cool' high school kids that you see on TV living in their own apartments. It was a weird event. I still could not explain. One thing that I came up with was that maybe someone hacked my computer, but at that time, I was on 28.8k dial up, so streaming a perfectly clear, good quality sound via the Internet was out of the question.

It's purely a coincidence, OP. There is no supernatural powers toggling your volume control on your remote while you're watching The Illusionist.

The ballasts from fluorescent lights can sometimes cause random remote interference. (sorry for the double post).

Electonic. Devices. Sometimes. Don't. Work. Correctly.

Are there receivers out there that can send IR signals BACK to the remote?

Anyway, it couldn't have been someone else with another remote, because he saw the button on HIS remote light up.

Also, it may have SOUNDED like a crescendo because YOUR VOLUME WENT TO MAX.

Also, remotes are sometimes faulty like that.

the thing is, the remote thought the button was being pressed.. cause it was causing the button light to light up... so it's like a short or a stuck button or something..

pretty wierd though..

Maybe you've discovered your hidden "Heroes" power that you have to learn to control.

Maybe we'll come to know you as the "Remote Controller" man....able to throw codes with a signal glance!
