What you just watched was a whole bunch of cell organelles and proteins carrying out various duties required to keep a cell functioning.

very cool. marked

however, if myosin actually "walked" that slowly, I can't imagine how we'd have a functioning muscle in our body, hehe....

I liked the translation/protein folding sequences the most.

Chemistry is my current major and Biology will be my second. Some of the things were done for dramatic effect I think in regards to the walking myosin, the organelles and matrices are supposed to be much more tightly packed as well. They got the fluidity thing right though.

I wouldn't exactly call it "just fancy flash." Those look like renders that were built from a set of confocal or electron microscope images. That means they're not some kind of artistic impression, but rather they're the way things really look, with enhanced coloration and contrast to exhibit the organelle morphology.

OP, I work in microscopic imaging. If you ever have any questions about digital microscopic imaging or microscopes in general, feel free to PM me. I also have contacts with people in the Northeast in the same field if your prof needs hands-on assistance.

Cool vid. Wish I had an AVI or MPG of it. Anyone know if the Firefox video downloader will capture a flash vid like that?

Pretty cool. I recognized some stuff from my 9th grade bio class.

I'll be taking molecular biology next year (to fulfill my bio core requirement and to possibly go on to be a Bio-Chem major; currently trying to decide between biochem and chem).

Oh snap, my professor said the walking giant with two feet is NOT myosin, rather it is KINESIN. Just a heads up and FYI.

Oh yeah, myosin provides motility for muscles. Kinesin, if I remember correctly, provides transprot within the cell of other organelles and molecules along microtubules. Same function I believe, unless myosin is just the fancy name for muscle cells. When we do western blots, the majority of protein junk you get is myosin (this from heart tissue/cells)

One of my favorite classes so far has been cellular/molecular biology. Watching vids of motor proteins(ATP bonds, phosphate cleaved, protein leg kicks out, ADP unbinds, rear leg springs forward) and DNA replication (Okazaki fragments in particular) were some of the most awe striking things i've ever seen.

mind giving detail on what you research?

I study cells, specifically cancer cells, so I can FVCK them up with loaded nanotubes. I basically research cancer and nanotech.
