New Cherry Trail & Braswell Processors

x5-Z8300: 1.44 GHz chip with 1.84 GHz burst and Intel HD 400 graphics
x5-Z8350: 1.44 GHz chip with 1.92 GHz burst and Intel HD 400 graphics
x5-Z8500: 1.44 GHz chip with 2.24 GHz burst and Intel HD 400 graphics
x5-Z8550: 1.44 GHz chip with 2.4 GHz burst and Intel HD 400 graphics
x7-Z8700: 1.6 GHz chip with 2.4 GHz burst and Intel HD 405 graphics
x7-Z8750: 1.6 GHz chip with 2.56 GHz burst and Intel HD 405 graphics
All of processors are quad-core chips.

Update: Intel is also updating three of its Braswell chips. In January the Celeron N3050, N3150, and Pentium N3700 will be replaced with new models with higher burst speeds and named graphics.

Celeron J3060: 6 watt dual-core chip with Intel HD 400 graphics
Celeron J3160: 6 watt quad-core chip with Intel HD 400 graphics
Pentium J3710: 6.5 watt quad-core chip with Intel HD 405 graphics

Closer to the 2.7GHz they originally chased.
Last stop till Broxton.

Its about time. What I would like to see is faster base clocks though. I mean, come on, I have a Bay Trail in a 60.00 winbook from almost 2 years ago that has a base clock of 1.33 ghz. I am not sure how much those burst speeds mean for cheap tablets, since most of them dont have really great cooling, and I doubt they can come close to maintaining those turbo speeds for any sustained period.

Edit: atom is OK for a cheap tablet, although I was hoping for more from Cherry Trail, but I cant believe they stick them in the Surface 3 for 500.00. I would love to have a Surface, but the SP4 is way too rich for my blood, and no way would I pay 500.00 for anything with atom in it.

Dont put too much into base clocks as such. See i3 6100U vs higher i5 models for example. Its due to the way turbo contra regular down clock works.

The only real way is to test it.

True, but the U models are usually larger, more expensive devices with better cooling. The winbook atom tablet that I have (I know it is cheap) gets pretty warm even in moderate use. I am not sure that it doesnt even throttle below base clocks, much less not maintain turbo.

6 watts? That seems a bit excessive considering Core M @ 4.5 watts is a throttling dumpster fire in any fanless form factor. I don't understand what intel is doing with atom, I guess their plan is to keep shoving it down our throats until we all swallow and start spending large sums of money on Atom-powered devices that are consistently outperformed by comparative devices from Apple circa 2013. Apple A7 on 28nm is still faster than almost anything intel has put out including their "desktop" skus.

Apollo Lake coming H2-2016, info about SKUs later this year. 6W and 10W versions, separate notebook and desktop SKUs again?

Goldmont cores, i would guess. Supposedly these have some CPU improvements, whereas Braswell ("Airmont") seems to have been just a GPU bump.

I am really, really, really annoyed with Intel about this by the way :/ Why not just release those as Silvermont v2? That's basically what they were...

Someone here told me it was called "Braswell" because the graphics were supposed to be a frankenstein of Haswell and Broadwell generation iGPU technology meshed into Atom, I think :hmm:

It originated from Digitimes. Yeah Digitimes and WCCFtech what a nice couple
They are referring NOT to Silvermont..... but to Goldmont ones....
And as for the X3, they are refferring to the BIG brands.... who no one gives a crap about them :V

Could this be the x86 Continuum phone we were asking for?

Sources familiar with Microsoft's plans have revealed that the rumored Intel-powered Windows 10 phone slated for May 2016 has been cancelled. Instead, an all-new flagship phone lead by Panos Panay and the team of engineers that built the Microsoft Surface and Surface Book has been given the green light. Slated for a release in the second half of 2016 this may be the long-wished-for Surface phone. Here is what we know and what we don't.

Intel's connection to this project is the most tantalizing. Many speculate that this will be a device that runs an x86 chipset or is something much more powerful than current Qualcomm Snapdragons. The ultimate vision some of us have is that such a device could not only run Windows Store apps but classic Win32 apps. A true computer in your pocket.

Broxton fits the bill.

Broxton fits the bill.

I hope an X86 Broxton can compete with the A9 in my iPhone 6s+ in terms of performance (CPU/GPU) and power consumption. I'd love to have this much power and be able to dock my phone to any monitor and keyboard and mouse combo. If this is the case, the Surface phone may be my next phone. It would be cool to have some of my STEAM library in my pocket as well

I'm not sure if Intel can pull it off though, seeing how top Core M and Cherry Trail SKUs are a throttling mess without active cooling.

Sounds weird, but Intel must introduce an active cooling on phones. It could be really useful.

Cherry Trail finally reaching low-end. Glad to see Atom x5-Z8300 replacing Atom Z3775F products.

Chuwi Vi8 Plus is a $100 Cherry Trail Windows tablet

Chinese tablets aren’t exactly known for their high price tags. But it’s still kind of impressive to see what you can get for $100 these days.

The Chuwi Vi8 Plus is a Windows tablet with an 8 inch display, an Intel Atom Cherry Trail processor, and a USB Type C port. You can buy one from Banggood for $100 or from Geekbuying for $98.

8GB, 1280 x 800 pixel IPS display
Intel Atom x5-Z8300 quad-core processor
Windows 10
2GB of RAM
32GB of eMMC storage

Asus QM1 PC gets a Cherry Trail CPU update

The Asus Chromebit may be the first PC stick from Asus that’s available in the United States. But the company isn’t limiting its PC-on-a-stick products to models that run Chrome OS.

A few months ago Asus introduced a Windows stick called the Asus VivoStick, but we noticed that the company also had an Intel Compute Stick clone called the Asus QM1. Now it looks like the QM1 is getting a hardware update. European retailers are showing listings for a new model with an Intel Atom x5-Z8300 Cherry Trail processor.

The new model is called the Asus QM1-C006 and it has 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a USB 2.0 port, an HDMI 1.4a connector, a microSD card slot, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, and Bluetooth 4.0. The stick measures 4.4″ x 1.5″ x 0.4″ and ships with Windows 10 Home Edition. It looks a lot like the Asus QM1-B002 model we saw earlier this year, but that model featured an Intel Atom Z3735F Bay Trail processor.

The new model sells for around 179 Euros ($194) or less. There’s no word on if or when it will be available in the United States, or how much it would cost in the US.

But why would you want to stream from a console most likely attached to a tv or large monitor to an 8 inch tablet? I also wonder between normal internet latency and the wimpy processor, how much lag there would be.

Waiting for Apollo Lake. I want to see Core 2 Duo tier chips in order to migrate my brother computer.

You can also use it for Steam in-home streaming
