BTW, a lot of CT offers lately, it seems they are clearing stocks for the Braswell refresh, hell be ready for OEM retarded to switch to N3010, just because its tdp its 4W and have higher turbo freq than N3050.

More Turbo only? That's retarded.... AMD Stoney Ridge is comming up and seems that assasinates brutally the N3050... with the same power use...

At least they wen't retarded and started to use the Atom X3....

I think OEMs screwing up CT implementations is also hurting the Atoms. I'd really like to try an 8" 4GB/64GB/FullHD Win10 tablet. However both HP and Dell majorly f'ed up the CT tablets. HP608 has firmware issues that HP seems to be unable to resolve, Dell also has massive problems with audio (this one seems to have been resolved with latest firmware update) and unresponsive touch screens that require warranty repairs. Dell apparently is so bad you can't even order it online anymore, it says "Call for pricing". Plus both Dell and HP raised the prices through the roof, the 4GB/64GB is going to cost $450 minimum and price goes up if you add more features such as LTE or more storage. $450-650 + tax for an 8" atom tablet is insane. The first generation Dell Venue 8 Pro with Bay Trail was only $300 and you could often find it on sale for $180'ish. I'm almost tempted to buy chinese 8" tablet, at least those are priced in the $100 area, but they're all 2GB/32GB which is just not good enough for me. I'm hoping the next generation, if there is a next generation won't have the same quality control problems as the current one, but it's going to be a long long wait...

I would call anyone that thought 16GB of eMMC was an acceptable amount of storage for a Windows-based laptop, criminally insane. GARBAGE!

Edit: Nota Bene: I know of forum members here, who owned 16GB eMMC Win8.1 tablets, and those devices eventually bricked themselves, due to lack of storage for basic Windows updates!

I also own some, but when I set them up, I disabled updates entirely, so that I wouldn't run into that problem.

Edit: Oh, and I paid $120 for my Lenovo IdeaPad 100S Win10 laptop, which is along the same lines as the CloudBook, but it has 32GB eMMC, which I consider to be the minimum required amount of storage, if you want to update your OS, and actually install a few programs.

Yea, I had to restore mine to original factor default settings and turn off updates.

Asustek Computer has added platforms developed by Qualcomm and Taiwan-based MediaTek for its ZenFone-series smartphones, reducing the proportion of platforms developed by Intel, its original supplier. Asustek's Intel chip demand is estimated to decrease from about six million units in 2015 to below five million units in 2016 and may be down further by 50% in 2017, according to industry sources.

With major clients such as Asustek and Lenovo cutting orders, Intel is under strong pressure to stay competitive in the market.

Intel's mobile communication business lost over US$10 billion in the past three years and despite a merger with its PC Client Group, adjustments in business structure and marketing subsidies, the business is still suffering from losses.

Although Intel has been cooperating with first-tier smartphone vendors to develop products using its platform, Asustek and Lenovo are the only two players with large orders and Asustek is the largest client of Intel.

Asustek shipped about 20 million smartphones in 2015 and Intel-based models accounted for around 30% of the volume. The percentage is expected to drop further to below 20% in 2016 as Asustek's smartphone shipments are expected to reach 25 million units.

Within Asustek's upcoming ZenFone 3 series, which will be released in June, only 15% of the shipments will use Intel's platform.

The sources believe Asustek's order cut is because of Intel's delay on its 4G SoFIA LTE chip launch. With 4G smartphone becoming the trend of the market, Asustek cannot afford the risks brought by Intel's delay and therefore has gradually increased its orders from Qualcomm and MediaTek.

Too bad, Intel needs Broxton yesterday.

On a more positive note, this looks like a great deal, even though it is from Walmart:

nextbook 2 in 1

Have to order online, but for the price of the Winbook tablets Microcenter used to carry, you get a keyboard too.

NOTE: Virtual Larry, this has you name written all over it!!!!!!!

Err, no? Not a fan of those "2-in-1" tablet + keyboard thingies.

Besides, I've already got a multitude of 7" Win8.1 tablets.

Yea, I was mostly just kidding you. I know you have several of the cheap windows tablets. Curious though, why dont you like the 2 in 1 combinations? I would not pay a lot for the atom ones, but the one from Walmart, I view it as a tablet just with a free keyboard. Doesnt cost any more than the Winbook tablets. Only negative I see is that the tablet is 8.9 inches, getting close to being too big to hold in one hand.

That's my primary problem with them. A 7" tablet, I can comfortably hold in one hand, while operating the touch-screen with the other.

A laptop is rigid enough, that I can rest it on my stomach, when I'm in bed.

I don't see these 2-in-1s fitting into either category.

Edit: I paid $60 + tax for my Winbook TW700 (701?) units.

So many nice and cheap Bay Trail / Cherry Trail devices - yet an ancient Clover Trail based Dell Venue 8 running Android 4.2 is the best-selling x86 tablet at Amazon. Yikes.

Those convertible and 2-in-1 laptops comes in handy at times, such as putting the screen in front rather than the keyboard in front when you want to watch a video or Netflix while in bed or sitting on the couch or even waiting for your plane to arrive at the airport. My wife uses her 2-in-1 that way.

So not a word about the CPU speedup we could expect? The disbeliever in me tends to think this means it will be disappointing.

Can't believe Apollo Lake is delayed into 2H 2016. This was originally supposed to come in 2H 2015. Very poor execution from Intel.

Oh good, further corners for OEMs to cut. Be still my beating heart.

This is why the contra-revenue was needed with Bay Trail in tablets...lots of corners that they needed to cut in the platform cost that they hadn't done. The mobile guys had it figured out a while ago, out of necessity

Intel Atom 'Broxton' - Geekbench & GFXBench: First Results

Some early Broxton results, after such a long wait. The chip is being recognized as a 2.3GHz Pentium II/III by Geekbench. Assuming 2.3 GHz clockspeed I find the results rather promissing. Not on the same level as high-end ARM SoCs, but already >30% faster than an average Atom x7-Z8700 (not bad for an ES):

- Geekbench 3
Single-core: 1301
Multi-core: 4385

https://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench3/6034406

*Faster than most AMD A8-7410 (fastest Carrizo-L, 2.2-2.5 GHz, 15W TDP) devices out there.
*Highest score for Stoney Ridge ES (6W TDP?) = 1480 ST / 2417 MT.

- GFXBench
Car Chase Onscreen: 35.7 FPS

Ok. That is what I waited a lot.

Finally seems that Apollo Lake is getting the performance of Core 2 Conroe. If that is true, seems that ARM will make their massive improvements because Intel is catching up.

BTW.. Stoney Ridge is a Dual Core. And ST wise defeats the Apollo Lake.

Well it's not bad for sure, against one of the best x7-Z8700 results:
http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench3/compare/2517688?baseline=6034406

For fun, against a Kabylake at similar clockspeed:
https://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench3/compare/6044389?baseline=6034406

Looks like SHA is finally implemented in hardware (7x score...), AES and many other floating point subtest are up 1.5-2x too.

Memory is awful but that is 100% single channel and low speed, LP-DDR4 should help there

The "core" jump of the atom line?

Errr... Is still DDR3 and LPDDR4 is not as strong than DDR4.
The difference is still massive then... Poor Atom team... Core team is catching in that area too and it will be too late for them.
