This Dell seems like a very interesting alternative to a $499 Surface RT 2.
9 (tablet) + 10 (keyboard dock) hours of battery.
If M$ doesnt give us a x86 Surface (non Pro), others will do.

Codename: Midland
Platform: Intel Atom "Bay Trail"
Screen: 10.8-inch, 1920 x 1080
Battery: 9 hours, replaceable battery
Weight: 1.65 pounds
Thickness: .4 inches
Price: $399
Key features: Optimized for 4G connectivity, HD with touch screen and pen, great accessories.
Peripherals: Pen, touch keyboard, travel keyboard with 10 hour battery, productivity dock.

@mikk - airmont comes out end of Q3. thats almost 6 months

@sweepr - there is rumor that MS is making a 8 inch surface RT device. if that happens, that will take the shine out of these tablets

An A4 5000 scores 16.8k on Physics, basically there's no way an A6 1450 clocked at 1GHz (max Turbo 1.4GHz) does 17k.

2 scenarios either that chart is wrong or the results are wrong.
will search for evidence.

What does it mean? Jaguar+ competes with a 14nm product.

Temash launched months before bay trail. But it didn't mean they got ahead in design wins.

People are still pointing to future temash tablets in this thread.

Windows RT? You're joking, right? I don't care if those things cost 200$, they're not worth it because Windows RT is worthless and completely lacks any software ecosystem. It is a far cry from Windows 7/8/8.1 which has all of the software in the world, more than android and iOS combined.

Complicating this is the fact that MS wants to sell these devices at 499$ all while Windows 8.1 tablets are "overlapping" at a 300$-400$ price-point. Many of these 300$ windows 8.1 tablets have full HD screens while the original Surface RT was what? 1200*800? Yeah. This is why Windows RT will not and never will gain traction. I would love to sit in on a business meeting at MS regarding RT, I have no idea what the heck they're thinking with it.

Physics != overall score

I repeat me:

Available half a year later as usual when Airmont is around the corner.

Physics in 3dmark is a CPU bound test. With that being the case there is no chance that an A4-1200 (which still has higher power consumption than BT-T) would score more than 1/3rd of what the BT-T does.

A dual core 1200? Haven't tests already shown the 1250 being 1/3rd of the physics and CPU speed of the Bay Trail-T? We don't have 1200 results but the 1250 was far outperformed in that specific test, IIRC - which as I said, is mostly a CPU test.

Am I missing something here? Are we talking over-all score or just physics? The 1200 has no chance in the physics test. It may be competitive in the graphical portions, I don't know.

@blackened23 - if a mini surface comes out, it will cost around $300. MS will try to compete with ipad mini. I would never buy RT but people going into best buys dont know the difference. MS is actually taking out the RT name for upcoming surface tablets. they will throw a lot more into markerting than any other OEM

please read sir, no one is arguing about a4-1200 cpu v. z3770 cpu. The argument has shifted to the gpu.
here are some ice storm numbers...
http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=35489485&postcount=505

you will notice that this brand new chip cant beat the 40nm, 3yo amd c-50 in gpu perf. so the a4-1200 wiil beat it as well.

Do you ever used a Brazos to have any experiece of what happens in a low bandwidth, low cpu enviroment? If not, you have no idea of what you are talking about.

Yes, the IGP is better, we get it, but that does not mean anything if it cant use it to its full potential, very few games will be not cpu and/or memory bound on Temash.

Which makes Kabini/Temash the king of budget thin and light notebook gaming... and that's a pretty narrow market.

Go up to larger notebooks and you're better off getting previous generation models with an actual CPU and discrete graphics. Go down to tablets and even if they were acceptable SoCs for that use Baytrail would still be the better choice because it can play any tablet game currently out there no problem while using less power.

Intel may not have leadership GPU performance in the intended market, but tablet games aren't likely to catch up to even fully utilizing Baytrail's graphics before the 14nm refresh anyway.

things I have learned from apple [a6x]:
make trends
gpu is king, more performance the better
cpus need just enough performance
platform power may be high so let's us a BIG battery

things I learned from nvida [tegra 3]
cpu is king, lets throw 4 of them at the problem
gpu is adequate for "mobile gaming"
platform power is low so oems throw in small batteries

follow apple's suit or go the nvidia[and the intel route]?

A6-1450 can barely beat the Z3770 in GLBench which means A4-1200 is far below this. What does it mean? You cannot draw anything based one just one synthetic benchmark.

Because Bay Trail is replacing Pentiums and Celerons that are already counting for most of those 140 design wins.

There's no way they'll get anything near that in tablets or phones.

Do you have a reference for that? Most of the announced products seem to be tablets. I think Intel has said that Bay Trail is for tablets and above, and Merrifield is for phones. I don't see what phones have to do with Bay Trail.

Yeah but E-350 level of performance is not enoght, thats the part that you are missing, certanly dual cores Temash will be not enoght, question remains if quad core Temash will be enoght.
Yet still, the Kabini/Temash IGP are not much good either, they are getting beaten by HD4000 on ULV cpus... hell even the HD3000 can beat it, with that in mind do not be suprised if the Haswell-Y will be abe to outperform both of them.

One thing i'm surprised no one has mentioned is the huge disconnect between baytrail and ivy bridge.

The scaling for something with 4x the number of EUs operating 20-40% faster (probably at 900-1000 mhz given that the cpu isn't really stressed here) is terrible. If you compare to haswell its even worse.

(I think intel needs another massive driver release for haswell)

not quite, ivy-y [ i3-3229y ] icestorm results are around a6-1450 and at higher power consumption. hell even the cpu perf is competitive because ivy-y has no turbo to beat the benchmarks.

secondly what is good enough? e-350? a6-1450? a4-5000? a6-4455m? a8-4555m? a10-4655m?
