First Baytrail-M ‘Netbooks’ Spotted

Two laptops running Celeron-branded Baytrail-M processors have been spotted for sale in Germany. The Toshiba Satellite NB10t runs the 2.0Ghz dual-core N2810 (7.7W TDP) while the Packard Bell Easy Note ME69 runs with a cheaper 1.4Ghz dual-core N2805 (4.5W TDP.) Prices are interesting, especially considering they have touchscreens ...

HotHardware ASUS T100 Review

http://hothardware.com/Reviews/Netbook-Evolved-ASUS-Transformer-Book-Windows-8-Hybrid

Battery life on the Bay Trail system was excellent. I tested the tablet with a high-quality Blu-ray rip of the 2009 movie Star Trek. The film encode was done in MPEG-4 High@L4.0 with a 6.77GB encoded file (7.6MBps overall bit rate). In other words, I picked an image quality and file size that would give the chip a workout.

The result was just over 11 hours worth of battery life -- enough to loop the movie more than five times. No doubt, impressive results.

I'll pick another quote from that Joel Hruska review, that summarizes what I think of BT:
"Good, not great," theme we've seen from Bay Trail.

It also looks like the graphics drivers are bad, well it's Intel, some things come for granted. I hope the Linux drivers are better.

Yep, now we are up to 24 Bay Trail.

I just wonder if that number will keep increasing in the next month or so. Or is Intel all done with releases for Q4?
I guess they can output as many as they want, I bet all the dies are the same (except perhaps they really have 2C vs 4C variants? That's not even sure.). The difference is binning, castration and packaging

Yet the drivers are vastly better than IMG graphics that are in quite a number of high end arm devices.

Definitely, but we are talking about what people consider as a PC in a tablet form not a consumption device.

Interestingly it seems the Intel OpenGL Windows driver is considered as good:http://dolphin-emu.org**************26/dolphin-emulator-and-opengl-drivers-hall-fameshame/

EDIT: for some reason the link is changed no matter whether I use the url tag or not. Google "dolphin opengl" and find "Dolphin Emulaor and OpenGL drivers - Hall of Fame/Shame.

Thanks for posting.
10,7% (CPU) and 13,1% (GPU) higher clocks in less than two months - J2900 vs J2850 (same 10W TDP). Will they hit 3GHz max Turbo by the time Cherry Trail arrives next year?

Dell Venue 8 Pro is on sale for 259.99 (40.00 off) at my local Microcenter. They have them in stock at the moment also. I want one, but my wife's laptop is dying and I just got a new desktop, so really cant at the moment.

Wonder if she would notice if I threw away my POS 7 inch acer android tablet and replaced it with one?

Not trying to derail the thread but is 32gb enough for windows 8.1? I would want 5 or so GB permanently free (I assume like ssds you don't want to fill them up to capacity keeping about 20% free for best performance.) And you simply don't get this to my understanding with a 32gb emmc.

um, replace her laptop with this dell venue 8 pro.... unless you don't really care about her

Naw, I was just kidding of course. She plays some online city building browser game that has a lot of players online at the same time, so she needs a full power mobile laptop. She plays the game on my desktop with a SB i5, and with 2 instances of the game open, cpu usage is about 50 percent on all four cores of an i5 2320. Anything atom or kabini I dont think would have the chops for what she does.

I will probably get her an i3 or i5 from microcenter that still has win 7. As much as I hate win 8 for the desktop, teaching her to use it would be even worse.

Would be good to see some Bay Trail under this program:

T-Mobile’s Next Act: 200MB Free Data Monthly for Tablets, Plus Trade-In Program

October 23, 2013 a

In its latest move to be the “Uncarrier,” T-Mobile today announced new plans for tablets that include a free monthly allotment of 4G LTE data for the life of the product, and the option to purchase a new device in monthly installments with no money down, including the iPad Air and Nexus 7.

iPad_mini_retina

Calling it “Tablets Un-leashed,” the company said that customers who buy a tablet through T-Mobile will receive 200 megabytes of free 4G LTE data every month for as long as they own the tablet. The program is open to anyone with a T-Mobile-compatible tablet, even if you’re not a T-Mobile customer.

But, unlike its smartphone plans where the carrier slows down data speeds once you’ve hit your limit, the data connection will be cut off on tablets if you blow through the 200MB before the end of the month.

T-Mobile said that once that happens, a screen will pop up asking you if you’d like to purchase one of T-Mobile’s daily, weekly or monthly passes, or you can continue to use the tablet over Wi-Fi and wait till the next month for the data to kick in again. Pricing starts at $5 for a daily pass for 500MB of 4G LTE data, and $10 for a weekly pass of one gigabyte of 4G LTE data. Those with a T-Mobile voice plan have the option of 500MB of 4G data for $10 a month.

During a conference call, T-Mobile CEO John Legere noted that about 90 percent of consumers are using tablets over Wi-Fi and that’s largely due to the high prices of current data plans.

“We believe it’s time that tablets operated the same way that smartphones do, and should be connected all the time,” said Legere. “We’ve been waiting for a while to get in this game and stop this silliness of restricted and unclear data plans offered by the other carriers.”

To help entice customers, T-Mobile is offering a number of its tablets for $0 upfront, with the cost of the device spread out over two years. With this offer, a customer can buy the new iPad Air (16GB) for 24 equal monthly payments of $26.25, while the iPad mini with Retina display costs $22.07 per month over two years. The Google Nexus 7 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 are some of the other tablets being offered in this introductory deal.

T-Mobile didn’t say how long this deal would last, but hinted that it would continue to offer some of its tablets for $0 upfront.

Finally, T-Mobile also announced a new trade-in program under which anyone can bring in a tablet in working condition to receive a discount on a new device.

Some more info: http://www.t-mobile.com/landing/bring-your-own-tablet.html

Bring a tablet you already own to T-Mobile and get 200 MB FREE data every month. Simply activate a Mobile Internet account. No annual service contract.

Based on that I hope we see a good amount of affordable Intel tablets that go beyond "Wifi Only".

If the Bay Trail Tablet/Laptop pickings are slim for 4G, then I will keep my eye out for Merrifield.
