AMD's Temash (2 core edition) is aimed at tablets. Problem is, it ain't getting any design wins ;-)

Temash is not just 2 core, it is also 4 core- unfortunately, it seems to just be binned Kabini dies.

Good luck fitting that 8W power sucker into a "tablet"

It's not just aimed at tablets; that part has shown up in several thin-and-light (ultrabook style) laptops. It's still Temash though.

And besides, have you seen the TDP of the parts Intel is trying to shove into its Haswell tablets?

So now TDP matters, heh. So convinient.

+1 to the petition from the poster above.

FTFY, the surface has a power guzzling i5...

I don't know why Microsoft went with a 15W part for its Surface Pro 2. The 6W SDP Haswell parts work very well in the Vaio Tap 11. Still not fanless, but it works out well, particularly given Haswell's aggressive power management.

A6-1450 has a tdp of 8-15W and AMD did mention a 3W SDP for the non-turbo version of the a6-1450, the a4-1350...so I am guessing the around 6W SDP for the a6...or something like that.

Outrageous price? Limited availability? Intel prioritizing others due to MS bad behavior with RT?

MSFT could have bought a nice, inexpensive Bay Trail.

But they're still doing the RT thing themselves with Tegra 4. That sells for $450, Pro sells for $850. This would have to sell for something in between, I guess. With Pro they can try to justify the very high price by saying it's a premium product with certain high end features. That reasoning doesn't scale so well.

yes but how can they possibly get away with that if their OEM partners are putting out comparable baytrail tablets for the same price of surface or less. it makes zero sense what msft is doing

Guys lets keep it relevant. AMD is irrelevant in tablets and always has been. They've made zero effort to change that and their chips are proof of it.

Intel needs to beat Apple at $500. They couldn't beat Apple in ultrabooks and they have even less chance with these tablets. Basically, zero chance at all.

At $300 they need to have a lot better than what they are showing. There are just too many taxes on that. Intel wants there piece of it, MS wants their piece of it, Dell wants their piece of it. That's why a $150 tablet ends up at $300. The difference this time is, nobody will pay it. Even business customers who would live and die by Dell have already moved well past this.

MSI thinks otherwise...

Tests show that the MSI W20's battery can last up to nine hours when reading ebooks or performing word processing, six when watching 1080P HD videos.

  • Windows 8
  • AMD Dual-core A4 A-Series Processor
  • Excellent AMD Radeon™ HD 8180 graphics card performance
  • 11.6" IPS HD (1366x768) with 10-point multi-touch for easy reading and enhanced performance
  • Ultra long-distance Wi-Fi connection lets you go online anytime, anywhere
  • mSATA SSD for faster read-write and accessing
  • Fingerprint sensor protects information with business-class security

Apple buys loads of i5's and i7's for their Macbook Airs. What exactly is Intel trying to beat with Ultrabooks? Hint: It's not the MBA.

Netbooks? Chromebooks? I can't think of anything else that has the word "book" in it. :awe:

I wish they would have, but that would be acknowledging the death of RT. It seems they want to beat that dead horse for another round.
I think RT is the direction MS want to go completely, they want to merge mobile and tablet OS together first and make "Windows Store" the future... with as many people making apps for RT as possible before they pull the desktop completely in Windows 9 or 10. At that point you'll need an emulator like "Windows Wine" to run legacy Windows apps/games on any platform. Just my guess.

I am sure you stole that reasoning from valve, joking aside, this seems entirely plausible...instead of facing the critiques head first, they took the route only a large, yet slow tech company would by doing it in drawn out steps.

My biggest question about Bay Trail in something like the Asus T100 is how it will play games. If it can handle games like Torchlight/Trine/Mark of the Ninja with an acceptable framerate I will be very happy.

Won't happen due to business customers. Don't kid yourself, MS makes a ton of money of them and they absolutely require backwards compatibility. Heck we were forced on win 7 32-bit due to existing 16-bit legacy apps. Thats is just the reality.
