My guess is that Quark will replace Atom on 15" laptops once OEMs realize they can save $3 using Quark on $400-450 laptops.
LOOOOL

That sounds posible knowing the companies... but since it has not GPU, they will stick with any Atom X3

Today i had a X3 C3130 on my hands in form of a crapblet, 4gb/512/1024x600, and its reemplacing price/features the crapblets using dual/quad A7, it feels faster than A7s when i attempted to use it.

Someone knows if those things can be modded to run Windows/Linux?

Is x86?
If that so, you can.

I think Windows is not possible because of the Mali GPU. It will be interesting to see if Linux would be able to boot.

If i remember correctly SoFIA was basically an ARM SoC with x86 cores, like what the Dr.Frankenstein did but with a SoC

Thanks god because thats keeps OEM out of it.

It whould be interesting to know if another OS can be loaded.

Don't wait too much. OEM's eventually will make the Mali GPU becomes recognized by Windows. Just look at Windows 10 Mobile

well technically the latest mali gpus support directx so it's "only" a matter of drivers.

oems will never make them tho, it would be up to ARM itself to provide x86 windows drivers, and i don't see ARM interested in going that route just to help push a competitor's product

all in all, it's possible but really unlikely

Mali 400 and 450 does not support DX, but Mali T720 does. So only the X3 C3440 could in teory be used for x86 Windows, as for drivers, im petty sure its already done for ARM Windows.

Ok... if that is posible... expect Windows on Atom X3...

Petty sure a Celeron N3050 will cost about the same than a X3 C3440, also the C3440 has no SATA controller, so they cant use the 5400rpm hard disks they love so much. Buuuuuut unfortunately we may see some X3 C3440 devices as "Cloudbooks"... it will depend if intels order someone to do the x86 T720 driver, well, at least the C3440 is no so bad, quad core 1.4ghz will be around of what Z3735G used to perform, and... its the only option for them to offer a cloudbook with a modem... oh sh**.

So.. you realized it, no?
Yeah... also they won't need SATA, with Flash memory is OK

why cinebench R11.5 perf is so bad on the new cherry trail atom compared to atom Z37xx serie ? it's still a quad with more or less same mhz...

edit : seems like tdp throttling by manufacturer

Nope... Intel tried to imitate AMD Mullins and failed very hard. They improved GPU, but failed to improve CPU. And even more, they nerfed CPU performance to the point that Bay Trail and even Mullins are better.

That's why there aren't so much.models compared to BT

Some new Cherry Trail and Braswell designs:

Surprisingly Atom x5-Z8500 is pretty darn close to x7-Z8700 performance, even the iGPU (despite packing 12 EUs).

After Avoton comes Denverton:

Some details of Intel "Denverton" SoCs for microservers

Next year, Atom C2000-series is going to be replaced with Harrisonville Platform and the next generation Atom SoCs, codenamed Denverton and Denverton-NS. These processors will be manufactured on 14nm technology and will use C3xxx model numbers.
Besides smaller manufacturing process, C3000-series SoCs will boast quite a few enhancements over their predecessors. Similar to Avoton/Rangeley SoCs, Denverton processors will incorporate one or more CPU modules, each of those consisting of two CPU cores with shared second level cache. However, the number of modules will be increased to 8, i.e the number of cores will be increased to 16. The size of shared L2 cache will be also increased, and it will be 2 MB for each pair of cores, or up to 16 MB per chip.

Integrated memory controller will be improved as well, and it will support DDR4 ECC memory with the maximum data rate of 2400 MHz. The maximum amount of supported RAM will be doubled to 128 GB. Some integrated I/O components will be upgraded and offer support for more recent interface specifications. For instance, USB will be updated to support 3.0 specification, and LAN controller will add support for 10Gb Ethernet. C3000-series will have 16 lanes of PCI-Express interface, and will come with Quick Assist Technology. New manageability components on Denverton parts will be Intel Manageability Engine and Innovation Engine.

16 Cores (Next Generation Goldmont?), 16MB L3, up to 128GB DDR4-2400 ECC.

If Goldmont is 16 core and is the double of Avoton... Expect the Atom X5, and X7 getting more cores.... X5 hexa core and X7 Octa
