N4200 base freq is 1.10ghz. that is lower than base braswell. T5700 clocks seem more realistic. i actually think they can do better.
I expect these chips to sustain turbo through a run of GBv4 ST. N4200 turbo is 2.5 Ghz while T5700 is 2.4 Ghz.

ASUS Intel Celeron Quad-Core SoC fanless MicroATX Motherboard (J3455M-E)

Edit: Dangit. I REALLY want to play with these new Goldmont cores, and get a "feel" for their performance. But ideally, I want another Brix unit, and not just some random (OK, maybe not random, it's an Asus) micro-ATX mobo, which requires an entire desktop box to put it into.

Are these cpus finally faster than core 2 duos yet? atoms have always been garbage as desktops and laptops- barely usable in light workloads.

If you look outside of geekbench, and it's HWA , the answer is most likely no.. Getting close though (clock/clock.

As I said earlier, for general purpose/ Int code, IPC - you're looking somewhere between Pentium M and C2D. for AMD comparison - somewhere between Jaguar and K10.5

Is is a concern of anyone else, that these SoCs apparently support dual-channel RAM, but are STILL limited to 8GB total RAM? They make 8GB DDR3L DIMMs, why wouldn't I want to use two of them in these boxes? Why would you limit yourself to 8GB of RAM in this day and age? Damn Intel and their "planned obsolecence"... these are like the GTX1060 3GB version of their SoCs.

http://www.fanlesstech.com/2016/10/gigabyte-apollo-lake-brix.html

https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/J3455M-E/specifications/

According to Asus's specs, their micro-ATX board with two DDR3/DDR3L DIMM slots, can take up to 16GB. So, is Intel lying on ARK? Or is Asus? Or am I confusing the "N" versus "J" models?

So are the J3455, N4200, and T5700 all in the same line of processors? Apollo Lake = Goldmont? Intel's Atom nomenclature is a trainwreck.
Yeah, it looks like as if Intel is trying to mislead people on purpose

Your best bet is to use ark.intel.com and various presentations found on the web.

Apollo lake is indeed using Goldmont. You'll find a list here: http://ark.intel.com/products/codename/80644/Apollo-Lake#@All It lists J3455 and N4200.

For T5700, you have to find presentations issued from Intel IDF 2016 from last August. This for instance: http://www.cnx-software.com/2016/08...essors-architecture-and-estimated-benchmarks/ Again it's Goldmont.

Seems that Intel is killing off Atom... so bad from them... they killed the Phone processor variant first thanks to that abomination called SoFIA (that undid the success of Moorefield). And now they are killing the Tablet one with this... The hell Intel!

Most annoyingly, I can't seem to buy one of these in a Mini-ITX format. Why only Micro-ATX? Not even the top SKU at that?

I just want a cheap Pentium J4205 fanless ITX setup. Too much to ask for?

Yep, the Asrock J4205-ITX and the lower end J3355 and J3455 models are available now. Some people have received theirs already. I'm a bit tempted to buy the J4205-ITX for a project I'm doing, but haven't pressed the button yet...

Please do. And run some tests for us.
Yeah, I probably would if the damn thing wasn't so expensive. 168 USD currently, including VAT. The Celeon J3355 version is much cheaper, but I think quadcore is the way to go. I'm hoping more retailers will stock them soon, so the price goes down.

So... I ordered the Asrock J4205-ITX! I don't expect delivery until the end of next week. I plan on using this as a dedicated emulation machine running Ubuntu + RetroArch, but I can put Windows on it first to run some benchmarks. Unfortunately, I don't have any BayTrail/CherryTrail devices on hand for comparison, but maybe someone else can help out there? If you have any suggestions for benchmarks, please let me know.

I'll be running this board with 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3L 1866MHz 10-10-10-32. 1866MHz is the fastest memory the board allows and this is the best kit I could find here.

Thanks for ordering the Asrock J4205-ITX. I'd be interested in the Geekbench results. For an open source benchmark software maybe sysbench*. Yesterday I benchmarked my BayTrail DN2820FYK NUC with latest installed ArchLinux updates: https://browser.primatelabs.com/v4/cpu/929900. Wondering what's with that Multi-Core Score ? After quite some time of usage I can tell this BayTrail NUC is just painfully slow as a desktop PC use-case. I'm planning to maybe replace the NUC with the J4205-ITX, if the following bug doesn't appear with it: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109051. Yes, this ITX is bigger than the NUC, but for the price, that's ok, as this ITX case is still rather small: InterTech E-3002.
* For CPU: sysbench --num-threads=4 --test=cpu --cpu-max-prime=20000 --validate run

Congrats on your purchase. I think Pentium N3700/N3710 comparisons would be appropriate, so these are my suggestions (based on reviews):

- Cinebench 11.5 ST, MT and OpenGL
- Cinebench R15 ST, MT and OpenGL
- PCMark 7
- PCMark 8 Home
- X264 HD Benchmark - Pass 1 / Pass 2
- 3DMark 11 or 3DMark Fire Strike
- GFXBench T-Rex and Manhattan Offscreen

As expected... ARM A72 levels.... and if this could get undervolted and underclocked, it would reach A57 levels without any of the heating problems from it. Ideal for Mid Range phones.
You can't compare architectures based on just raw numbers of a benchmark. Power consumption, area, ipc... are things to take in mind.
