The extremely overweight lady in our office just had back surgery. Seeing the way she took care of herself, I can't say I feel sorry for her.

I know for some obese people, their metabolism isn't that great, but couldn't they PLEASE, PLEASE at least TRY to diet, if only for their own sakes? <sigh>

1 hour @ the gym, 4 times a week + no fast food = stay in shape.

easy. if they don't have 4 hours/week for their own sake, they deserve to be fat and made fun of.

Just got to deal with it, people won't be getting thinner anytime soon. At least it's not you. If you have a few pounds to lose, use her example as motivation.

Well, it's not so much fast food as it is the type of fast food and the frequncy you eat it.

But yeah, basically that's the ticket. CLEAN your diet, don;t restrict calories for dieting and exercise regularly.

Dieting is not the answer, and that is why obese people can't lose the weight. Resistance training and excercise are significantly more important than dieting when it comes to losing weight. Obese people usually hate to excercise.

BINGO!

Calorie restrictive dieting is counter productive, and a major contributer to the numbers of morbidly obese in our soceity.

Millions of years of evolution cannot be overcome with "willpower." The body will fight to it's last breath any perceived starvation and loss of it's fat cells to calorie deprivation.

I notice many many more people using those electric wheelchairs then ever before. Maybe if they get their fat asses out of the electric wheelchair and did some walking they wouldn't be so freaking huge!

There is certainly some merit in calorie "restricting". If your body only needs 2500 calories to sustain basic metabolic needs, then you don't need to be cramming 3500 calories down your throat every day.

I don't believe this at all.
The bottom line is that it's ignorance, but mainly a lack of willpower and resolve that causes people to get obese.
I lost ~40lbs by restricting calories, and I went from chubby to a low BF%, because I am determined to not be fat, because I hate it.

Now to the OP... If people don't mind or enjoy being fat, then that's awesome. It would be nice to eat whatever i want and not be dissapointed in myself when I look in a mirror.

Too bad the scientific evidence is against you. People who go on crash diets nearly always gain back MORE then they started out with if they ever stop the diet. And to maintain the weight they have dieted down to requires eating a severely restrictive diet for the rest of their lives because their body has learned how to store fat more efficiently for the next starvation cycle.

Some obese people need to restrict calories down to a ridiculously low level to lose any weight at all. And when they do, their mind literally drives them crazy. Your body has a very strong built in defense against starvation.

Soo, in otherwords, people should do some RESEARCH and get some scientific FACTS before they consult their fat friend Susie at work who tells them about the new diet-fad-crash-starve-yourself-eat-lotsa-meat-but-no-bread thing.

Big fvcking placebo.

While I agree starvation dieting is the wrong approach, I believe a proper diet AND exercise can help 90+% of the overweight people out there. The problem is that a lot of people don't have the self-discipline to exercise and diet, and therefore have to restrict their calories to an insanely low level to lose weight, which causes the problems you listed. Exercising and dieting lets your body still have a normal intake of calories and lose weight in a healthy manner.

starving oneself not calorie restrictive dieting is dangerous? it is probably the safest and most effective way to lose weight along with exercise.

I pretty much agree with you. But focusing on calorie restriction rather than simply cleaning up one's diet is the main problem. Exercise is the key, but so is a sensible diet focused on healthy food rather than calorie restriction.
