Remember this was the actions of one man and a few accomplices, not a wide ranging conspiracy. We can't allow what Smollett did to lessen our compassion and our demands for justice for the actual victims of racism.I've just read somewhere that he gets paid $65,000 per episode of "Empire" show by Fox, and the show typically airs 18 episodes a year. That amounts to $1.17 M annual income for this dude just from the show. And as an actor I would assume he could make more via endorsements, speeches, or even appearances. I am not saying he would not have grievance if he had actually been assaulted. But making false accusation of such kind and magnitude is different because it presupposes that he is aware of the social and historical struggle of those victim groups, and that their financial suffering is a big part of it.
I hope he gets the maximum sentence the law allows for the kind of crime he committed and then some. This is an opposite of hate crime in that his lies give rise to justifiable suspicion to future actual victims and on top of that he brought disrepute to the social movements that so many have fought for in so many ways. And he should serve as a warning for potential future drama queens who dare think about using their imagined victimhood status to gain personal advantage.
Regardless of what Smollett did, it's on us if we decide this incident is reason to disbelieve the claims of hate crime victims going forward. Every report of such an attack needs to be fully investigated as the CPD did in this case. Kudos to them for handling this thoroughly and professionally to get to the truth, both before and after Smollett's story started sounding fishy.
I would hope both sides can at least agree on that.

There is not a single scrap of evidence that Zimmerman is a racist and a preponderance of evidence the he is not. He was raised with two black children. He invited black people to stay in his home. His black neighbors said he was the only neighbor to introduce himself. His black coworkers have come out to say he doesn’t but have a racist bone in his body. He campaigned against the Sanford police department until they brought charges on the police chief’s son for mistreating a black homeless man. He’s even a minority’s himself.

Next, I said he made it home before going back to confront Zimmerman. The timeline shows plenty of time to travel home and back and his girlfriend, Jeantel, testified in court that Trayvon went home first. If you can’t be bothered to find and read the transcripts, here is one relevant part:
WEST: Right. At that point he [Trayvon] decided to approach this man and say, why are you following me?
JEANTEL: Yes, sir.
WEST: And he could have just run home if he wasn't there.
JEANTEL: He was already by his house. He told me.
Trayvon made it home then went back to confront Zimmerman. This is 100% in-line with the 911 call where Zimmerman loses sight and complies they tell him they don’t need him to follow. Listen to the call or read the transcripts yourself. You can even hear his breathing and the wind change as he stops running/trying to keep up.
Next, I said that Zimmerman was on the ground having his head bashed into the sidewalk. Multiple witnesses reported seeing this, though only John Good and Zimmerman himself was able to say who was on top.
Again, you don’t have to believe either of them, since the physical evidence says the same thing. Zimmerman’s bloody lacerations, the grass stains, the blows to his face, the place Trayvon’s body fell back to, etc.

One common misconception is that the police told Zimmerman not to follow and that he ignored their direct order. In reality, he immediately stopped pursuing Trayvon even though they did not order him to stop and it was 911 dispatch (not the same). Though 911 dispatch/operators are often police, they are not assumed to be. If they tell you not to do something it does not carry the same weight as a uniformed police officer giving you an order. Their actual words were “we don’t need you to do that,” which isn’t at all the same as saying “stop” or “don’t do that.” It’s to limit their liabilities so you can’t sue them if you get hurt (you can’t claim that they needed/encouraged you to put yourself at risk).

The Facebook messages, Gmail, etc accounts were obtained by white supremacist hacker “klanklannon” and posted with the password to 4chan, but the thread is gone. He also posted to a white supremacist forum I’d rather not link to. Luckily, it’s confirmed and well-reported in other media. Some, like Gawker, even used the public passwords provided by the hacker to log themselves in.
