Why does that matter? There is great disparity across the justice system as it relates to punishment and crime, and the nature of their crimes are very different.WHO GETS MORE PRISON TIME:
PAUL MANAFORT (47 months)
vs
JESSE SMOLETT
???
Because it undermines faith in the justice system. But other than that there is no reason to discuss it.Why does that matter? There is great disparity across the justice system as it relates to punishment and crime, and the nature of their crimes are very different.
There is no quantifiable scale when it comes to justice, its all subjective. Such comparisons have nothing to do with faith in justice, its politicizing the justice system to reflect the biases you project onto it.Because it undermines faith in the justice system. Damn. He won’t get that though. 6 months or something probably
Facing up to 48 YEARS...
The charges carry a maximum sentence of up to 48 years. On the plus side, he won't see such a stupid result. However, it begs the question: what is an appropriate sentencing for this case?

This is why I proposed 2 years for each count. Let the defense come back with 6 months each. This assumes he pleads (which he better - or else face the mountain of evidence including two witnesses).
Be out in 6-7 years.
If they go light ... expect copycats to point to Jussie for leniency. There will not and cannot be leniency.
I appreciate your acknowledging that the broader topic is unrelated. My grandparents were the brown people of their immigration wave, and they held quite a bit of animosity towards the justice of our society, but it is impossible to attribute inequity to only one thing. The disparity that was written into law for drug crimes committed by African Americans vs those committed primarily by whites would say otherwise. I am not going to derail this thread further but yes such comparisons do have much to do with faith in the justice system. If people believe the outcomes are unjust and disproportionate then that faith is undermined. Minorities in this country are much more familiar with that you or I likely are.
He already pleaded not guilty, no?
This seems sensible to me. 48 years is insane.Imagine if the police had reason, right or wrong, to suspect a person of having carried out the attack.
Would Smollett have said it was not him?
Would Smollett have confessed to free an innocent person?
The false allegation was not of something minor. It was a media circus on how horrible America is. For that to have happened to him. A hate crime.
To plan out and fake something of that magnitude, demands a year or two in prison. But 3-5 seems a bit steep, how much would an actual suspect have gotten?
Ha has, he was removed from his show and his character has been written out for good. I hope he gets slammed big time, not only did he waste significant police resources anyone who sufferes a real attack of this sort will have a much harder time getting taken seriously. How has this bigot not yet been fired?
Indicted on 16 Felonies.
I hope that is enough to put him in the slammer for a few years, but something tells me it's just wishful thinking.

now watch him get more time than Manafort.
How has this bigot not yet been fired?
If that's real...what a maroon!Only Jacob Wohl could look at this whole situation with Jussie and decide he should go for it, too.
