Blame the wife. I can't match for squat. No way on this planet I could envision the cabinets, counters, floors, and wall color.

Looks great. But if you had spend $15 more you could have upgraded the paper towel holder.

I thought the paper towel holder was the centerpiece for the entire kitchen. The one thread that connects the modern kitchen to the home's origins in 1937.

Not my choice. I wanted a free standing one but I was overruled...wedding present...17 years ago....

Told the wife the budget was $12K....yeah right. So the white appliances will be replaced with stainless when they die.

Cool, maybe in another seventy years you can do the bathroom

Nice job.
Did that a few years ago. The 6 gallon/flush toilet had to go. It was also original to the house. The date stamp on the kitchen sink was 5/18/1936. Probably 200lbs.

Thanks.

Great job. You got the kitchen to 2011. Now to get it to 2013 you need a backsplash.

It's so dark and depressing
I actually liked the "before" decor more.

I want to modernize my kitchen, but ultimately I decided it was going to be easier to just build the house I want with the kitchen I want.

Is that cherry?

My favorite kitchen we've built was for a friend in Ebony veneer

That's off the web since I can't find the pictures. Stainless steel countertops and ebony cabinetry looks awesome

What $21K will get you. Didn't realize how bad it looked.
Just prior to the demo. Stripped down to the studs.

Almost done. Still have to paint the back door.

For the ATOT tradesmen....pretty...

Nice kitchen. We're in the process of re-doing our kitchen...but my wife wanted white cabinets...and a gray-ish granite...and she picked a "sea-blue" paint for the walls. I'm not crazy about the paint color...but it's growing on me. (or else I'm just wearing so much of it that it's seeping into my skin)

I KNOW my under-the-sink plumbing ain't gonna be nearly as purdy as yours...I done it myself.

was that $21k including labor and appliances?

Probably. That's a pretty small kitchen but these remodels add up quickly.

We spent about that on our kitchen and we just refaced our cabinets and didn't buy new appliances. Our kitchen is much larger than the OP's though.

x3 on not a fan of dark cabinets

Outside of that, for that price, I'm pretty sure he paid someone to do it all.

Looks nice.

Did you do the work yourself or contract it out?
I wrote the checks. Does that count? I painted and did the trim. Easier on me to let pro's do the work. Helps to have a bro that's plumbing since Moses was a baby. "Who does good work?" He has opinions...lots of them.

Took 8 weeks from demo to being able to use it again. Happy about that.

You mean that granite against the wall above the counter?

Still need to get something on the wall behind the stove.

was that $21k including labor and appliances?
Yes on the labor.
$10.3K cabinets. Yes, I freaked out over that but they're top notch.
$800 demo. Labor and dumpster.
$1100 refinish the oak floors.
$1250 sheet rock.
$3200 granite.
$3500 plumbing. The quartz resin sink, 2 faucets and filter kit were $1450 wholesale.
$750 range hood/dishwasher. Sis in law gave us her 1 year old fridge. Same stove/microwave.
$650 for some new wiring/outlets.
Maybe $200 for paint/trim.

Crap...nearly $22K.

Looks great!

Curious why you had your dishwasher tied into the hot water line instead of the cold line.
(as it appears from the pict)

Modern dishwashers have heating elements thus making the use of hot water redundant and a waste of energy.

Papa Smurf. She had me paint that blue in 2001 right before the kid was born. Yuck. That's why I was concerned about letting her coordinate all of the colors but she did a great job.

Bro is 52 and started working for a plumber during the summers when he was 12. Better be purdy and right or he wouldn't be working at my house.

Yep, 10X14 That's $155/sqft. Damn.

Yes.
