I only played for like 3hours and got seriously discouraged after dying like 15 times in the same area with 1 clicker and 5 or so runners. I finally did it but it felt so messy.

I had a tough time in the beginning as well because I was trying to figure out tactics, buttons, and everything else against some long odds early on. It's kind of how the game is though. It routinely puts in you those desperate kind of situations where you might not have enough ammo or supplies to survive a full on encounter. Some of the best encounters in the game were those times when I had next to nothing and had to figure out a way to slip through undetected.

And also, if you're referring to the spot where you're with Tess and Ellie and leave them behind to clear the area below, then yes, that part was a major PITA for me as well. Took me at least five tries before I barely scraped by that area.

I can't wait to get home to play more of it. Humans so far are much different to handle than zombies. Damn those clickers.

I'm sitting here at work and I find myself thinking about this game. The ending really digs deep into your psyche and sticks around. Just thinking about the heartbreaking relationship between the characters really send chills up my spine.

I can't think of any other game that has me as emotionally invested in the story as this. Maybe the last one was Witcher 2.

There are a few points where I died a handful of times to clickers before I just stopped, listened, and figured out where everything was. Even then my execution was sometimes sloppy. Once I started taking a bit more time to get through some of those areas I started having a lot less trouble.

I think clickers always show up when listening (assuming within range), even when they're still and relatively quiet, so you can figure out their patrol patterns and then decide which ones you need to take out and where you might need to distract. Occasionally a quiet runner wouldn't show up when listening, maybe because a window was close by. Line of site seems to mess with it a bit.

Almost to the end, I think. Will probably finish tonight. Don't really want it to end. I read somewhere that you can turn off the listening ability. May try another playthrough like that.

I found the beginning of Winter heartbreaking when I thought Ellie was all alone. Some of you older guys might remember this movie called The Earthling, with Ricky Schroder and William Holden. It totally reminded me of the ending of that movie. It was heartbreaking, but done in a good way. I almost felt emotionally cheated when Joel showed up, but then that was great in its own way. In thinking about it some more, I would want to see Ellie find out the truth. I'm curious how they would do it. I can understand both reactions, so maybe it doesnt matter.

I've been reading people's reaction to the game's ending. At first I thought you, as a player, had a choice in the end to decide to save Ellie or sacrifice her. Ultimately, I'm really glad they went with not giving you a choice, because the ending you get is exactly what a character like Joel would have done, and I would have done the same. I see a lot of response from people complaining about Joel's decision as being selfish, but is it really? I think his decision really adhere's to the themes of the game.

I love the juxtaposition of reclaimed natural beauty versus the ugliness and inhumanity of the survivors. I love questions that are posed by the characters as the game progresses that touch upon themes of survival, morality, and the question of whether humanity is worth saving. The game does a good job at portraying the ugliness of human nature--the selfishness and loss of morality when survival is the only thing left. So really, is humanity worth saving once we get to that point?

I completely see where Joel's decision comes from. The shit that him and Ellie faced as they make their way westward--any goodness that they encounter are quickly snatched from them in such a cruel world.

If you watch the Planet Earth video on Cordaceps that inspired this game, it talks about how the fungus acts as a way to control the population of a certain species when it becomes too over-populated.

yes uncharted 3 is free on PSN+ currently

its like 20+ gigs worth of downloads BTW, takes a bit

It's 40gigs actually, and most of it is crap you don't even need (like huge language packs for languages I don't speak, but didn't get to choose not to download them).

I would have done the same thing as Joel. There was never any choice. I guess I saw it coming very early on. The only question is if Ellie finds out, can she live with it and forgive Joel. Thats a lot of weight to carry around for the rest of your life. I know Joel wont give it another thought, but the ending made me think it might weigh on Ellie. I'm sorta with you...at that point humanity isnt worth saving...just make the most out of the time you have left with the people you care about.

This is what I love about this game. We all see the same ending, but we've each had a unique experience in getting there to the extent that the ending is fairly ambiguous.

My interpretation of the ending is that she understands enough of what happened at the medical center to know he's lying. She realizes waking up in a hospital gown with Joel beating out of town in a vehicle isn't how they'd leave if what he claimed was true. That, to me, was partly why she almost broke out into tears when he swore it was the truth. Along with that she was likely overwrought with emotions in the realization that she was actually ok with it because she'd never had someone care about her the way Joel does.

Yeah, she knew something was up, but they have such a bond now I think he could have told the truth and she would have had the same reaction. As we saw with the cannibals, she's a survivor. The significance of it would be felt over time, like living in the town for awhile and being constantly reminded of how this decision effects other people. But on their own, everything is fine. I think they deserve a little happiness, cause in that world it won't last.

Spoilers about the ending

The ending is great because we all see the different decisions made for why the characters did what they did, but more importantly we understand why they did and can interpret it differently because of that as well.

I really thought Joel or Ellie was going to die. I had it in my head for the last few hours that one of them is going to die. I didn't realize just how attached I became to the characters till that very last playable scene when you are running through the hospital carrying Ellie. I felt frantic and wanted to get her to safety no matter what, it really hit me there.

What Joel did by saving Ellie fits right with his character. But I think what really reinforced it was that earlier in the game (in a recording or something I can't remember where) you find out there were other people immune like Ellie and they were also dissected but no cure was able to be made either though they killed them doing so. This made Joel's decision a lot easier imo since she probably would have died for nothing. Joel had plenty of his own motivation as well obviously.

You know Ellie knows, or at least very much doubts Joel is telling the truth. From the moment she wakes up in the car you can sense doubt from her. Then the last scene when you look at her eyes when Joel says he was telling the truth, her eyes spoke unspeakable volumes, she knew she was being lied too and was ok with it as she had something she never really had, a father, someone that truly cared for her.

Agreed. Unlike most other games out there where they throw in a 'twist' ending just for the sake of it, The Last of Us masterfully built up to it. Even as I was progressing through the game, I caught myself at one point thinking, "why are Joel and Ellie even bother doing this...the cruelty and savagery of the survivors, are these people really humans anymore. I love that scene with the giraffes, as I thought it was that final piece of the puzzle that solidifies the overarching theme of the story.

Bring on the movie, I can see an older, more rugged version of Ryan Gosling playing the part of Joel, and a young Ellen Page as Ellie

Great game so far, and I'm just barely past
Tess' death
. The feeling of desperation that the game gives you is cool, and all the fighting in darkness with your flashlight is pretty awesome. Glad I rebought a PS3
