I just get by with Media Center/Player since I don't listen to music files that often. I listen to far more YouTube videos as a selectable song radio, but when I do use MC/P, I wish their layout was like Winamp.

I really loved Winamp's compact footprint, with everything available on small different windows like the playlist. Media Center looks like a LeapFrog child's toy UI, and having to sort through menus to find something sucks.

That is when it was still good. Then they inevitably started building extra shit into it, got ahead of themselves and figured they had a bright future doing who knows what and went into obscurity. Of course, since anything can play MP3s now it was probably inevitable.

I even made a damn skin for one of the low versions of Winamp. 2.x

I haven't used Winamp in this millennium, though, I don't think.

tbh, I just don't listen to music at my computer anymore (and when I do, I'm usually streaming music videos over youtube). I use Media Monkey to manage my MP3 collection, sync up a playlist with my cellphone, and that's what I listen to in the car or on the subway to work.

I've always used Winamp as a music player, just for its simplicity. The only time I really listen to music on a computer, though, is to give a listen to files that I've downloaded or ripped. I don't use any of the library management, metadata editing or other features. If the company shuts down tomorrow, it will mean little to me. I'll probably continue using it for years.

Yep, same here. I'm still using 5.01 and have been for years and will continue to for years.

Nothing beats Foobar2000. That's the only thing I miss after switching to GNU/Linux. It works in Wine, but that just makes me feel dirty :^D

I liked that interface, small and simple. When it went to whatever that next version was (4.x?) after AOL bought them, I thought it started getting bloated. I use Foobar2000 now.

Well this sucks. I still use winamp on a daily basis, Itunes is a complete piece of shit and I don't even know of another comparable product.

Foobar2000 is what I use at home and work, it simply just works.

Yep. Once they transitioned to the ugly new interface on default install I was like, "Eh." And then it started getting into obscurity anyway. It was going to die based on the model it was built on.

Having an iPhone now almost makes it impossible for me use almost anything but iTunes and be a heavy listener, but I do use Foobar2000 regardless. I just transfer playlists between the two (Which is REALLY buggy for iTunes. It's a POS when reading playlist files.) when I need to... but I don't do it frequently anymore. If I listened to my own collection a ton, I'd probably still use iTunes. I'm mostly a pandora guy now.

That and Pianobar. (cmd line pandora app, uses <5mb of ram versus the 150+ that flash uses in Firefox)

This. Just because they aren't putting out a newer version doesn't mean I'm done using it. WMP is a cesspool of shit that I never, ever found usable.

I used it clear up until I started running my audio via HDMI, and the switch to windows 8. My Marantz doesn't sound as good as my old Echo AudioFire2 and I lost my music database due to HDD failure so I just started using Pandora.

Though I'm thinking of switching back to my good old Audiofire and going back to FLAC with winamp/fubar.

Winamp always sounded great(I always ran it in the 'classic' mode) and you had the power to add custom equalizers and such onto it if you knew how and had the programs.

Ah, I remember that.. from a decade or more ago.

All WMP for me. It recognizes all my files and works. iTunes is shit only because they force you to convert everything to their own file type. They're a great purchasing/retailer/store system though.
