I agree, the US seems to get most of their medals in swimming and track and field.
So? It's result based sports, where athletes compete on fastest time. Nothing is subjective about it, nothing about it gives one country an edge over the over. What's your whining about?

Well you were the one whining about the USA having its medal chances reduced. I was just pointing out theres plenty of stuff there to suit you guys.

And just because somethings objective doesnt mean its valid. We should lobby for a crap ton more cycling and rowing.

Yeah, it's pretty stupid, basically the Olympics now is all about limiting the US gold medals intake and introducing as many stupid "sports" as possible.

Things that need to be changed with the Olympic.

Shooting: here's a gun, now shoot at the target. None of that fancy aids shits on the gun or the shooter.

Archery: here's a bow and arrows, now shoot at the target. None of that fancy aids shits on the bow or the shooter.

Get rid of subjective scoring events, because it's... well, subjective. Fucking biased judges will give the event away, which is entirely bullshits. Result based events ONLY.

Get rid of stupid backyard past time "sports", to call these "sports" is insult to the real athletes that are devoting their life and blood into competing.

Now, let's play.

Yeah it's a conspiracy

It was great they got rid of Baseball. However they didn't go far enough and should have ditched soccer as well. In fact, pretty much all team sports should be ditched.

Oh wait, China and Canada can also compete for gold in handball. Seriously, did people just go to a playground and pick up these "sports" to be in the Olympics?

Tetherball next!

I swear I remember watching teatherball in the Olympics when I was a kid. I think it was in as a demonstration sport or whatever they call the "unofficial" events. Of course my childhood was a long time ago so I am probably wrong.

My Nbc station is currently having a self described technical difficulty where there's a black bar running horizontally across the screen, and what should be the bottom half of the screen is on top and what should be on top is the bottom half of the screen.

Would almost be neat if they show two different events that way

Bolt is still the best.

Asafa Powell pulled up at the end and finished just shy of 12 seconds--he just can't seem to get a break when it comes to the Olympics.

This isn't a "technical difficulty"... it's what you call the "Australia Format".

Pisses me off that they have all these totally lame ass sports but got rid of baseball and softball because the US keeps kicking everyone's ass
Well, US did dominate softball, but Cuba was the dominant baseball team. I think it had more to do with them not giving a shit about baseball and whining that they couldn't get players from the major leagues. I bet it will be back eventually though because I think they were trying to force MLB into letting their players compete. I mean, they let golf and rugby back in to replace baseball and softball. Rugby could be interesting...but golf?

WHY in the HELL can't NBC provide an accurate TV schedule on their website? This is ridiculous, it's not like any of this stuff is live, you're editing it and putting it on TV at a set time! I understand a last minute change based on some amazing, unexpected result in some event somewhere. But this is fucking ridiculous. Schedule says track and field, it's actually women's trampoline, women's trampoline is actually men's volleyball, men's volleyball is actually shooting, shooting is actually track and field. What in the fuck? I thought they'd get it right after a few days but it has been over a week. This isn't here or there, either. It's for every event that isn't basketball or soccer.

I've taken to just DVR'ing everything I can on the menus and deleting what I don't want to see. Assholes.

I hate hte olympics. I only get basic cable so I am forced to watch running and swimming. And 90% of the time they show backstories that I give two shits about.

Why not show me soemthing interesting like badmitton or table tennis. This sucks.

get on your computer and stream from bbc?

Bolt ... pshhhh ... I still say Carl Lewis was a better athlete based on his longevity. He won gold in the long jump at four Olympic games, finishing up at the age of 35.

'84 Olympics - won the long jump, the 100 meters, the 200 meters and anchored the U.S. team in the 4x100 meter relay.

There, that's sure to incite some Bolt fans to riot !

Usain Bolt is a freak of nature, in a good way.

There was some article I read years ago where I think he was this unique combination of fast twitch fibers and more powerful, higher endurance fibers that you would more expect from someone of his stature (I think it said something like that).

Don't think this was the article, but it popped up when googling for Usain Bolt fast fiber:
""Bolt is an outlier. He’s enormous," Weyand said. "Typically when you get someone that big, they can’t start."

That’s because muscle speed in animals is generally tied to their size. For example, rodents, being much smaller than elephants, can move their muscles much faster. The same holds true for human beings. Sprinters are short and have more fast-twitch muscle fibers, allowing them to accelerate quickly, but compromising their ability to run longer distances. Four hundred-meter runners, almost always taller, have the reverse composition of muscle fibers.

Bolt, though, combines the mechanical advantages of taller men’s bodies with the fast-twitch fibers of smaller men."

edit: BTW, Usain Bolt semi-heat (replay) is about to start on NBC's main feed on tv right now.
