This intrigued me, so I went and looked it up. Here is a gif of it, pretty shocking...

Clearly that American player tried to trip the Canadian lady and umm..draw a penalty. Or maybe her head looked like a soccer ball I mean what was it doing on the ground anyway?

There are many possible explanations

FIFA is contemplating disciplinary action against Sinclair & Tancredi for comments they made questioning the role of the American referee in the result of the soccer game yesterday. Tancredi said the referee should proudly wear her American jersey for that's who she 'played' for yesterday. Sinclair was more diplomatic but questioned the attribution of a 6-second penalty with no warning. Hope our two best players are not disqualified from playing in the bronze game...

Get your facts straight.

The referee, as reported by every news outlet, is Norwegian (Christiana Pedersen).

BTW, these Canadian women should act with class and grace, especially considering the amount of potential fouls the Canadians imposed that weren't called during the game.

In soccer, several games ALWAYS have shit that goes down that ain't called.

In soccer ------> It is what it is.

And if you've seen interviews among world soccer pros on this theme/topic, they say that's the "beauty" of it all...the imperfections that cause discussion and love and interest for the game. And they wouldn't change it....warts and all.

Those Canadian ladies, as elite athletes, should know better and STFU and stop the sour grapes routine. USA ladies team have had shit happen to them in the past, but they've always acted with public grace and moved on.

Sucks for everyone and now it's becoming a bigger disaster. They should never allow a ref from one of the playing countries just to avoid any chance of that being a point of contention.

That happens to the best divers sometimes. You just hit a little off mark when you leave the board and your legs don't flex the same way. Your height is changed and/or you move too much forward in the air and that screws your whole timing.

Guess the myth that she is American got me. Thank you for providing an accurate source.

BTW, your post didn't show until after I made mine which caused the confusion.

an international event officiated by 1 of the 2 participating nations? puh-lease.

there is this thing called "the world" and most of it is not your country. a strange and new concept, i'm sure.

is that really 'glorious' to you to watch someone make a horrendous mistake like this, especially at the olympics?

No, actually I feel quite bad for the guy and any athlete that messes up during the Olympics but we all know it is a fluke otherwise they wouldn't be there to start with. But I can also get a good laugh at things once the I feel bad moment passes. We've all done it in some way, you screw something up really bad and later on laugh at it looking back.

Hey Canyucks, the soccer game really was USA vs. USA, and the better USA team won. Deal with it.
