Hey don't laugh, look at this guys gun and he killed almost 80 people so they kicked him off the Olympic team.

'They' also have a lot of research saying you're right, too. There is no expert consensus on Pistorius. His participation is a marketing gimmick IMO. Whether those blades give him a biomechanical advantage is almost moot considering they give him a remarkable physiological advantage. That said, he's an admirable person for persevering and accomplishing what he has given his disability.

Here's what I don't get: why does everyone keep referring to population size as if it matters.

Olympic victories are first and foremost about money. It doesn't matter how many people you have if you can't afford to train them. Conversely it doesn't matter how few people you have if you have enough money; you not only have a great training system, but you can afford to woo athletes from other countries over to your country.

A country has the best Olympic team that it can afford, regardless of their population size.

I agree, money money money. I was just talking crap to get under SSSnails skin, lol. I'm not sure if this is true, but i heard on a news program that America's Athletes get no government money at all, they are all sponsored by corporations. That's pretty impressive if true. In Canada the athletes are always complaining about being underfunded and the good ones are usually imports from Jamaica, not even real Canadians.

Also, you have to qualify to be in the Olympics, I believe you have to be Top 50 in the world, at least in ski jumping it is. If you can't compete on the world stage for 4 years you don't even get the chance to go to the Olympics and there's not much money in most of these sports. I think it used to be every country could send an athlete so you'd get The Jamaican Bombsled team, LOL. but then Eddie the Eagle, a ski jumper from England change the rules. Even though everybody loved him he could only jump like 20 feet in a sport where you should be doing 120 metres... and he looked like Bubbles from Trailer park boys.

I'm actually not too sure about all of this can someone clarify?
