The long pondered Question, AIT or NVIDIA ?....

Im wondering which manufacturer i should go with. i have one major reason right now for why i am kinda leaning toward Nvidia because of the heatissues, im in a fairly small room and i have no windows. SO my room gets fairly hot quickly.

my only recommendation is to look at ATi over AIT, whoever that is.

Well, since I've never heard of the company AIT, I'd suggest you go with Nvidia
No, but seriously.

Each company offers different things. Some might mandate you to get one brand over the other. Such an example is if you were using linux. Nvidia has better linux support. Or, if you want to be able to run HDR and AA at the same time, you might want ATI. Performance wise, most competing models are just that: competing. So, it's not as if there is a definite winner here.

My suggestion is to look at the games you play, look at the features you want, then look at the price.

really though, the IQ differences vary per game. Some look better with NVidia (obviously after you get rid of any texture shimmering, which is doable but does require you setting a couple options where as ATI looks fine out of the box).

Umm ya about that "AIT" thing it was because i am in school typeing this and didnt want to get caught by the teach. Soo any who I am mostly going to be playing FPS's such as Counter strike, Source, halfLife, HL:2, for the most part it will be any Steam run game.

I will also be palying BF2, maby fome fear and some other games like that. i would like to be able to run theese games on max settings or atleast high settings so i am looking into either a X1900XT or a 7900GT becasue i dont have the money for anything more.

An X1900XT walks all over a 7900GT without sweating, so if it's out of those two because of price then you have your answer.

ATI x1900xt. Either the 256mb version for $240 or the 512 mb version for ~$300.

It was very hard for me to go with ATI because I heard such horror stories in the old days about their drivers. But I did alot of reading and research and for the money spent it was the best option I found. I only had it for a day, but so far it seems good. CSS and DAoC loaded fine, and as long as those two work smooth, I'm a happy camper. Except in CSS, cause camping is ghey.

Get 7900GT if you think you will have heat issue , stick on a 3rd party cooler if you want it to be quiet.

I've always bought nvidia, becuase they usually are better in terms of price and specs when I'm looking. I've bought ATI for other people and they haven't had any problems. I say go with whatever works best for ya.

Last I checked, X1900s can take third-party coolers too.

Are you worried about your room being too hot for the card or your card heating up your room?

An X1900XT runs ~5-10C hotter than a 7900GT at stock clocks. That's not a huge difference. The X1900XT dissipates 50-60W more than the 7900GT depending on the model of 7900GT. That's like a 60W bulb being turned on at the back of your computer as far as heat dissipation.

Performance wise the X1900XT is the better card.

well it totally depends on what segment of the market you want to buy a card in.


i figure performance wise, nvidia wins all the way up to the 7900gs/7900gt range. then maybe you'd be better of getting a x1900xtx (like th e$240 256mb one at newegg).

below $200 i think its basically nvidia all the way. i'd get nvidia just becuase they seem to be more on the ball linux / driver wise . but i havent had to buy a high end card in forever. the power dissipation thing is a big deal too. a 7900gt uses maybe 50 watts at load. the x1900xt i mentioned uses 120 or so. so if you have a not so fantastic power supply i guess that could tilt the table to nvidia.

Agreed. The 7600GT is looking like a strong contender at the $125 price point. At the $230-240 price range, I'd say the 256MB X1900XT is the best deal. At the $300 price point, I'd say the 512MB X1900XT. At the $500 price point the 7950GX2 is the best performer.

I've had almost equal numbers of both and definitely noticed better image quality with ATI. I've got 7800gtx 512mb and while it looks good I'm pretty sure an x1900xt or xtx would look better.

First of all, for the games you're going to be playing, find a price point of around $200~$300 and flip a coin because both companies produce a good amount of cards within that price sector that can handle your said games and give some support with later ones.

As far as the companies go, I don't mind either of them but have my preferences depending on what each of them are doing. Last year I prefered Nvidia over ATI. This year I prefer ATI over Nvidia. One graphic company underdog that I think will reign the market in years to come is S3 though

Yes. Its still a good game, even though Mythic tries their hardest to kill it with each xpac and patch. But that is getting waaaaaay OT lol.
