while that episode was slow after the first 10 mins, it was kinda ok with seeing some daily life on coruscant

also, i wonder if that elia is mind wiping dr. pershing for good reasons, or evil reasons

also, sounds like somebody's got a case of the taungsdays

Yeah, I'm really curious about what his long-term role is. Obviously he's not totally zapped because he has such a large role in the series & unfinished work to do!

Elia eating the biscuit after KFC'ing his brain was downright savage tho.

They are not gonna grow big during the course of THIS season, are they?
Its difficult to be sure. One of the nice things about Star Wars is you can usually tell where they are headed, because honestly the writing isnt terribly advanced. It is kinda predictable, which is why some critics say its for children. Nevermind the charred bodies and planetary destruction early in the first movie.
But now its gone batshit and the reason I can't predict anything is the writers just seem to be throwing random ideas at the franchise with little thought as to the Big Picture. I do not know why this is happening. I am betting The Drinker and Mike Stoklasa have ideas but might not analyze till later on this year.

Star Wars is DEFINITELY aimed at children...going back to the first movie. The whole "baby yoda" story line is very much aimed at teh kiddies...and product sales. ( just like the entire franchise)
kids dont care about babies, adults are the ones that go squee over cute things like baby yoda(living embodiment of a funko pop). adults are the ones with money. cashing in on childhood memories of adults takes the profit margin up an order of magnitude. legos is making bank on this.
much like pixar, disney is capitalizing on content that can be watched by the whole family. kid friendly stories with just enough grownup humor/action to keep it from being boring to both.

S3E3 pershing story is a textbook film noir. dangerous lady, down-on-luck protagonist brought down by tragic character flaw, unhappy ending.

it was quite the pacing whiplash to switch over from the bokatan dindjarin plot to mundane corruscant, but technically it is still a well written noir in space story. if you ripped it out of the mandolorian series and made a one-shot standalone special like Werewolf by Night, most likely no one would watch it or care about it. sticking it in mando lets the writer and director show their chops, and helps fill out the season.

S3E4
was anyone bothered by how incompetent the mandalorians seem when they cant prevent a flying lizard from repeatedly snatching people. maybe move to a different more secure location for training, or set up sentry towers with radars and giant honking ass lasers and missiles to kill the thing before it gets close.

Then there wouldn't be tension.
Also the writing has gone to shit. Would not surprise me if they are planning to end it this season and start some other bullshit, like 5 more series.

The writers have said there is no "ending plan" for the Mandalorian, which filled me with a kind of deep hopeless dread.

Like there is no destination they are shooting for (Baby Yoda becomes a Jedi Mandalor with Beskar Armor and Darksaber).

I have to assume that was a major *wink* to the fans since there is no way favreu et al aren't aware of the reputation the ST has for the same reason.

The Mandalorians have dragons to ride now!

Watched S3E4 last night. The whole "let's capture these cute baby dragons and take them back to the base for training!"was kind of fckn retar...stupid...and doing their training on the same "beach" where the giant crocogator came out of the water and fcked them up in S3E1 seemed stupid too.
Next...when the <wtf ever she's called> head blacksmith is working at the forge and furnace...why is the fire source so far away from her "workbench/anvil?" Good sense would have had both of them MUCH closer together so the heated item didn't loose so much heat between point A and point B.

-My son made the observation that the Crocogator could have been a regular sized lizard and maybe everyone in SW is actually tiny and toy sized.

I'm like I guess maybe, yeah?

Would basically explain SW top to bottom, the whole universe is just the imagination of of a kid playing with his cool space toys.

Nice of the dragon to wait 2 days not eating the kid. This season feels pretty aimless and inconsequential. It feels more like a Saturday morning cartoon with the plot and writing at this point. I really hope they aren't trying to tie the storyline into the sequel trilogy You can't write a show around a character who can hardly move, emote, or even speak. Looking cute only gets you so far, but I guess Grogu does sell toys.

yeah the timeline was very much a hand wave moment. 2 days in the belly of the thing seems like a stretch. the more i think about it, the lazier the writing becomes.

they must have ships to avoid being stranded on the planet, so simply flying at higher altitude and using radar to track the dragon is standard operating procedure meaning they should have found the nest easily after the first or second snatching. once you located it, you simply fly high altitude and let the ones with jetpacks jump and freefall to avoid making noise to alert the dragon. they use the jetpack to slowdown at the last moment and land on the nest, snatch the kid and jump off, ezpz. climbing with cables and making a fire at the campsite is just unnecessary, other than to build more 'lore'.

It's star wars logic and ships have a hard time tracking even normal ships we have seen in some of the shows like rebels much less biological creatures that were flying in canyons like we saw it doing.

Remember, the reality of this product that it's a:

1. Kid's show designed to sell toys

2. That's also targeted towards Star Wars Nerd adults, who will love it regardless of quality or content

Imagine if they took Boba Fett & put the same level of quality writing into it that they did with Breaking Bad...complex, compelling storylines, strong characters that you either love or hate who actually change over time, etc. But then, as a Disney brand, that would have cut off the very lucrative child demographic for toys, games, and merchandising. Hasbro saw a 70% increase in Star Wars sales a couple years ago thanks to Baby Yoda:

So you just kind of have to roll with it as-is. I think it would have been awesome to make the Mandalorian as good as the old spaghetti westerns, with serious plotlines, tight writing, etc., but it's pretty watered-down to appeal to both kids & to the international market, so it's kind of a missed opportunity to make something of some serious writing quality, but ultimately, it's just a business decision! Still, I think they do a pretty fun job on it because I AM a Star Wars nerd, so I enjoy watching it!

-Honestly I wouldn't mind some breather episodes of Din just completing Witcher Contra... I mean bounties.

I miss the old X-files Monster of the Week style episodes that are just nice pallete cleansers that don't tie in too deeply to the overarching plot but expand the universe non-the-less.

Yeah I would enjoy Mando going after random bounties, encountering difficulties, and growing as a character over time. You could weave in a mythology arc slowly as well if they wanted. Right now he is just kinda there.

And as a follow-up to my previous comment -
if you didn't love/appreciate the actor that played Jar Jar now playing a badass, 2 saber wielding Jedi that saved Grogu's life, then you can fuck right off.

Alternating aliens vs. monsters would be the ideal thing here, because then you'd get a fresh new episode & then move the story forward overall.

didnt season1 of mando have him using ir thermal vision thru walls? modern day military IRST and FLIR can track and range air and ground targets including people.

i understand that fans love the world and lore, but having to lampshade or retcon basic science stuff because some writer was too lazy to talk to an expert in science, physics or engineering doesnt excuse contradictory story plots/actions. the mental gymnastics and contortions fans go through to excuse an obvious mistake/contradiction/plothole is just rewarding lazy writing. you are allowed to expect more from a mega billion corporation dumping money for content to fill its library of ip.

certainly filoni and favreau are massively better than jj abrams "what's in the shiny box" plotting, but some of this stuff really needs a second pass for basic logic.
