You are a funny guy.

Seriously though Blade Venom is correct in that it is Iron Maiden, always has been really since the 80's with the exception of the mid to late 90's where Metallica were really big and Maiden were going through a lull with the Blaze era. Since Bruce came back though Maiden have been amazing with great live performances and great albums.

Check out Machine Head's Unto the Locust (latest album):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2XKxSMlXZQ&list=ALGLx1orRGw4Usn-H6CEkSGPAOGDkSsoGw

I wish Rob Flynn utilized his voice more than just his usual bone crushing lower register, he's definitely a decent singer (like this Iron Maiden cover http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJrz1yofoKg ) but they'll probably switch up the style for later albums. They're still in their head banging thrash heavy phase like early Metallica was. Will be exciting to see what they can do when he opens the vocal range up although at the same time I enjoy the head banging thrash and hope they don't sell out like Metallica/A7X. Of course Rob is 45 years old so not sure how many years he'll keep going before retiring.

That is the first time I have heard that cover and not knowing the band (yet ) he did a great job and kept it in his vocal range and didn't trash the song by going over his head.... my gosh Bruce is a rock and opera singer all in one.

Reminds me of a once in a lifetime singer aka Ozzy, DIO, ect.

Yeah Flight 666 is my fav live album by IM. Bruce is very good but I have to be in the mood for him. The only reason why I don't think IM is the modern day Metallica is because they have been around just about as long and are old. We need a new band to take Metallica's torch at least for the next two decades. Really only Avenged Sevenfold has done it so far because they have gone mainstream and if they can come out with a really good album to rival City of Evil (their best so far), then they will be a good bet to take the throne. Easier said than done without The Rev tho, and to be honest A7X doesn't really have true metal roots. If they did, they would be opening for Metallica like a Machine Head, however I can see the flipside in that MH doesn't want to go mainstream and "sell out" although I think they eventually will go the same route as Metallica. In today's modern era, any time you can get mass appeal it can only help and the diehards will still listen to a band's earlier heavy stuff and proclaim "they used to be good during x era".

If you haven't seen Machine Head live, here are some links to check out:

skrillex is the metallica of our generation.

first person to put out hard as fuck music that's not easily understood by most people, yet still somehow mainstream.

No response to this? Srsly?

Ignored because obvious flamebait.

It's actually not. I don't like the dude at all but it seems obvious to me when taking a step back and looking at things objectively.

Sorry guys, putting forth some metal band that'll never reach mainstream success =/= the next metallica.

Being the Metallica of this generation isn't about reaching mainstream success so much as it is about shaping a new genre.

With that said, I actually think Skrillex is a good example. Whatever the heck garbage wub wub must have a stupid screamed phrase before the "drop" music he puts out, is (or at least was) pretty unique as far as I can tell. It has since expanded into it's own genre, copied by many.

Which is why I listed skillrex. Maybe not the first to do dubstep, but the first to truly popularize it and, in your words, shape it.

and actually being fucking successful at it.

It a bad time for rock/metal all together. I blame American Idol for 13 years of this generation watching that crap wishing that they could be next winner. They never give metal a chance.

Then you got shitty shows like Glee that was putting out all kind of lame hits. Also the shitty movies like High School Musical and that lame ass music.

The current generation has grown up on this crap so I have my doubts that we will ever have a band like Metallica again.

I don't really think there will be 'another Metallica.'

The things they did, honestly they did first. Prog thrash metal? They made it work. But more so than most of the bands that followed and tried to emulate them, they were supremely talented. I can't tell you how many times I go back to earlier Metallica and think, "Wow, nobody crafts music like this anymore."

Op, your best bet when be to go back and siff through other bands from the past you may not have listened to before.

You're not going to replace the hetfield vocals from the first 4 (5) Metallica albums. He was just damn good, I'll stay the best.

2 Albums I'll recommend are Slayer: Seasons in the Abyss and Pantera: Vulgar display of Power. On these 2 Albums are a lot of nice guitar riffs and about as close to old school Metallica as you're going to get.

Not so fast. There are few excellent but perhaps less known american bands that brought new life in metal in 90s and 2000s... I'll name a few: Nevermore, Dream Theater, Agalloch. Some of them have only underground success, that makes them not any worse than big names. It is almost impossible to get mass appeal for extreme metal.

I wouldn't really call Dream Theater underground.

Also, haven't heard mention of Testament yet. More required american metal listening.
