Freeman303: Cool and Quiet is not supported, i got 800 Mhz by setting it manually to that speed.

Frostedflakes: I got mine here in holland, so i dont think that would be of much help to you

Got a new PSU (TAGAN TG480-U01) This should give me more stable voltages, going to try and overclock my system further tomorrow.

Hi guys,
I've decided to take the plunge on this DTR/Mobile setup. I've read through most of this topic and was wondering if there is any new info on these boards:
1) ASRock K8S8X - Also, where can you buy this? I can't find it anywhere.
2) Chaintech VNF3-250 Zenith Value Edition- do you still have to flash with a desktop cpu? Has the problem with 2 sticks of Ram been fixed?
3) Soltek SL-K8AN2E-GR - Has the 1.55V max been fixed?
EDIT: Has anyone tried the Asus with the sis chipset?
I am going to over-clock (why else get one of these CPUs), and from what I have read the Soltek is best if you DON'T want to OC.

Thanks,

For those who got stuck buying the MSI K8T Neo via ktk800 chipset, I had my bios flashed to 2.20 build and when I stuck my DTR 3000 CG core, it booted up in first try. No CMOS clean up etc. Voltage was set initially at 1.0x volts. I upped it to 1.5v and next reboot mobo detected the cpu correctly. K8T is not an overclocking mobo as it has no APG lock. I have no idea why I bought it, now I am stuck with it. For Heatsink, I had a laptop heatsink lying around which is obviously fully copper. I detached it from the heatpipe mechanism with a screw and got a nice flat 1.5 x 1.5 inch copper plate. Had to straiten it little bit, and then used it on top of the processor with the stock AMD HSF that I had lying around from a desktop A64. Temps are on the high side, with idle at 40C and load at 57C. I am guessing once the artic silver settles down a bit, the temps will stabilize. I wanted to take pictures of my modification, but left my digicam at my friends place. Once I get a chance I will post pictures of the simple mod. Thanks guys for your inputs so far.

Has anyone tried a Newark 3700+ in an Epox 8KDA3J or 8KDA3+? Is the process for getting a DTR to run in the Epox still this convoluted?

"Epox 8KDA3+ [AGP/PCI Lock, VCore via vmod, VDimm, LDT; Tested with Athlon 64 DTR 1.5v] - will NOT boot with shipping BIOS. What that means is that you have to get *another* DESKTOP CPU and flash to the new 9/13/04 BIOS. Then, with the desktop CPU still in the mobo you need to enter the BIOS and set the multiplier to 4x. At that point switch out the desktop CPU with the DTR and boot up. The system will boot up to 800mhz at 1.1v. From there enter the BIOS and adjust voltage to 1.55v and then adjust FID according to your CPU's default speed and you should be set. "

Read the above article. There is no "1:1". RAM speed on AMD64 architecture DIVIDES DOWN FROM CPU CORE SPEED.

Apart from that, using mobile processors is rather pointless since a plain normal desktop 3500+ "Venice" hardly ever consumes more than 30W.

I bought a 3200+ clawhammer for notebooks from newegg, and a K8N-E Deluxe.

It did not even post.

I don't really know any detailed things about hardware, just how to put it together and such, but i guess i should of asked here if it worked before i bought it.

i actually didnt notice it was for notebooks until after i ordered it, i was in a hurry i guess.

so the point of this post is, that it doesnt work in k8n-e deluxe motherboard.

i have a question though, in one of the reviews at newegg for this cpu i found this person saying

"Smooth sailing on a Asus K8N-E Deluxe."

THATS MY BOARD?!?! am i missing something? is there something extra that lets it post that im not doing, i know its not fried i put another cpu in it and it posted.

bump please, iv'e been waiting a long time to get my new system together, i'm upgrading from a comp i built in 1997, and iv'e put all my extra money from the last 5 months of my paychecks into this thing, id just love to have it post without having to ebay off my 3200 clawhammer (rma time expired cuz i RMA my mobo thinking it fried cuz asus told me it did on tech support, so while waiting for my new mobo the cpu rma time expired) then wait a few more paychecks just to get a 3200 newcastle for desktops.

I'd say another heatsink works out of the box without modification and that's the Asetek Vapochill Micro Low Noise when you use the DFI installation method as here:

http://www.asetek.com/default.asp?showP...value=1,414&contentSection=1&menuID=-1

Thought I'd add in an extra option for greater flexibility. It's a damn nice heatsink too IMO - got my brother's 2.6ghz S939 Venice @1.5V at 43C load. That's in normal room temps with a P180 case.

Hi just thought I'd let you guys know about my success with building up the following:
Athlon64 DTR 3200+(clawhammer CG rev)
MSI k8mm ilsr
Antec Aria Case(inc Antec 300wPSU)
Maxtor 80GB Sata
Elixir 512MB
Zalman CNPS7000 heatsink(fits perfectly with no mods)
Booted first time but CPU was locked down to 4xMultiplier(800MHz),so after installing WinXP and doing a few Googles came across this utilityRMClock.
I now have the CPU running at correct clock speed, and verified it with CPU-Z,CPuid & Everest Home Edit.
I have the CPU underclocked most of the time to keep the heat down due to SFF case, but with RMClock,I can set it to full speed on demand or anywhere inbetween, and so far(touchwood) it is problem free.

Has anyone had any luck, good or bad, with the DFI nF4X Infinity Socket 754 NVIDIA nForce4 mobo and the 3700+ DTR?
