oralpain: You have the 2800+ 35W 1.2V mobile, correct? Is it 1.6GHz 1MB cache or 1.8GHz 512K? AMD says the former, Newegg said the latter but then changed its mind and back a few times, and I recall you mentioning a 9x multiplier, so I am now thoroughly confused.

Fedex guys here. Stay tuned in about 10 minutes for an answer to the big question. Looking on MSI site last night. It's either going to work or not today. There are not different bios's cept for the one it came with for right now.

Ok i reset the bios, took the battery out for a minute.k So as to represent someone just buying this board and chip and taking a change. Jumped the start pins and was rewarded with this!!!!

THe factory heatsink wont work on this chip, and i've got to find the backplate and parts to my 948U heatsink that will fit. So of course i just set a heatsink on top because i had to know. My AMD64 Vapo head is here also.

And yes it works. Here's my thread @ XR.com. it booted fine and recognized as a 3000 Mobile. Even if the chip sucks and wont overclock. Which i havnt tested yet. I always find a magic chip.

Bar81, you may add this board to the top of your list

All you have to do is take the model# newegg provides E.G. AMD2800BQX4AX for the OEM and reference it with the AMD tech docs and you find B=lidless Q=1.2v X=die temp of 95c 4=512kb cache AX=CG revision B2

Thanks tedinde,
I will buy K8N Neo then instead of VNF3 to go with my mobile - hope it will work with 2x512 OCZ memory at 1:1
The only possible problem I see is that your mobile is AP i.e it is C0 revision not CG like most mobiles.
Does it matter?

tedinde,
Another question - what is max CPU voltage with the mobile CPU ?
(anantech review said something about max voltage being depended on default CPU voltage)

MSI K8N Neo Platinum on order. Mobile 3200+ will be on order as soon as I get confirmation on shipping of Mobo. Why? Because it appears newegg allows only 7 days from the day they ship to rma processor. Obviously I want to give myself as much time as possible. Of course if someone knows a better place... I'm all ears. Seven days kinda sucks.
Anyway, looking for RAM recommendations for that combo. I have no suitable ram. I have a couple of sticks of pc2700 but they are going to backup system. So, recommend ram for me please.
Before I forget... many thanks to Bar81 and tedinde for pointing the way.

Got it in the vapo and it's booting @ stock now. The mobile chip. Had some start problems with the vapo, The power button wasnt doing crap, But now that i "jumped" it once. It works. Some numbers and if this mobile is worth a dam in a few minutes.

If you wanna follow my progress. I'll be mosting here mostly My "home" forum

http://www.truextreme.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32300&page=1&pp=25

and overclockers.

I love posting pics and to hard to handle to many threads, it's easier if i pick one place.

But it's safe to order the board and the mobile chip. Add it to the list like i said.

Also upon booting. It shows 3000+ mobile in the bios. But defaults to 4x and a real low volts of .91volts when booting to windows.

You can change the multiplier back up the the stock 9x of the chip. but you must remember to up the volts or your not going anywhwere. Clockgen also works in windows no problems

For screenies check the above.

The cpu is in my vapo. In having some problems with the voltage settings sticking in the bios. no matter what it stays @ .91, but clock gen will let me put the volts to it in windows. Im going to turn cool and quiet on and see what it does if anything for voltage staying.

But i'll have some default 1.4v screenies and multis in a few minutes. Plus im still having startup problems in the vapo. But that's not the board or the chips problem, even though Asetek support will always say the same. "Motherboard is incompatable"

But isnt it easier for vapo to work to make it compatable than for the MB companies to comply to the .002% of the computer users using vapos!!!

After seeing the stepping in your cpu pic I kinda just had the same question as the other guy above.
Any concerns that it's an AP (CO) core?

The image pic on NewEgg and the model# text there both say AR. (I know because I was ever so close to buying one on 6/6)

I read the (newegg) review the guy who bought a DTR 3400 left and it seems he had the same thing happen to him (but I think that his was only a text goof).

It is too bad it BIOS doesn't remember voltage.
As to CPUID - it works just fine with my mobile on VNF3 - shows everything correctly.

I had to go take care of a cusomters computer im back for an all nighter. Somehow it's holding the volts in the bios now?? And with no bios update, There is none available. CPUZ wasnt recognizing the chip speed right if you notice in my screenies in the above links. but i installed Gcpuid now both work.

I'll answer a few questions in here. But i dont want to Jack this thread anymore. Im sure most of you are registered in any of the two forums im posting in. So ask away there.

Now for some overclocking on the board with the mobile. The links are above for my results.

tedinde, Your risk is much appreciated. Now we can all rest easy.

And since you have the motherboard out of the case I would like to ask you a favor.. see if MSI has corrected thier serious class actionable capacitor issues. Please look a all the caps for the Rubycon or Chemi-con name, these are the good japanese capacitors ABIT and others are now said to be using... wondering if MSI is too as of late. Thanks

It is DEFINATLY 1.8Ghz/512KB L2. Die is smaller, default/max multiplier is x9. Look up the part number, its AMD2800QX4AX. The 4 means 512K L2 I belive.

The 1.6GHz/1MB L2 is a 1.4v/62watt part.

Can someone remind me if the Chaintech VNF3-250 has been tested with the 1.4v mobiles?

I have a MSI K8N Neo Platinum + AMD Mobile Athlon 64 3200+ 'CG' and cannot get the voltage to work properyl except for manually setting it in clockgen. When you restart after you use clockgen it shows 1.55 (for 1.60) in bios but if you save it will revert to .97. I've tried both the shipping 1.1 and the 1.1b3 bios's. So far its not really looking good. Best I can get with setting the FSB in the bios and using clockgen to set the multi is 2300. I can't get past 1.45vcore in clockgen however, says its limited at 1.45.

Well, they did say it only supports DTR CPUs. The DTRs and mobile CPUs have different microcode. I'm seeing the same thing with my ASRock. I just got a 3200+ 1.4v mobile today and while the ASRock recognizes the proper CPU speed (10x 200) I can no longer change multiplier or voltage manually like I could with the DTR. However, setting the options to auto provides proper CPU multiplier and voltage. I'm trying to get ASRock to update the microcode and see if that changes things.

As a result of all this, I've put in a small paragraph outlining this issue in my original post as well as indicating what CPU each motherboard has been tested with as it no longer seems that all mobiles are equivalent such that support for one equals support for all.

I have mobile 1.4v and VNF3-250 - works with voltage up to 1.7v no problem ( I got to 2.55 on that)
