I have been playing with it for hours It changes how I use my HTPC in so many ways. It makes my Logitech remote seem old and crusty

My only complaint about software remotes are that you can't operate them by touch. You have to turn them on, unlock them, and look at the buttons. My favorite remote ever is my Tivo remote - it has funky-shaped buttons and a rounded remote that make it really easy to figure out what you're pressing in the dark. I wish they made a Tivo-Harmony remote with programmable macro buttons

exactly. the tactile feedback (fancy term for "feel") is critical and you get zero with a touchscreen.

With gesture controls it only took me about an hour to get to where I could control my XBMC without ever looking at the screen. Touch screen + gestures is the easiest method to control my HTPC . I really don't even like using a good ole' remotes with buttons any more.

I swipe up/down for volume. left/right for rewind/fast forward while in a movie/music. In the menu my swipe moves my cursor. It's so intuitive it becomes 2nd nature, with a regular remote I still have to look down from time to time. touch screen + gesture works so well because it doesn't matter where I swipe/touch on the screen, it works the same anywhere on it.

This app looks like one of the many XBMC clones you see in the app store (I actually use one myself). It's definitely better using software when most if not all people have smartphones nowadays.

Do you still have to hit the home button and slide to unlock first? I've seen some jailbroken apps that let you operate them with the screen off & locked.

For the one I used, which wasn't the one OP posted about. It worked while locked. Not sure about this one exactly, I was just commenting on the general awesomeness of using a touch screen phone as a HTPC remote.

Bought the pro version last night. It won't replace my harmony but should be a cheap replacement for my wireless keyboard that just died. Definitely not a good idea to be passing your iphone or ipad around when guests are over and they want to watch youtube through the htpc.

What was that app called if you don't mind me asking?

I saw this awhile ago but was kind of weary about how good it would be. However, nothing can be worse than using the Apple Remote with a hacked ATV2 and XBMC .

I don't mind the Apple remote with Plex on the ATV2 (because it does the triple-skip plus the chopped-line skip), but yeah, XBMC could use a little work. That dang menu button always feel stuck lol.

The biggest problem I have is when I want to turn off subtitles... it's pretty much impossible on the ATV2+XBMC setup. I have to use the mouse capability of my Gyration MC remote to do it on my HTPC. I've never figured out how to get XBMC to intercept the media center remote buttons as pressing any of them actually brings up WMC7.
