for society, religion
religion is not dangerous unless you are speaking of religious fanatics of which most people who are religious do not fall into that category.
the religion bashing in this forum has reached the pitiful stage.

Ohh man, I can't imagine what life would be like if they tried to take coffee away from me ...
In my last post, I was refering to your "gateway drug" bit .... it was glorious!
Being involved in the recovery community, I have heard so many stories about addiction and the harm it has done. The common theme is that people had problems elsewhere in their lives and chose to compensate by using/doing X. It doesn't matter what X is. It matter what people will do to get it.
And I don't know why the gateway thing popped into my head. Its been at least 15 years since I have heard that phrase. They talk about it all the time in DARE, never mention it in substance abuse treatment.

The gateway thing must have popped into your head because you were tripping (due to a gateway drug that forced you to try a mushroom cause you were high and thought it would give you fireballs or an extra life) and you were seeing "McGruff the crime dog" in a vision!
As far as being involved in the recovery community, man, that has to be some really tough work. I'm sure in some cases it can be gratifying, but It would be really depressing 90% of the time I'd think. Kudos for trying to make the world a better place ...

Religion by a mile.

I'm in the medical field. The worst thing out of all the drugs on that list for you is probably cocaine. Cocaine causes constriction of blood vessels in the head, and thus, strokes. This tends to make people uninhibited. Taking cocaine is like getting lobotomized, bit by bit at a time.
The other drugs on that list (except perhaps meth, which has a similar mechanism to cocaine) don't really have the same long term effects. What amuses me is that I interview a lot of crackheads who admit to taking cocaine, but when I ask them about heroin, they look at me like I'm crazy. "No way man, I don't touch stuff like that!" Heroin is incredibly addictive, lethal in overdose, and has a very risky mechanism of administration. But the long term impacts of taking heroin (especially to your brain) aren't as bad as cocaine.

Heroin kills the person and hurts the people around. Religion has killed hundreds of thousands.
Classifying them in the same manner is pretty stupid, but I can see how you'd get that.

You might want to recheck your math. The crusades alone accounted for roughly 9 MILLION.
